Default xA/xB XRS swap

I was wondering if any of you xA/B guys have done or thought about swapping an XRS engine with the stock. I was thinking about buying an xA and doing an xrs swap. To me that would seem to be one of the first things i would do for mods. I didn't research it much. But would the 1.8 vvtl-i engine fit in an xA/B engine bay? Are the motor mounts in similar spots or would you need to grind and fabricate? Just curious. any responses would be appreciated.

no it has not been done, but it has been dicussed. yes, the engine can fit..there would need to be new mounts and 4-6" of frame cutting due to the tranny. and good luck finding the complete swap for under 3k

Just use the 1zz 5spd tranny and it'll bolt up fairly easily. the xrs is 2zz. 2zz's in complete form are quite expensive, 1zz's are cheaper and more plentiful. Or you can make a 3zz whcih is the 1zz block with 2zz head.

1zz is the only reasonable swap right now, the 2zz requires alot more work

Are you sure about that? From my information resources, the 3zz is a japanese engine (no longer used USDM) for Corolla's. I believe it is a 1.6L engine, DOHC, VVT-I (without lift). It's supposed to be used on lower model Corolla's in Asia.

Exactly , it'd only cost them like 500.00 more they could charge us like 1,000.00 more and i'm sure that 90% of us would buy it.

Yeah, except for the fact that this car was designed for the Japanese market and brought here basically as-is to save cost. That kind of works against them tearing the whole car apart to reverse engineer a different engine in it.

It could be worse, we could have gotten the base 1.3 liter!
