Default Redline?

If our redline is removed what can our engine properly make power up to and safely go up to? At least that people have tried already?

it will make less power and break. the 2az fe looses power very quickly above 6k rpms without serious power mods like turbo, supercharger, or a fully built n/a engine with custom cams.

Good Lord dude! Do you really think the manufacturer's redline rpm on our engines is designed to deceive us? Only fool with that if you can afford to replace your engine. You said yourself the xB2 isn't a fast car, so be kind to it, and in doing-so, be kind to yourself. If you want to push more power, then go turbo, but there's no advantage to over-revving -- it'll only cost you ! Also, if you are running a lightweight crank pulley, higher revs are a clear risk factor, not an advantage.

I wasn't sure, thats why I asked. I know the xb isn't a fast car but I could of swore I heard of one of our cars being revved to lik 7200 or something safely, but I can't remember. Thought I would ask cuz I remember on my old platform the redline could be pushed all the way 2k extra and still make power. Would like to see other people who have tried it tho on our cars.

Remember, this engine was designed with economy in mind, hence the F in 2AZ-FE.

there are actually some cars with engines that don't rev up to their pull power output. for instance, the original ford taurus SHO's were rev limited well below their peak power because the chassis couldn't take it. then the current buick, can't remember the exact one, but the newer compact one, it's transmission and redline are well short of peak power, but that is cuz GM sucks.

I wasn't going to do anything haha. I was seeing if anyone has done it first. I coulda swore I read a thread on here where a guy removed the redline up to 7200 and got the car also to go 155 or something like that. But I spend a lot of time on other forums as well may be getting them confused.

Yea buick that is what I thinking. I understand if the redline can't change at all, just wondering how well our valves and such were built. Be cool as ____ to be able to redline all the way up to like 8k or something haha.

What do you guys think of something like this?

http://www.fastscions.com/gude-perfo...d-package.aspx

I would like more power but do not want to turbo the car. Would enjoy somewhere in the ball park of 200 hp and feel that I would be close with this? What would there be needed to know with something like this?

with a greddy ultimate you can change up your rev limit. PM rhythmnsmoke he upped his rev limit when he was boosted and now that hes NA he still left it.

i think he only upped it to 6500 RPM as opposed to the stock 6250 (i think or it coulda been 6700)

if you have motor work (internals etc) people have upped there limit to 7200 etc..

all that money and work and voiding of warranty for...only 200 bhp? not worth it. trust me, 200 is not enough.

I have no more warranty. So basically whatever happens happens. 200 is enough for me in this car. I am building this car to be a fun car, not the fastest fwd scion or fastest car on the rwd. I love spirited back road driving. Could careless about going fast in a straightline. Dne it and more, gets boring.

2kish to get the parts compared to 4-6k depending on kit and then still have to get a turbo kit tuned and stuff to get past the 300 mark. For what you get on a this little valve kit isn't bad bang for buck.

yeah, but with a turbo you can have both. and having fun on the back roads sucks if you stuck behind some slow old people lost in a buick. that is where the straight line power lets you just blow by them and enjoy the rest of the road.

I am doing everything to my car with a budget. And with a budget turbo makes absolute no sense, plus it has the possiblity of destroying my engine. I plan on keeping this car for 20 more years or so. Maybe when i make a ton of money get a turbo kit, but if I make ton of money to blow 6k on a fwd car I will most likely just go buy a car with a proper turbo engine. I am building a car I will enjoy to drive around not compete with everyone on the street. Straightline is fun to a point, but its nothing like a little pep on tight twisty backroads. ESP where I live. And the car as it sits right now can get up and pass people on roads. 200hp is a fair amount and even more so in a FWD car.
