Default VSV boost leak?

I just recently got myself a boost leak tester and found a large leak on one of my hose clamps. Ordered some band clamps and solved that. Now I am to smaller leak elimination.

Now when I pressurize the system I hold pressure well to about 5 psi then I start to have a small leak. The odd thing is the VSV begins making a lot of noise after 5 psi and seems to be letting boost through the valve even though the car is off. This mean I need to replace this valve or is this something other boosted guys experience too?

This is some information i too could use. When i did a leak test i had the same problem. Dont know what to tell you though. I just left mine alone as it was the only thing i had causing a boost leak.

Any pics of what you used? I do not want to buy a new one if it is just going to leak again.

I think I am going to put a vacuum check valve inline befor ethe VSV and see how that tests under pressure.

Took me a few months to get around to it but I stopped at a local hot rod shop and got a heavy duty check valve and some brass barbs. I hooked it up this weekend and boost leak tested. Did not get the humming this time and seemed to be holding boost above the 5 psi or so when the VSV started to give. driving it this week and then going to tear back into it and will take a couple pics but it seems to have fixed my problem.

Please post pictures of where you put the check valve.

Took a shot while I was replacing my output SC seal. I installed it just before the VSV and only thing I had occur was I threw the vacuum code for the VSV as start up once. I cleared it immedaitely with the scan gauge and hasn't shown again. I think it threw it at start up since it is a heavier valve and needs more vauum to operate.

So, pardon my ignorance. What way is the check valve working? You have boost running out of the throttle body hose into the VSV. Are you stopping the boost from reaching the VSV, yet allowing vacuum to pull on it? Just want to make sure before I try. Thanks for posting?

Yes that is what the check vavle is doing and the VSV has a check vavlve inside it as well it just doesn't hold up well too the boost side of things. SO yes it allows vacum to reach but blocks boost.

About 20 bucks total, valve was 15 I believe and then a couple bucks for the barb ends.

I use there US Plastics check valves they are available in high temp with a viton seal. Don't forget its $10 shipping so even though they are a couple bucks, you have to tack on shipping cost.

i made my own for like $4-5. They are not vehicles specific. it just depends on what size inlet your turbo has. Just get one that matches your inlet.

Well the dezod kits turbo has a 3" inlet but it comes with a 3"-2.5" reducer coupler to hook up the intake. Your gonna want to go with a 2.5" one so you can reuse your intake coupler and not have to buy another one. If the boost leak tester your buyin already comes with a coupler to hook up to the turbo then a 3" is what you want.
