Cockpit_XB 02-22-2005, 05:28 PM there should be a tech article on the forum that gives you a how-to on bumper removal, but dont know if has any pictures. fugeelama 02-22-2005, 05:36 PM There's a tC bumper removal FAQ on the Tech section, I'd imagine it's somewhat similar to the xA but i can't be sure. I'll let you know cuz i need to remove my bumper to pound out a fairly large dent (and install my fogs as well). mikochu 02-22-2005, 07:04 PM I haven't taken my bumper off completely, but it's not hard to figure it out. Pop the hood, take out the 4 fasteners for the grill. Place the grill and fasteners somewhere safe. There should be screws/fasteners there holding the bumper. Also, there should be fasteners/screws holding the fender lining to the bumper. I suggest putting towels/blankets on the ground where you're working so you don't scratch anything... 02-22-2005, 07:23 PM The bumper is pretty easy to take out. the only tools you will need is a flathead screwdriver, a phillips head screw driver, and a 10 mm socket wrench. A jack is recommended, but not entirely necessary. Use the flathead screwdriver to pop out the plastic fasteners on the grill. There should be four of them, then pull out the grill gently. The bottom prongs should come out easily. On the bottom, there are 8 screws, though I'm not sure if you had to take them all off (I just did it since I wasn't really sure) There are also two screws that you have to use your socket wrench to get off. You'll have to pop out the a part of the wheel well to access another screw near the turn light. After that just gently pull out the bumper from one side. Disconnect the wire for the turn signals and your done :D One thing about the Optilux install, it wasn't as easy as I thought. The brackets that came with it does not fit in the hole so you will have to make your own bracket for one side and drill a hole in to mount the other. Installing the rest was pretty easy. Cutting the tab to fit the switch took a bit of time. I don't know why they made it so freakin thick! itzjere 02-22-2005, 07:39 PM One thing about the Optilux install, it wasn't as easy as I thought. I'm trying to visualize it right now. What did you use to make your own bracket? Installing the rest was pretty easy. Cutting the tab to fit the switch took a bit of time. I don't know why they made it so freakin thick! I agree! What did you use/do to cut through that thick plastic? Thanks for your help! itzjere 02-22-2005, 08:21 PM I found out how to remove the bumper. It was actually part of "How to Clear Corners" FAQ. Here's the link: http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32050 Has pictures too which is good. 02-22-2005, 08:53 PM I used a strip of copper, around 3/4 inch wide, 5 inches long. I drilled two holes on each end and mounted them without cutting the bumper (just drilling) It's pretty pliable but strong enough to mount the foglight securely. For the tab, you'll need a drill and a utility knife. Took a good 15 minutes for a clean job. itzjere 02-22-2005, 09:10 PM I'm kinda confused about how to mount the foglights. I know there are two holes on the side of the light for the mounting brackets that Hella supplies. I'm guessing that the bracket I fabricate will use those two holes on the side? So as a result, I will need two strips of copper/metal? 02-22-2005, 09:50 PM I was lazy so I only mounted one bracket onto one side while the other side I drilled a hole through the bumper and mounted it with a regular screw :P You could use two strips per foglight if you want. |
