I live on the Southside of Chicago and it's been a while since I've been on the race scene. Does anyone in the Chicagoland area know where people meet up now days?....

Im down! Those stupid innocent pedestrians shouldn't be on the streets anyways!!

BadDudeTC3
08-17-2010, 12:21 AM
Police stations....really (No comment about that). :icon_nono: Sorry but I'm not a rookie when it comes to the race scene and sending people off! I only race at the Drag strip because I have a wife and kid so racing on the street isn't an option. I just wanted to see where people got together to hang out locally rather than going all the way to Joliet (Route 66 Dragway), Morocco Indiana (U.S. 41), or Kenosha Wisconsin (Great Lake Dragway). I'll just go to a test and tune night at Route 66 and ask someone there.

Back when I was in college we use to hang out at a local restaurant called Mickey's in Park Forest where you could hang out, have a good meal, and see all kind cars whether they were built for drag racing or simply restored antiques and that is what I was looking for now.....not illegal street racing!

you should have been more specific...race scene is going to get a different reaction than car scene. That's good that you aren't street racing but, had you been more specific in the first place, would have gotten a lot less bashing...just sayin...

BadDudeTC3
08-17-2010, 12:30 AM
I can totally understand that. It's just been a long time since I've been on the car scene but thanks for clearing that up.

Perhaps you should check out some local clubs like Scion Evolution or Scikotics, if you own a Scion. They don't race or anything but if your looking for people to hang with, they probably would be ideal for you. But don't expect them to be performance oriented, they are more oriented to building show cars like audio, stickers, lights, fog machines, etc.

Either that or you could check out JDMchicago.com

They host a list of local meets and so on. Meets that are open to any car enthusiast.

If you're interested in racing with turns, my wife & I autocross with SCCA in Joliet (next to rt66 dragstrip) & occasionally with Salt Creek at Maywood Park.
We race my daily driver, so it's completely safe.

Strats is one of the only places.
except it gets worse every year.
the cars get worse, the people get worse, it just sucks.

most of the cars are all bolt on cars, no one wants to bring out their "race cars" because the police are everywhere now thanks to people streetracing in the area, doing burnouts when they leave, people fighting etc.

BadDudeTC3

Found the car scene out here in Chicago thanks to my friend Keith Brown from work and I must say it was nice seeing a mix of Domestic and Import cars having a good time just hanging out!

BadDudeTC3
09-10-2010, 07:12 PM
Although I've never been there before, my buddy told me about Strats and it doesn't sound like a place I want to hang out.....to much drama from what I've heard. I'll just stick to hanging out at the Dominicks off of Roosevelt.....definitely a laid back atmosphere and people are there just to hang out.

yellowxhoodie
09-10-2010, 07:15 PM
Dominicks off Roosevelt?
in Chicago or what?

BadDudeTC3
09-10-2010, 07:33 PM
Yep in Chicago. Right down from UIC. If you're heading north on 94 from the southside as soon as you get to the downtown area you get off on Roosevelt and make a right then head down a couple lights and it's on the right hand side.

Anybody been to Strats lately? Thinking about heading there in a couple weeks....still getting my tC together. Just was wondering how its been.....last year when I went it was pretty cool and laid back. Didn't run into any rude people or see any fights like people were saying but that could be because I went towards the end of the racing season.

Wow! That's the definition of what happens when a rookie driver gets hold of a car with a little power. I'm sure people were clowning him for that!

I'll probably swing through there next week and see how it is. If it does turn out to be terrible I'll just head downtown to the Dominick's where I usually hang out.

I'm a straight line kinda guy but I'm going to do some track events this year. Nothing against autocross cause I know that takes a lot of skill but I'd rather be on an actual track like this.

You'd be shocked at what a good driver in a 100hp car can do on a course with 4x more turns than an F1 driver encounters...
I wouldn't be surprised if he's beaten 400hp mustangs on raw time.

We'd all like to be the next Sebasian Vettel, but autocross costs a third to a quarter of a track event, not to mention a competitive track event.

By the way, autocross school is this coming weekend. You get half a day of classroom instruction, and a day and a half of track time with in-car instruction. $130. Can't beat that!

The only people who knock autocross have never tried autocross...
I've dragged before also...

Just for giggles, I looked up the race results from the WQ Toasters veryfirst race after drivers school.
On raw time, he out-drove a Genesis Coupe, an RX7, a 'Vette, an EVO X, a modified 240SX.

The next event is April 15th at Rt 66 raceway in Joliet.
Come and race my two students from driving school last weekend- a Street Touring Compact class Celica, and a Street Mod FWD tC. They were actually running similar times, proving power is only useful if you can use it!

Duderino,

We will have no less than 3 Scions racing tomorrow-

2 tC's in Street Touring F - mine, and a former student of mine.
1 turbo tC in Street Mod FWD, also a former student of mine from a few weeks ago.
My other student from this year drives a nicely-prepared Celica, and he usually beats the turbo on raw time.
