stuck on the inside of my wheel. Would a basic tar and bug remover work ok? Please recommend any products if you can.
thanks.

I've used a product called "oops" to get tar off of my skin. It works great and I imagine if it didn't damage my skin, the finish on your wheels should be ok.

Your skin is renewable. At work I would clean my greasy hands with toluene or heptane as both were handy. But I would not want to use either on auto paint.

Looks like toluene is bad for even the most renewable of skins... http://health.discovery.com/encyclopedias/2120.html

Goo Gone and some Simple Green on wheels that are cool to the touch, don't use the stuff if the wheels are hot.

Simple Green would be the safe bet for a first try.

^^^^ Simple Green will not remove road tar. Use either Goo Gone, or, if you want to be easier on your hands, hit the spots with some WD40. Just spray it on, leave it for a minute, then rub off with a cloth. Follow up with a regular washing.

WD40 is the way to go.

Simple green sucks!

I have tried them all- the best is Turtle wax bux and tar remover.....

I spray my entire wheel well with that stuff....
let is sit for a few mins...
then wipe off with a towel ....
then i rinse when I wash the car...

Works GREAT!

Simple Green works great on my wheels. I have used it as part of my clean ritual for over 16 years now. Just spray on, ( even better if you have the foam making nozzle ) and let sit for a minute or two. Brush lightly, and rinse. I have never had a problem removing road grime and brake dust. Cleans tires with a wire brush, and it removes all that crap too.
