Default OBX LSD any good?

I see the OBX LSD for sale at an attractive price. I read it's modeled after the Quaife which is priced similarly to the TRD. I understand the OBX comes with a lifetime warranty, but I've read of some Honda people having trouble with removing axles from it. Anybody know anything about and/or have experience with them and the 2AZ-FE M/T?

I'm just perusing the tC forum to see what I can learn. Appears the TRD is actually a rebadged Quaife -- no big surprise, I guess ! I should probably have searched there before opening this thread -- sorry about that!

One thing I've learned so far is the Quaife/TRD (and also OBX) differential is not actually "limited Slip". As gear differentials (no clutch discs) if there's no resistance at one of the wheels, it will simply spin without any power transfer to the one with traction. An accurate description of them is "Torque Biased", not "Limited Slip".

I'm not looking to race (an application that works fine for "Torque Biased" differentials), but rather I'm thinking in terms of slick conditions (like winter). Though I guess that also goes for autocross as with mud, etc. So, maybe even the TRD isn't an especially good choice for me !

If anyone's looking for a locking clutched true LSD, seems OS Giken makes one. Even less cheap, but here it is:

I believe you! Outside of the TRD, it's all new to me ! Just ran across another possibility -- PhantomGrip:

Here's an interesting thread regarding an OBX, guess it's definitely not an item you simply bolt on !

Well, if anyone's using an OBX LSD on the tC forum, I obviously missed it ! It appears to me the two potential issues (dating back to 2006 and earlier) are build problems (miss-installed bell washers and/or stripped and/or miss-torqued bolts) plus lack of beveled spline ends supposedly resulting in problems removing the half axles. I've no idea if any of this still applies, but haven't found any more recent info.

Can anyone shed any further light on this topic?

Latest reports on OBX LSD seem to have this flavor (2008 ), "if the OBX is a new version/style, taken apart and put back together correctly" with beveled inner splines so the axles will come out properly "you should be good", but I haven't found any Scions with them installed. Just a note: I see that any LSD requires proper shimming when installed.

Found another manufacturer who's price runs around $650, however, they don't have a product for our cars -- MFactory.

Honestly Id say save up for the OS Giken. An LSD you will wont have any problems with and probably wont neeed to service for over 100k miles with mild racing.
