I was looking into getting a short throw shifter and I have heard mixed things on ease of installation. Anyone know if it is an easy install and time to install?

It's not exactly a hard installation. It's just some parts take more effort and it can get frustrating. My knuckles were beat up afterwords but it was definitely worth it.

easy install if you have the tools needed
if you don't have tools... well.. obviously it's gonna be a bit difficult, won't it?

with the right tools, you can do it in like 30 minutes.

not a hard install. The 30 minutes it takes are more than worth it for the crisper shifts :).

It is easy. Well, there is only one thing you would have to worry about...its that evil washer. I cringe at the idea of how long it took me to remove it.

Depends on the kit. ie. the TRD kit comes with a complete cage assembly. Just swap it with the old and reconnect the shifter cables. Other kits are cheaper but you have to tap the stick out of the cage assembly like so:
http://www.doctorisotope.com/shifter_guides
from what I've seen only the TRD comes with a complete cage assembly, everything else is a bit more involved.

tl;dr:
at best: console removal, 4 bolts and 3 cables.
at "worst:" some quality time with hand tools.

IMO, TRD is so modest you can't tell the difference.

Dr. Isotope used to sell a kit with the cage, easy swap.

used to? he still can if he has people send him stuff..

and for me at least.. it's easy, if not easier, for me to swap out just the shifter part than replacing the whole assembly. ymmv.

simple. I did cage riser bushings, new shifter rod, and cable bushings in about 30 minutes. nothing about it is hard. You just have to have patience.

If you are installing a TRD assembly it's a lot easier than taking everything a part. Here's a link to the tC TRD Shifter and the installs are in the upper right hand corner of the page so you can check it out. http://www.trdsparks.com/displayparts.php?Mdl_dtl=687&Part_cat=20&parts_id=641

Find a way to get plenty of light in there. I did mine outside in the afternoon sun w/ the roof open. Use a DIY from this site or instructions that come w/ the kit you buy and you'll be fine.

If you don't get a kit that comes with a new cage then you'll run into a step in the process that's simple as pie but is a b*tch to complete because you have little to no leverage in there. An hour and some curse words later its all over.
