Scion involved in fatal accident (Santa Ana)
SANTA ANA - – Authorities have identified a 19-year-old driver suspected of losing control of his vehicle and striking and killing a 57-year-old woman walking on the sidewalk.
Police say Beau Richard Cook of Costa Mesa remains in the hospital in serious condition after an accident that they say began when he lost control of his vehicle and struck and killed Eloisa Aguilar of Santa Ana.
Witnesses told police that Cook was speeding south on Harbor Boulevard in his 2010 Scion shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, and may have ran a red light as he approached Warner Avenue.
Police believe he lost control of the vehicle, skidded across several traffic lanes, hit a curb and knocked down a fire hydrant.
Aguilar, who was walking on the sidewalk, was struck and killed instantly by the out-of-control car, police said.
Authorities believe that Aguilar, who was wearing scrubs at the time, was walking home from work.
Cook suffered injuries to his left leg and pelvis, and was taken to a hospital for surgery.
Police are still investigating the accident, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. They expect to turn their findings over to the Orange County District Attorney's Office, which will decide whether to file charges against Cook.
