Does anyone have a problem with a lot, a lot of dirt accumulating in the back of there xb? Is it because of the shape of the box?
I can wax the crap out of the car but soon as I drive to the store and come back its freaky dusty and dirty in the back of the xb!! :doh:

Yep, thats the way it is :tap: My car shows dirt in the back as fast as the hood. Yes, this has been covered before.

Virtually any vehicle with a vertically flat rear will have this problem. Probably caused by areodyanmics. I have had seveal minivans over the last 10 years and all exhibited this trait.

the tc has that problem too

shows even more dirt when its raining and it stops, holy sh** its bad. Like yesterday and today. I wash it for nothing yesterday! It looks like crap now! Freaking washington weather.

Well a spoiler help?

I've been wondering that myself. Do you guys with spoilers have dirty rear ends as well? Er..... I mean..... backsides, or , you know, the back end? :lalala:

I have a tC with the pedestal spoiler and I have a dirty rear!!

You just gotta learn to wipe.

I noticed that dirt magically sticks to my back window. I have to run the wipers every once and a while. I also noticed that the windshield gets really dirty/wet fast. It's probably the vertical nature.

I'm sure having a black car doesn't help. It's not like black hides dust/salt/etc. :P

I had the factory rear spoiler installed in the hope that besides looking cool, it would help with the dirt/water problem. Unfortunately, it did not help at all.

simple physics

as the car moves, any car, the air flow over and under the vehicle at the front of the vehicle, but as the air flow exits behind the rear of the vehicle, the air from underneath is kicked up as a turbulent flow is created. The air flow above the car must move at a higher speed due to the shape of the vehicle, the faster moving air above the vehicle creates a lower pressure, and in search of equilibrium, the slower moving air below the car (which has higher pressure) moves upwards to level out the pressure in the end.


This swirling air behind the car "pulls" the dirt and dust off of the ground and swirls it up against the back of the car.

as you can see, the green shows the flow of air below the vehicle, and as it exits at the rear of the car it swirls upward. if u watch the video u can see it even better.

this happens to all cars, no matter what shape... well except for cars shaped like teardrops because those allow for constant smooth airflow with no turbulent ending....

Wow thats a lot of info. So what you are showing us and telling us is that there is no way to stop it uh?

Invest in some detailing lubricant and some microfiber towels... Spray it down, wipe it lightly, and you're back in bidz-ness!

a flat surface will trap more dirt than a round or curve surface we all hjave this problem........... :silly:

I had this problem with the black exhuast forming on the back of my white box just shortly after a car wash everytime. But since adding the oem roof spoiler (air deflector) it seems to stay cleaner a little bit longer.

it happens on the tC too..... pain in the ___ when you wash your car and two hours later its dirty on the back end.... aggrivates the heck out of me.... howcome i see all these xB posts in the tC forum but we get yelled at for accidewntly posting in your forum.... oh i love Scion Life
