Hi all,
this is my first post on this forum..
i am thinking of purchasing some 17" rims however
i need all season tires living in NYC, and i think 18"s are out of the question.
I was wondering what is the best application for 17's?
can you get 205/45? i want the higher sidewall and think that 40 will be too low.
If not i think i might just have to stick to stock 15's

or for that matter 205/45 for 16's..i know that 205/45 will fit for the 16's since that's the tire package offered by TRD 16"

im running 215/40/17 on a 7.5" x 17" wheel with 40mm offset and i love it.

That'll be the next size I buy.

215/45/17 42 offset, stock springs = no rubbing. Looks great.

I'd get the lowest offset you can find to push the tire more flush with the wheel well.

i went to the dealer lot today, and they had a demo with that size...

so for you guys with this size...you have no rubbing issues right? :)
i don't plan on lowering the car.

Just remember that you are going just a little faster than you're speedometer says and you are showing less miles than you actually traveled. Nothing to stress over.

hey showing less miles is good..
besides it's very neglible i believe.

im running 215-40-17 with a 35 off set. And I have no rubbing at all. And not too much difference in the ride either. One thing I do notice is that they grab the road alot more and deffinatly sticks better in the rain. :lol:

i think that 215/45/17 would be better on an 7.5-8 inch rim....

just my personal preference...

now if you are going to lower it, the 205 might be better...

I have 17x7, 36offset. I want to get 215/45/17 but not sure if it will fit or not. If they fit, can I still have a 2" drop? Help guys.....

According to the tire calculator, you will be moving faster then you think running a 215/45R17 tire. Your spedo will read 60, and your doing 62+. Closest thing to stock is 215/40R17, almost dead on.

i used to have 205/40/17s but now i ride on 215/45/17. needless to say it is a lot easier to live with fatter tires, the ride is infinitely better

any pics of 215/40/17 or 215/45/17?

i wanna see 17x7 with 215 45 17 tires et 38 too, if someone does have pics 8)

215/40R17 on 17×7.5 ET35 wheels. (excuse the tire grease... didn't get a chance to clean it up before Inazuma showed up with his camera...)
Also, in regards to the earlier post, 205 on an 8" wheel will be stretched over... even 215's on an 8" wheel have a stretched look (last pic is 215/35R18 on 18×8 ET42)

I have always run 215/45/17X7 on all of my cars. No problems with fitment at all at far as width of tire to width of wheel. Most will say a 205 is a better fitment on a 7in wide but I prefer the extra width. I will be mounting a set of ADR SZ1's as soon as they decide to make them available in gunmetal (been on back order for 2 months now). I will post picks as soo as I get them.

can you lower it about 1.5" with no problems? 42 offset...
