hey i wanted to put dual tips on the the toy box but i dont want it to kill the power i was told by people that it will cause the car to have to much flow and so back force so it would slow it down i see HAWAINBUILT has dual so i am confused can i or should i just do it and have a dummy dual?

you could run smaller piping to the dual.....that would help keep backpressure........

i wouldnt do it just for the fact you might get laughed at for having dualies on a 1.5 4 cyl. find a nice 3.5" catback, more power and will have a nice sporty non ricer look

if your not into the performance thing just go for it

Dual pipes looks hella sexy. I was following EVILDAVE home from a meet and couldn't get over how much more balanced and symmetrical it looks. Like Sci Tc said, go with smaller piping and it shouldn't have a detrimental effect...

id run 1" inch pipe out of a quad exhaust set up :P

naw, in all seriousness, if you kept the pipe small, back pressure would be okay and you would have a hella clean system

Regarding the performance change due to dual exhausts, I really am not a tech to say up to what diameter you will start losing power.

Because I do drive an xB, the style of my ride isn't geared toward power anyway, I like it more for show simply put. Always have been a fan of the duals, always will.

Here are some pics of my friend's and my duals: EvilDave's Ride, George's Ride, and my ride...whatever you decide I'd love to see what you come up with!!

I have a question....I do like the look of the dual also....here is my question now....

Do you cut out the half circle to fit the exhaust on the other side ??

Hey brother Scott!!! Of course I'll be meeting in the middle in Colorado with to meet you all!!!

I wouldn't miss this for anything!!! You have a clean ride yourself buddy, keep up the great work!!!

The muffler I am running is a Magnaflow Muffler (Part number 11148) Single inlet dual outlet...costed me about $70 dollars!!!

I'm not much a Scion tech but I am an Automotive engineer by trade & one trick we do for concept cars that we want a lot of exhaust pipes for is to put an exhaust cone by the head to restrict back pressure at that point, you can also (not as effective) put a whasher on a screw close to the engine as possible right through the center of the pipe & turn it to open or close off or restrict if you will the exhaust causing a tuning effect, this is done quite often on project cars & really works well.

Hope this helps :)

does that set up wit the magaflow muffler? help or slows the box down? because i like the dual exhaust as well but i dont wanna loose that much power on it? i mean to keep the box for show but its also my daily driver....

depends on the piping more than anything. just stick with the 2.25"

oh ok i dont wanna just put some big pipes on but keep them slim and tucked in plus i wanna get an air ride suspension later on

I made the rear peice. had to be plastic welded and repainted. the driver side cut-out was grafted in from a passenger side peice that I bought (and cut up for the exhaust area), grafted the muffler in, the center together, and painted - reinstalled, all done.

it will lose power.

using a dual tip on the other hand is different

hotbox05
03-04-2005, 01:23 AM
It wont lose much power at all , the worst part about having a dual setup is the added weight

unlmtdndeavor
03-04-2005, 06:25 AM
just get dual tips, get a Y pipe done after the muffler. no point in our cars to run dual exhuast like the tc has on it. although a custom garage exhuast would be awesome!!! :eyebrow:

That or a single in single ou with a y pipe after the muffler.

so, consequently, any concrete facts as to which is technically better? the dual tips on a single muffler or the dual pipes off a single muffler? Opinions? :|

hotbox05

the dual pipe one would be slightly quieter , (normally) the best benefit is the more pipe arrangements you could place the tips in more places easily.

3.5 would be WAY too big unless you're using a turbo. As for "back pressure, I'm supprised with how often it's posted here (the magnaflow article, the how it works article) that people still think that your car requires "back pressure". that is totally false. when you go to a too large diameter pipe, exhaust VELOCITY is lost and thus results in deminished exhaust scavenging. As for Duals, If done properly you could GAIN HPm though it would be very neglegible like all the other exhaust setups on the xa/xbs

what about the borla catback? would this maintain exhaust velocity on an xa/b with just intake and headers? increase power? Its a pretty pricey setup at $580 but its soooo pretty
http://www.borla.com/media/prod_images/xlarge/140092.jpg
just look at the friggin thing, and I can instal it myself, which is a plus cuz i deff cant do a custom setup myself

bump for some more pics and details.
To those who had the dual set-up,
1)do you have any undercarriage pics?
2) pipe diameter used,
3)muffler brand(part number) used,
4) total cost.
5) sound clips?

thanks,

Hotbox, evildave, and fireballfish hit the nail on the head: you won't lose power.

Big pipes are a waste of space if you don't need them and duals are heavier but that's the worst effect you'll notice. The exhaust manifold or header and cat are restrictive enough (again, probably too restrictive), that you don't really need to worry about what you put after the cat.

Man that Borla system is clean. Anyone running that on an xA? I don't care if it does lose power (which I doubt with borla) cause it looks sexy as all heck!!
