Which kind muffler is better catback or axleback?

The catback is better.

Axleback = the new exhaust goes from the muffler to the rear axle.

Catback = the new exhaust extends from the muffler all the way to the catalytic converter. More mandrel bent tubing is better.

Note the difference in the length of the pipe. The price difference there is deceiving, because the catback one there is a very expensive borla exhaust system.

I don't know why people spend almost 1000$ on cat back exhaust systems... all you need is a good muffler place to bend 1 pipe, attach it to the cat, and attach and axle back muffler... that would most likely be less than $300, then you would have a "cat" back that is as good or better than these "borla" or "creative imports" systems for hundreds less... of course $300 won't get you a stainless steel setup, but if your not showing your car, I doubt anyone will notice a difference.

Alphawerks put a fresh air intake, 60mm tb (55mm is stock), header, full 2.5 inch exhaust and gained 24 hp and 19 tq at the wheels. When they did this they dynoed with the hood up and air filter hanging out from the hood.

With a Weapon R Secret Weapon intake and alphawerks header only the tc was actually dynoed correctly and gained 21 hp and 15 tq at the wheels. So why pay roughly 600-800 for a tb and exhaust for 3 hp and 4 tq gain at the wheels. ITs pointless. This is all it gained 3hp 4tq for a full 2.5 catback and 60mm tb. Is it worth it? No!

A lot of research goes into the development of a well engineered exhaust. The fine details matter to some people.

That, and I don't have a single shop anywhere remotely close to me that does mandrel pipe bending.

so the cat would give more hp than the axle because the pipes help the cat?
