Just curious
SO, I'm just really curious because I was talking about this with my friends today at work, but I was wondering if it was possible to put a 2J7 from a Toyota Supra in a 2004 scion xB? Because my friend has a 2J7 motor for sale with 75000 kilometers on it and I was wondering if it was something that could be possible.
possible? yes! extremely expensive and time consuming? oooooh yes!
ive been through swaps with the xB at my uncles shop. its not worth it unless this will just be your weekend show car. the complications that arise, time needed for the install and to keep it maintained.its just not worth it in the long run. and on top of all of that you better have about 5-10k dollars at your disposal for a job like this.
if you so happen to have that kind of money at your disposal i would suggest a turbo or supercharger instead. the xA/B are well sporty from the 150-200hp range, big engines don't necessarily translate to enhanced performance.
back to the swap though. the engine i helped/watched being replaced was the 2ZZ-GE 1.8L celica engine into the xB. that is the ideal swap in my opinion. not too terribly expensive, but left a great punch when the peddle hit the floor, it also leaves you with a seemingly endless array of mods and upgrades!

Cool, thanks for that reply, it was really helpfull. And another reason why I'm think of doing a swap is because my scion is automatic and I hate it -_- its so boring to drive lol.

now thats a descent ride in my eyes to put some money into. DO THE MATH!
Yeah, my xB is defenitly my project car. And here in Canada, 90-98 civics are everywhere lol XD And I just want to be able to keep up with those little civic's and still have a rare car around here. So I might just go with a supercharge next summer.

Do you have a list of what it would take to put the 1zz or 2zz in an xa? Trying to get a part list and what all it will take to do this swap.
-engine
-engine mounts(custom)
-transmission
-transmission mounts(custom)
-drive axles(refab)
-new ECU for both the tranny and engine(the real pain!)
-all the necessary sensors and electronics(most wont swap ovr from the 1nz)
the actual swap isnt too difficult with the know how, and the custom parts and refab'd parts werent too hard to make and come by, but the electronic side was hell! we wanted to keep the stock ECU from the celica because it seemed simple enough rather than a standalone ECU on a n/a stock engine, but we were wrong! it all seemed like a blur to me with the electronics so i cant help much with that!
ah man this was about 2and a half years ago, and like i said, i just helped and watched; i was still the young eager mechanic/tuner in training(still am! long ways to go!) but as far as the mechanics go we had gotten a donor car to work from but it looked something like:
