Default Scion tC cargo space

I'm thinking of trading in my xD and getting the new 2011 Scion TC. I was surprised to learn the tC has more total cargo space than the xD (specs).

In reality, is this space usable since it is a coupe with a slanted back window after all?

All depends on how you pack. I'm able to fit quite a bit in my (first gen) tC. But yes, occasionally the hatch does get in a way. I've had the same issue with my g/f's xD though. If that's your only reason for considering a trade, I don't think it's worth it.

i can sacrifice some cargo space. i was hoping the tC would offer a less bumpy ride, less road & wind noise on the highway, less understeer on cornering, and better acceleration.

Depends on what you do to it. Out of the box, it is likely a bit more stiff than the xD actually.. so the xD would theoretically be more comfortable.

The road and wind noise is subjective to a degree - though the xD is still a very economy kind of car - so I wouldn't expect incredibly insulation or anything from it.

The new tC is still FWD. It will understeer. Guaranteed. Only way to lessen it is to throw on a rear sway bar (and probably some other suspension mods) but then you're losing the potentially comfy ride.

The last one? Ya, it should be able to do that. It has a bigger engine with way more power than the xD - but you're also getting a larger, heavier car, that isn't as good on gas, and only had 2 doors.

See there are tradeoffs for just about everything. You just need to prioritize them and figure out which one really suits your needs the best. Then again, the first thing you should really do is just go drive the new tC when it hits dealers and decide from there if you can live with it or not.
