View Full Version : Clear Corners - Rear (Altima Lens Swap)

Here's the write up - DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'm not responsible if you make a mistake on the install.

Tools Needed:

194 bulb wire socket

93-97 Nissan Altima Rear Bumper Lens
(You can get the clear lens from www.infinitemotorsport.com or call Pujan at 817 545 4444)

Phillip Screw Driver

Electrical Tape

Molding Tape

6-pack Heineken

1. First buy the rear clear lens for the 93-97 Nissan Altima. Go to autozone/pep boys and buy the 194 bulb wire socket.

2. Unmount your rear bumper....there is one on each side.

3. Reach inside behind the stock red lens and unscrew it from the bumper.

4. Once you unscrew it, pull out the stock lens and cut the wire (cut it as close as you can to the connectors.

5. Then you connect your 194 bulb wire socket. Pop it in inside the clear lens and test it first before you mount everything back to the bumper.

6. Get your molding tape and put strips around the backside of the lens so it will stick to the bumper.

7. Voila!!! then you can drink to that.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Z,

it's not a replacement, but i don't know if you would say "conversion" since the clear lens was for another car and it fitted right in.

the lens i used was for the NISSAN ALTIMA, you can also try using the clear rear lens for the 95-97 honda accords but it needs modding.....the bulb i used was (JDM) yellow and it's no illegal since it's on the side. I got my tom's sticker when i bought my tom's springs. thanks for the compliments.

Why go to all the hassle? I hate to sound like a naysayer , but any light back there at all is godawful , I'd much ratehr spend that same amount of time working , save up a lil bit of money and hit the body shop to fill it in.

higgins0060

To each his own, I like working on my car myself. It wasn't just a mod it was a learning experience for me considering I've never done anything or knew anything about my previous cars. If I did have the money though I would have bought a body kit and not worry about it at all, but it was a fun little project, if you don't mind the hassle.

looks good. never noticed this tech thread (then again I never look in the tech section....). Thanks for telling me it was here STICK.

I still prefer a more flush mount light. Or no light at all - which I may end up removing my own clears from that spot and just filling it in.

All the same. Good job. Good find on the part. It's a little less involved than having to fit in the Accord lights that a few of us have.

LED tails... now there's a route not many will be following you on (but wished they could ... you'll be getting begged for sets though). One of those "ONLY I GOT IT!" mods until someone starts selling them on eBay .. way to much tech. for most folks. *thubs up*

---BTW - I doubt I coulda been the 'first' on accord lights ... aint no one copying 'me' if they do it ... I already copied someone else (just don't know who yet) for them. - And I woulda used YOUR style had I noticed it before. Looked at 1000 different cars, never noticed that one. (damnit)

Red REFLECTOR only applies to the REAR. It's a federal (FMVSS statute) law. Lights to the SIDE must ILLUMINATE (in the rear) either red or amber - lens color is unimportant. Side illumination to the front must ILLUMINATE either white (clear) or amber - again, lens color is unimportant.

Sure, you may GET a ticket, but GETTING a citation doesn't mean you actually are in the wrong - gee - go figure - a cop could be wrong - (it's the courts job, not the officers to determine guilt). If you get a ticket, fight it, it's not illegal. No big deal.

Cool Mod, I really wish we had "Pick and Pull" junk yards neer where I live, but the F*$#&^g Insurance companies have ruined that for us. You can find a lot of stuff when you have no idea what you are looking for.

I did a lot of work on my cars when I lived in FL and was free to roam the junkyard on a Saturday. Wait, roaming the Junkyard looking for ideas and parts isn't acceptable social behavor? Those were great days!

I think you are trying to read between the lines when there is nothing there to read. The law says the color of the LIGHT (!!), not the color of the lens. You should probably know that there are several OEM models that come equipped with clear LENS side markers, but illuminate in either red or amber - which is perfectly legal under federal law.

Ok, I'll bite. Which cars? Do you have any photos of them?

If that was true then why would Toyota bother to install separate amber reflectors on the sides of the clear headlight housing when there is already an amber bulb in there.

Also, side markers aren't just lenses. They have to be reflex reflectors by law. And the reflectors need to be colored (amber front side, red rear side).

Just did mine yesterday and am pleased with the results. The only thing I did different was fab up a small bracket for the other side of the light to help hold it in place. I also used some black silicone to keep it from sliding but the additional bracket holds it so tight that I don't think it was really necessary. I guess it is just extra assurance.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g166/cyclman68/IMGA0006.jpg

I know, its dirty, but I can't afford to wash it after every snow storm.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g166/cyclman68/IMGA0005.jpg

This is view of bracket after I reinstalled bumper. It is the sheet metal finger on the right side. I should have taken a pic before reassembly but I was in a hurry to finish last night, since it was so cold.

Just installed mine yesterday with hardly any modifications by simply snapping the lights into place. The only thing I had to do was cut off the sides of the Nissan plug so that it would easily plug into the car's socket. I then secured the connection with lots of electrical tape. The whole thing took about 30 minutes, and the result is at least as good as the original, in my opinion.

Looks great. I don't know when if mine will ever be this clean. Where did you manage to find the clear lenses? I had a difficult time finding them and thus opted for the amber. But the clear ones look more in tune with the rest of the car. BTW, I did not have to remove the bumber, use tape, silicone, hot glue or any additional parts. The lights snapped right in and seem to be pretty secure.
