A new boot look for my shortened manual shift lever :)
I recently shortened my manual shift lever and decided I'd like to lower the boot as well. So, I popped off the shift console top panel, unsnapped the inner boot frame, and started experimenting.

I'm thinking the no-frame look is working fine, but my first boot attempt was too tall, so I took a second pass on the dimensions.
If that works out, next step will probably be some elastic from Joann's Fabrics.

You know I have never really noticed that frame there before...LOL!! I might have to play with mine too when I paint the rest of my interior pieces. I have some of that "cf" fabric laying around I might have to throw something together...
Either way...I am in for new pics when you get around to getting the different fabric.

I have two material candidates for the boot, one being the felt (wasn't sure how it would look, but it's convenient to work and I didn't know how losing the frame would look either) and the other being some black vinyl I picked up for an armrest project that's currently stalled.
As long as it looks good, I may well stick with the felt, at least for awhile.

I think it looks pretty decent and so I've completed the felt boot (the boot color, especially in the installed photos, looks very grey for some reason, however; it's much blacker in person .) Don't know if or when I'll switch to vinyl, but I'm in no rush. Decided against elastic (though turned out I had some) -- hemming the opening works well.
Here are some photos (daylight this time).
I think I prefer it without the frame. Probably my cheapest project to date -- everything was on hand -- just a question of head scratching and time .

I finally got a photo that has the boot color correct. I think the problem with the previous two photos has something to do with the way the camera handles the background bright exterior.

If anyone's interested in switching to a shortened manual shift lever (I like the lower appearance as well as the sportier feel), here is my thread on it. I can either shorten yours or shorten one for you.
