I turn off my car and go for dinner, when back tried to start the engine, hearing clicking, thought is battery, try to jump start but can't, same clicking only on starter, tow it home, changed the battery and starter still same thing. Anyone have any idea? like my flywheel or engine is stuck, can't get the starter to turn it. Just have the starter click and try to turn but won't. My car had 78K miles, automatic trans, 2006. Please help. Thanks, folks.

have you check the battery ground or the spark plugs, is your gas tank full

Take out the starter and have it tested. It sounds like it could be going bad. The clicking your hearing is the starter solenoid activating, but the motor not engaging. As long as you have a good battery with at least 12.6 volts it will not be the battery's fault.

have you checked for any blown fuses, is this the first time you experience this problem, have you had any parts replaced before this happened

Your engine has seized due to lack of oil! Just kidding, I don't know.

check all the fuse, all fine, no parts had been replace before, only regular oil change, probably engine seized. check oil and fluid all fine.

Get a bolt that will fit on the crank pulley and get a breaker bar. If you can turn the engine over then its not seized. Also while cranking check to see what your battery voltage is. It should not drop below 9.6 volts at any time. Autozone parts suck. Ive had 2 bad alternators from them already. Also try this, either with the starter in or out of the car, if you have a remote starter hook it up from the battery to the positive post on the starter(same post that the solenoid is connected to) and try to energize it. If you hear it spin then its the solenoid thats bad.

Thanks, i probably try crank pulley. i tried both old and brand new starter out. It turn just it can't turn the engine while it's in.

Bad part about this is there's no sign or wat so ever before it broke, no CEL, no noise, nothing...just die like that.

i seriously doubt your motor is seized, sounds like you have a bad connection at either the starter or the battery. also autozone parts are complete crap. i wouldnt ever use them, if your motor was seized you would hear 1 solid clunk when trying to start your car. if your having multiple clicks when trying to start its either a bad battery or bad connection.

Ok. Problem solved. Took out spark plugs, jack up front passenger side, take off the tire, take off the crank pully plastic splasher, use 19mm wrench, rotating crank pulley counter clock wise, had a buddy using flashlight, look inside the cylinder to see it moving, take off starter, had a buddy look inside for the flywheel moving as well so engine not seized. Put everthing back. Now put a 4 gauge wire replacing the wire black-red from the starter to the battery (listed as S5(B) page 48 if you have the electrical manual. Turn on the key to start, engine finally run, damn wire costed me new starter and battery that can't be return once you bought it at Autozone, so beware.

Nice, it was just a wire.

Was this a same size wire as stock or a bigger wire than stock?

i talked into the Autozone manager that finally gave me a refund on the starter. So at last not so bad either, just have to keep the brend new battery which has gigher Cranking amps and the old one is 4 years old anyway..just the trouble and time sepnt on trying to figure out what's wrong the worst part, and having no extra car to commute.

glad you got it all fixed though

Glad you got it fixed, but moving to the lower gauge wire will allow more amps to be drawn, which may be covering the real problem. Look at your old factory wire, unless theres corrosion or some of the internal wires were cut, it should be fine, and your problem should be else where. If you have access to an ammeter, could you get us how many amps your drawing while cranking the engine? It shouldnt be more than 150-215 amps while cranking with everything else off.
