would this be a bad idea? i love the pros of the flywheel but don't want to deal with a harsh aftermarket clutch pedal.

The feel of the pedal is directly related the lever arm of the diaphragm spring. As luck would have it given the same number of fingers and the same thickness of spring, a performance pressure plate can have a lot more clutch pressure by moving the pivots out board shorting the spring that push on the disk, and because a shorter spring has MORE tension there is more pressure on the disk. So you say big deal, well it is because the shorter applied spring leaves a longer lever arm on the inboard side (toward the center) the longer lever arm vs the shorter applied spring means that the clutch pedal is lighter on MANY performance clutches. But wait there is no free lunch the longer throw on a performance clutch means that you have to push much further on the clutch pedal to completely disengage the clutch and the engagement of many performance pressure plates of the design above not only engage right off the floor, they are very quick on the grab, all be cause the lever arm is so much GREATER then the stock pressure plate.

My performance clutch on my 300+ ft-lbs wheel 4 banger features a much lighter clutch pedal pressure then bone stock! More throw and quicker engagement.

So you can run the stock clutch and plate or you can look for one that has maybe 30% more pressure plate clamping but retains the stock size and number of diagram fingers. You can have the best of both worlds. I for one like stock friction material unless you are going crazy HP. I thought TRD had a clutch… or is that still vaporware?

I’m sure there will be lightweight billet steel or aluminum / iron flywheels and reasonable to wild clutches. TRD will have to produce a clutch IMO as the Vortec type supercharge is capable of BIG power numbers.

sweet. yeah i forgot TRD makes a clutch. i think that would be the best bet paired with a l/w flywheel. thanks for the info.
