View Full Version : Wheel hop annoying
duston831 02-22-2005, 04:08 PM ok, the only thing i dont like about this car is the wheel hop!!!!
Weapon-R Engine Mount Damper Kit
has anyone purchased this yet? and is it worth the oney?
Joe_Dezod 02-22-2005, 05:53 PM some people om the site have purchased it and it did supposedly fix the problem.
Another option is what Scion Speed did... They replaced either one or all (i forgot) of the motor mounts with urethane ones. That's the right way to do it but it's a little bit harder to do.
b_griggs1 02-22-2005, 06:45 PM 225/45/17 BFG g-force t/a solved the problem for me. you cant buy a better tire for the money.
aarontrini85 02-22-2005, 06:55 PM i have no wheel hop when its dry out side. as soon as there is even a drop rain or i drive through a small puddle i get a lot of wheel hop but im good with the oem tires and a dry road i can smoke the tires and not hop around
b_griggs1 02-22-2005, 09:07 PM i see you are running trd springs....i forgot to mention that i upgraded to the trd springs also at the time if tire change....

how many miles you get on that tire... i dont imagine a lot.
well if you drove your nicely, it wouldnt wheel hop.
so what do you do that makes you wheel hop?
asking just in case your or my car is special (something wrong)
aarontrini85 02-22-2005, 10:22 PM all my friends are suprised that there is no wheel hop on my tc since it is front wheel drive and its also the only front wheel drive they have seen with no mods that can smoke the hell out of the tires
i love this car

I haven't noticed the wheel hop being that bad, and I have driven the shiiaaat out of it a few times. I am running the stock tires which spin easily though,. When I switch to something that tries to bite a bit sooner then I imagine the wheel hop will be more evident during those tire melting moments :-)

i have 10k HARD miles with one autox on them. They are at 5/32 from 9/32. They are whisper quiet, extremely predictable and only $120 ea.
nchyflyer 02-23-2005, 02:34 AM i wouldn't think that making the tires smoke is good for the axles...? I mean i know plenty of guys that used to do that on their civics and ended up breaking their axles.

did you just said NO WHEEL HOP on your tC? and its not modded?
you must be driving an automatic.
my tc wheel hops terribly at the dragway sometimes if i dont do it right.
I drive a manual and i can burn out, wheel hop etc. its ridiculous tho this car wasnt made to be sporty.
the only way a Civic SI 05 can beat a tC is if the tc driver drives correctly and that is not to wheel hop or burn out...

slamming gears from first - second
mahalzkita28 02-23-2005, 05:48 PM the Weapon R engine damper will do the trick :) looks good under the hood too
duston831 02-23-2005, 06:10 PM and you know this how?

no my cars a 5 speed, you probly hop at the track becouse you drive throught the "wet spot" where they spray so you can smoke the tires drive around that becosue i get no wheel hop at all unless the tires are wet so thats the only way i can see you getting wheel hop unless my trd coils and swaybar help out with the wheel hop but i doubt they do
mahalzkita28 02-23-2005, 07:56 PM and you know this how?
i know this becuase i have it on my car lol, the car launches better and the shifts feel more solid
duston831 02-23-2005, 10:50 PM kewl, but dont you think the price is a little high?
jlaznlover 02-24-2005, 02:31 PM ok, the only thing i dont like about this car is the wheel hop!!!!
Weapon-R Engine Mount Damper Kit
has anyone purchased this yet? and is it worth the oney?
i would like to get the damper kit. a group buy would be nice. any sponsers willing to start a group buy for us scionlife members? installing the damper kit would be much easier than getting new motor mounts or mount inserts imo.
duston831 02-24-2005, 03:54 PM yes i 2nd the groupbuy
DouBLeJ16 02-24-2005, 04:55 PM i have terrible wheel hop in my tc, i'd love to get some weapon-r engine damper shocks.
aarontrini85 02-24-2005, 05:37 PM i would also like one just becouse they look cool and maybe it will help with the wheel hop when its wet but i think it just the oem tires that cause that
mahalzkita28 02-24-2005, 07:04 PM yes the damper would definately be easier to install then motor mounts. it took me about 15 minutes to install the engine damper. you just unbolt 4 bolts, mount the brackets, and put the damper shock on the brackets and you are done
duston831 02-24-2005, 11:06 PM who would i contact about purchasing one?
aarontrini85 02-24-2005, 11:33 PM i dont know what every one else is paying for it but this comapany has them with free shiping http://www.prostreetonline.com/parts/scion/tc/
DouBLeJ16 02-28-2005, 06:35 AM seems really expensive for such a small part. if it stopped wheel hop completely it would be worth it for me though.
TheKnown 02-28-2005, 07:57 AM i like the wheelhop, reminds me that my car is powerful

you should try driving a 95 honda civic 5-speed with the oem times 170/70/r13. Ha Ha full sized spares.

Smoking tires is alright but when the grip, snap. Harsh engagements causes axles to break. Spinning is alright but when your spinning hard and grap traction all the sudden thats when axles will break.
