what is the deal with exhaust grounding?

does it do anything? Why does it do anything? and why do kits use the weird flat braided wire?

i'm assuming since it's grounding muffler/exhaust to chassis, the braided wire handles vibrations/movement better than regular wire (?)...

I will however call bs to all of these claims. any effect (at all) will be very minimal. . if it was 16 bucks I'd buy it.

Interesting. I'm in the process of installing an armature radio in my ride and some of the reading I've been doing has suggested grounding the exhaust system to reduce "noise" over the radio. I'm assuming that since the exhaust is a "conductive" extension all the way from the engine (header) that its basically the same thing as grounding any other engine part that is usually included in a grounding kit. Just a guess.

Sorry if I mislead. Every car I’ve ever owned has had a grounding strap for the hood. (And I’m not going outside now in a blizzard to scope the XB.) A car represents an electromagnetic field which affects radio reception. Any large metallic part which is in proximity to this field which either changes its alignment or has intermittent contact will alter radio wave access to the receiver. Everyone’s noticed how people walking around a radio or TV will affect reception. The hood and exhaust are imperfectly grounded through a hinge or hanger and will, through minor shifts and vibrations, create radio noise. I once got rid of a friend’s radio noise in a ’67 Mustang by ground strapping his doors. I’ve heard of improved radio reception by grounding trunk lids and hatches.

Grounding the exhaust shouldn’t affect horsepower unless the O2 sensor wants a better ground.

The next warm sunny day I’ll look at the XB’s hood and see where the ground is. That should be in June!

Werd. That's gotta be the lamest scam I've ever heard of. Grounding out your exhaust system? Because your exhaust is carrying current? Damn, I hope not!

I think the exhaust it pretty well grounded to the motor.
But that's just me.

Interesting find, I think it may not effect engine performance. Even if it work, you shouldn't buy it. Makes one yourself for less than $5.

although, i believe in the benefits of the engine bay grounding (brighter lights/lower idle rpms)... i'm wondering how much longer it'll be until someone decides that the driver and passengers need to be grounded as well... perhaps we can beat them to the punch...

"when changing your muffler bearings it is recomended that at this time you also install an exhaust grounding kit"

Snuppy has solved my static problem when I get out of the car. I will just use my computer ground strap to keep myself neutral.
