and i was wondering if the experts know how to change the ohms on it or if its possible? i havent looked at it yet but he wanted to know if you can change the ohms how ? thanks..

 

If it says 8 ohm, it's 8 ohm.

The only thing that can be changed is the amp... which depends on the amp itself and the wiring of that amp.

 

the ad says "8 ohm dual voice coil"

with the two 8 ohm voice coils you can wire it to be 4 ohms. You could actually wire it to be 16 ohms but nobody would do that.

dang, I just tried it and the link worked for me. Any tips on how to post hyperlink? Use small jumper speaker wires and go from + to + and another jumper from - to -. That will give you 4 ohms mono or on one side of an amp..

Actually the Best Buy website is wrong, that sub is DVC but each voice coil is 4 ohms. Wire the coils in parallel for a 2 ohm load or series for an 8 ohm load.

 

thats what i was thinking. i've never seen a speaker that was over 4ohms, other than for home use.

They could either be dual 4's or dual 2's

 

go to the link i posted. it says 4 + 4 = dual 4 ohm.

 

they come in either dual 4 or dual 2 ohm

We don't know which subs op has.

 

The link the op posted is for the 1043D, which is dual 4 ohm. The 1023D is dual 2 ohm.

When you say "these", are you implying your friend bought 2 of them?

People here have already replied on the wiring question as it pertains to 1 sub (dual 4 Ohm = 2 Ohm when parallel wired, 8 Ohm if series wired), but you need to consider the additional wiring & load implication if 2 subs are being used. The optimal load, as determined by the wiring, will be dependent on which amp is used (and whether it's bridged or not, if it's a stereo amp).
