I always wondered this. What happens to a engine if you dont brake it in safely? I was told that your supposed to take it easy for the first 500-1000 miles what diffence would it make if you didnt?

the owners manual basicly said, if you want longer life of the car and better fuel economy, do the best as you can to follow the break in period per the manual. No other specific reasons why.

Keep in mind also, the car has not seen real world driving. the ECU needs time to know your driving habits so it can cater to your desires. For the springs, well, these haven't experiance traveling over cracks, small road indentations. So take it easy as well during the break in period.

not breaking in the engine right can cause problems to the car, but it probably won't be immediate. it will probably happen as your warranty expires which is why you want to take it easy. just don't redline it and drive it easy for a 1000 miles. after that you can go willy-nilly, but you want be easy on it.
