View Full Version : so ive got a stock scion, now what should i do to it?
ShadowStriker 07-21-2010, 10:36 PM So yesterday i got a 04' Scion XB Manual, and i know these things are made for modding, but what kind should i do with it? I have a list of things I'd like to put in like:
Ecomod (heard those can make it go all the way up to like 45 mpg)
GPS/DVD Player
Paint/Decal
New Headlights/Interior Lights
but definitely something like this:

captainlaziness 07-21-2010, 10:43 PM Ecomod (heard those can make it go all the way up to like 45 mpg)
Not sure what that is...care to elaborate?

well from what ive heard its like some part mods that you stick into the car that decreases the amount of fuel used but doesnt affect engine performance. im not mech savvy so i have no idea how it would be done lol
captainlaziness 07-21-2010, 10:54 PM Sounds fishy. Got a link by chance?
spr0k3t 07-21-2010, 11:31 PM Most all ecomods are hoaxes. Be very careful when considering those. The best ecomod known to date is the scangaugeII. It doesn't modify anything... it helps the driver learn how to consume fuel more efficiently. When I'm driving with gas milaege in mind, I get around 34-35mpg... otherwise I tool around at an average of 28-32 depending on how agressive I am as well as how the traffic is.
Information to be found on why these fuel saving widgets should be avoided: http://www.fuelsaving.info/index.htm
If you want to save fuel, use your foot... not your wallet.
Sciond 07-21-2010, 11:55 PM and you can the eco performance mod.....the flux capacitor

Murphys_Law 07-22-2010, 04:34 AM total of three posts and the burning of him has already begun, and we all wonder why this site has gotten slow. theres no new blood, people run them off the first time they say something strange. OP already said they were not mech inclined
1GreeKtC 07-22-2010, 08:05 AM ^your point?
This economod will pretty much just deduct money from his wallet without adding any MPG.
Not sure how much more fuel efficient you could be other than a stock 1.8L N/A engine with a manual tranny.
dropzone 07-22-2010, 08:23 AM What's the goal of the car? Trying to get it into shows or just sheer enjoyment? In the end you are going to do what you want, all we can do is try to point you in the right direction to have a cleanly modded ride.

x3 Don't fall for the those fuel saver gimmicks, and research research research.

dropzone 07-22-2010, 08:30 AM He did put that in the later post, I was looking at the first post.
dropzone 07-22-2010, 09:17 AM ^Air Spencer CS-X3 with the Squash scent is what's in the car now, actually all the cars at the house are smelling good with this air freshener. I didn't get mine from the site in the pic though.

your no god..get off the cross
spr0k3t 07-22-2010, 01:41 PM Some cheap mods you can do to your box.
1. Debadge (0 cost)
2. Remove the throttle slack (0 cost)
3. Remove vinyl around the windows on the doors (0 cost)
4. Exhaust tip (cost of the tip only)
5. 25-35% tint on the front doors
6. Painting interior panel pieces (be sure to prep correctly)
For interior/exterior lighting... I always direct people to the expertise from Phil over at Oznium.com. They have fantastic customer service and great pricing across the board.
+1 request for shots of the box.

spr0k3t 07-22-2010, 05:01 PM Murphys right. Doing the I/H/E upgrade will increase overall horse power which in turn would increase the gas mileage... however it also makes the car more fun to drive.
RedneckwithanxB 07-22-2010, 05:27 PM What you need to do first is drop the car, because lets face it, wheelgap surrports terrorism.
After that do the IHE. Put a nice set of wheels on the car (or buy the most gaudy ones that you can find, its youre choice, well just point and laugh) and call it done! all in all your looking to spend a grand...
ShadowStriker 07-22-2010, 10:40 PM so i read some of the posts, and now i have another set of questions:
1. What's an I/H/E upgrade, where can i get it done and how much will a good system cost? and im assuming that I/H/E stands for Intake/Horsepower/Exhaust?
2. How much will it cost to drop kit the car? cause i know a lift kit goes in between 2-6k
as far as pics i'll try and get some more up tommorow, for now, this is all i got

dropzone 07-22-2010, 11:02 PM 1. The H in I/H/E is for header. The xB only has ONE header. There are vendors in the sponsored sales section where you can find special pricing on some products and save some $$$.
2.Lowering the xB can be done with springs that are about $130 for Megan and $200+ for the rest offered(and better preferred) or you can step up to adjustable coilover setups start around $895 and go up. Do the install with a friend that's familiar with lowering vehicles to save you some $$$ and helps you to familiarize yourself with th car.
(Pricing info I just went to WeSellCarParts)

1. There is more than 1 header for the xB, just only one on the engine... felt that needed clarification
2. Lowering an xB can be done for under $100 if you get something from the classifieds here...
3. Thanks for your opinions
OP. Please learn how to resize pics

1. Yes there is more than one header offered for the xB. Just don't go around saying or posting "I'm looking for headers for my xB." It only comes with one.
2. True, if he chooses to go that route.
3. ORLY, you're welcome.
