View Full Version : i made something for my Xa
phantomxa 02-21-2005, 07:27 AM i just bought a new dremel kit and decided to try and make something for my xa. so i decided to make a prototype wind splitter for my Xa from some a sheet of ABS plastic i had lying around the garage. I used some stainless steel turnbuckes for temporary rod supports until my APR rods i ordered come in. The only thing that sucks is that it isnt carbon fiber. But ill have o wait till i get enough dough. The splitter will look tons better with the APR rod supports.

etarui 02-21-2005, 08:00 AM Looks good! Great job!
chipzxb 02-21-2005, 02:26 PM Nicely done!
is it gonna be fully adjustable???
phantomxa 02-21-2005, 09:25 PM yeah it is adjustable. You can determine the angle of the splitter by lengthening the turnbuckle. But the APR rods have a more adjustment characteristics than the turnbuckles.
mikochu 02-21-2005, 09:29 PM dang. Looks good!
DTurnbull 02-21-2005, 11:41 PM The King of DIY! Nice job PhantomXa.

mikochu 02-22-2005, 01:09 AM nice job man !!! btw the lights what did u do to them ? ...........
He intended to "JDM" them by painting the non-functional reflective parts of the headlights black...but I think he forgot to mask the functional reflective area...
phantomxa 02-22-2005, 02:02 AM exactly!....by the way does anyone know where i can get a pair of stock headlights other than from the dealer....i totally messed up the first time and want to just have clear ones instead.
hotbox05 02-22-2005, 10:20 AM How bad is the light ouptup? horrible or just crappy? I love the splitter, not all I need is a large sheet of plastic and a nice riviter.
stellarhavoc 02-22-2005, 03:33 PM looks pretty hot man
DJ_X_Trodinaire 02-23-2005, 02:46 AM looks pretty hot man
phantomxa 02-23-2005, 07:18 AM thanks for the comments...i hate being such a poor college student but it gives me the oppotunity to try new things to my ride. By the way, my headlights only project 30% of the original output..its that crappy.
you know what would really be neat if you can do the adjustments from inside the car :!: :!: :!:
axiom 02-25-2005, 04:58 PM No offense, But I don't like it at all, it looks like a snow plow.
2tone_xB 02-26-2005, 02:44 AM ^^^ :nope: :lalala:
Looks good. Yes, nicely done.
unlmtdndeavor 02-26-2005, 03:06 AM looks real good man. im thinking of making a splitter for my xB out of a old cf hood
XaRS0888 02-28-2005, 06:51 PM pretty sic mod man.......i don't know if that's functional but nice looking indeed.
phantomxa 03-01-2005, 02:09 AM thanks for the comments...i put up new pics that don't make it look like too much of a snow plow.
asirvr4 03-02-2005, 08:24 AM i like it would be nice if it was CF
XaRS0888 03-02-2005, 07:20 PM i like it would be nice if it was CF
a CF sheet that size would cost alot.
Ashe_WCM 03-02-2005, 08:44 PM Just go cheap and buy a CF overlay sheet :)
Rally 03-03-2005, 09:08 PM Looks awesome, where do you get ahold of a sheet of ABS like that? How flexible is ABS?
Great craftsmanship
phantomxa 03-04-2005, 08:26 AM yeah a CF sheet is real expensive. i got the ABS plastic sheet from TAP plastics in Santa Clara, CA. But TAP is a nation wide retail store for all plastics and polymer materials for fabrication. There are dozens of kinds of plastic, vinyl, ABS, etc. The abs is flexible as a sheet but when i bolted it on it the lip became real stiff. ABS is really strong too.. I might consider actually using the carbon fiber look vinyl sheet on the splitter.
Rally 03-04-2005, 12:38 PM Do you think using plexiglass would work? It sounds like its close to ABS
Rally 03-05-2005, 05:54 AM nah, that would definitely work. I mean plexiglass. Its a type of plastic...typically clear, but not always. Its rather stiff but has some give to it
aireck 03-05-2005, 06:06 AM looks sweet and the CF wrap would make it better
J_A_Trevino 03-05-2005, 06:43 AM that xa looks pimp! sometimes i wish i had one.
phantomxa 03-05-2005, 08:02 AM thanks....pexiglass would work but the ABS is cheap . I paid like $30 for a piece 6'X2' that is the minimun size you would need
Rally 03-06-2005, 04:47 AM thanks....pexiglass would work but the ABS is cheap . I paid like $30 for a piece 6'X2' that is the minimun size you would need
Cool, sounds good. I actually have a plexiglass shop right near me that gives me their scraps....so i can get some that size for free
Again, props on a great modification  And dont worry, i wont copy your style....my splitter is going on a non-scion
hotbox05 03-08-2005, 01:44 AM Hey Phantom , I saw your car at expreSCION , and man oh man does your car look great , keep up the good work.

that is so cool... it is easier than trying to do all my fabrication at school.
Looks nice. It's subtle and that's the best kind of mod.
Just watch those parking bump stops!
RobbyxA 04-03-2005, 04:43 PM i wants it! very nice.

dave72 10-11-2005, 09:59 PM How is the splitter attached to the nose?
Duker 12-04-2005, 10:18 PM you guys are talented
Looking for a oem front bumper for a 2006 flint mica if anyone has one

SaintJ 04-27-2006, 09:43 PM Nice look.
noob question though,
what exactly does the air splitter do?
dexter_5000 04-27-2006, 09:54 PM What is a Wind Splitter?
A Wind Splitters is a protruding flat surface in the front of a car that is designed to decrease front end lift and exert downforce. By creating a high pressure area on top of the wind splitter, high pressure air flow is restricted to flow underneath a car. With low pressure below the car, the effect of lift is reduced and a driver can gain from the extra traction and control.
Jessicagmz 05-03-2006, 06:51 PM quite artistic. Looks good.
