Seeing that we all deal with snow and most of us deal with hellified potholes during the winters (and some still in the summer), I wondered if you all could help me out. :nails:

I'm looking to lower my box 1 - 1 3/4 inches and wondered what spring offered the best everyday & highway ride. Am I asking for too much to get this combination for less than $200?

By the way, once I decide on the springs and purchase them are there any members in the chicagoland area that can help me install them? FYI...I have no automotive capabilities so far, to dateputting in my boomerang armrest is the most technical thing i've done to a car...heheh.

nope i get mad all the time.. somehow as of this moment all the potholes by my house are covered..but there is still the sorounding cities with uncovered pot holes.

I dropped my Xa with the TRD package shortly after I bought it. Potholes were invented here in the twincities and migrate to other places, based on how many we have here!!!! I run along just fine. And, if avoidance is your modus operandi, like mine, the drop will help the handling to avoid them IF you see them in time. Driving in snow hasen't been hampered either, as far as I can tell. I do network support throughout Minnesota, and have driven in all weather condidtions just fine.

No, I have Goldlines and have had no problems in Chicago.

replace your shocks and struts with ones made for loweing springs at the same time. otherwise when they go bad because you didnt change them, your just wasting money again. its not any extra work to do when changing the springs

i got soem trd springs, struts and shocks, for 250$ i need to see first if the service guy at the dealership wants them.

Yin Yang, I'm doing my GoldLine springs this weekend.
I went with them because I've heard many times over that
they will keep the stock ride quality (which is already a bit
bouncy) rather then make the ride even tighter like the
Tanabe I was lookin at.

I also went with 215/45/17 tires in order to put a hair more rubber
between the road and the rim.

As for the spring install, it looks pretty easy, just time consuming.

What I'm thinking is, if my install this weekend goes smooth and isn't too much of
a pain, I'd be happy to do a spring install day where we can get 3-5 boxes that
have springs in hand and would like help or moral support. I've got a decent
portable tool set, two pair jack stands, and a good 2 ton jack that get's low enough
to get under my Porsche....so tool wise I'm set. I just want to make sure I'd be
comfortable with offering help with the spring install first. So I don't want to commit
to anything till I do my own first.

I'll post here after this weekend and we'll see what happens.

^^springs are simple, i can bust out teh rears in under 5 minutes and have the new ones on, with the right tools and a lift...if its jacked maybe 10 minutes...the front take a bit more time.....very easy job after you do it once though...I'm sure you will have no issues...


I have S-techs which now sit a bit lower than 2'' and i bottom out all the time with potholes....got used to it...

Anybody have experience with the Hotchkis or Tein NF210s? They seem to offer a drop in the range I'm interested in.

I have the tein h techs, sounds like what you're looking for. 1.5ish when settled, smoother ride.

If you deal with a lot of pot holes and rough roads DO NOT go with goldlines. Go with the RS-R's if you want the goldline drop but the TRD ride. I ride trd's and I love them on the high way and they take the bounce out of the stock ride.

yeah i hate potholes i just cuss up a storm when and if i hit them. whether the potholes are little, big, shallow or deep.

I also purchased the Tein H for the smoother ride. They say 1.1" drop but I hear just as you are saying 1.3" - 1.5". Now just waiting to install (Waiting for the spring thaw here in Michigan.

since our cars are pretty new... the need for struts isnt nessesary. if you havent got the money for em, no problem, since you said you have no automotive capabilities you wont even be able to tell the difference, along with a lot of these other enthusiasts, let alone know what spring will suit your needs... its balogna. another side note, if you do decide to go with a higher perf. strut and youre new at this stuff youre gonna hate yourself. after all it seems to me like 80% of people on this board are all about cosmetics anyway than function or practicallity.
