Was thinking of taking my CAI and making it a short ram instead . For the reason of i work down a dirt lane. and was thinking it wouldnt get dirty as quick.. Do you really think ill loose any power by doing so. Oh its Tenzo R intake. Also it would be easier to get to filter to clean it. any sugestions

i jus installed my Tenzo R intake as a sri yesterday. It depends on u, it would be easier to take off the filter and clean it but im not sure about the power loss/gain.

I like the cold air intake. just easier to get to clean and whatever when its where i can see it.. not sure what to do

i have a tenzo... never thought about doing that... it would make things easier to clean idk about power loss. well im going to a drag strip friday. i will do a run with it as a CAI. and then another with it as a short ram. we will see if it makes a diff.

I'll chime in on your thread here.. I'm not sure what the exact numbers are on the xB between full CAI and SRI. But on the tC for example. The difference is minimal at best. I've read on the Injen CAI for the tC that the gain by running it as a full CAI vs. SRI is a mere 1-2hp gain at best. So to me, because of climate/weather where I live, and the minimal gains aren't worth the extra hassle for maintainence and/or risk of damage from possibly hydro-locking or extra dirt from driving conditions like one person above in this thread mentioned. To me the ease of maint. and reducing the risk of major engine damage isn't worth an extra 1 or 2 hp at best to me. But that's just the 2 cents IMHO.

*granted some like the TRD CAI do have the hydro shield. But I've actually rebuilt a tC at my local Toyota/Scion dealer for a goofball that hydro-locked their tC with the hydro shield installed. (it can help reduce the risk of hydro-locking but it by no means completely prevents it in all cases. I do a lot of custom builds so I get called in on some cases for them by local dealers sometimes.

Haven't found any indication that the TRD CAI provides any protection from water ingestion. It has a carbon filter (as does the OE air box), but that has nothing to do with stopping or even slowing water. There's no indication of a bypass valve, so I'm really interested in learning what you're referring to.

The AEM hydro shield wont do anything to prevent hydrolock if the filter is submerged. You want one of those bypass deals.
