I am looking to replace my stock head unit with a new double din one. I've been looking at some of the double din systems and they are very impressive.

I haven't looked into it very much but the Pioneer Avic u310bt seems very good for the price. Nav (the screen pops out to become portable navigation unit with a battery), bluetooth, awesome looking ipod interface/control, and I found it for $300 and used around 230. It seems to be an older model, but that doesn't mean it can't be good right?

So for under $400, what would you recommend?

actually the U310BT's screen is not a portable navigation. once you separate it from the unit, the GPS stops working because there is no internal antenna in it.

i had a U310BT, worked great, and i would recommend it for the price. only downside is that the screen is a bit small, and the HUGE LACK of points of interests.

I got the DVD-AVH4000 by Pioneer and I paid way less that $400 - I love it - Touchscreen and and its not a flip-up so there is no motor to burn out or malfunction.

Yea I just read that about the removable screen. It's still nice that it removes though for security.

The Nav is actually probably the least important part to me. I don't really take trips so the lack of points of interest is really not a big deal. As long as it can get me home from wherever I am then I'm good.

The screen does seem a bit small but the price!

Question: Was it an easy install when you had it? And will I have to remove the radio cover?

no you wont have to remove the radio cover. it will close...but you will have to kinda press on it. when the radio cover is down, the joystick button is kinda pressed downward, basically its a tight fit unless you modify the mounting brackets.

i wish i had removed the screen for security...mine was broken by a thief because he failed to properly steal it and got frustrated and broke my screen...unfortunately you cant just buy the screen separate :(

I have a Pioneer/Premier F90BT. It's a great head unit w/ bluetooth, SD card input, and NAV, especially when upgraded to the 3.0 software/maps. I got one for a buddy for $370 shipped on eBay. It was certified factory refurbished, but it looks brand new and has a Pioneer warranty, so what's the difference.

my d3 closes the cover, there is just some slight modification that you need to do. I drilled on part of the inside cover plate where my d3 volume knob is.Its a fairly easy mod, discrete, and you dont have to purchase the adaptor brackets, i used my stock ones :)
