Anyone painted an OBX shifter?
I recently purchased a 2011 Xb, and I got one of the silver and black OBX shifters (for the automatic transmission). I like the look of it, but I want to convert the silver parts to red.
Has anyone had any luck painting it a different color? I don't believe the silver is metal, I think its just painted plastic, so I was thinking I could just sand it down and spray paint it. Any recommendations on paint types that work well, or strategies to do this correctly?
Thanks!

I was thinking of taking this approach.
Use painters tape to tape off the faux leather parts of the ****, then take a very fine sand paper and go over the chrome/silver parts. Then throw on a few coats of some sort of paint and some clear coat.
I just don't know what type of paint or clear coat to use, or if my idea would even work. I would rather not ruin the shiftknob if I can avoid it.
Thoughts?
