View Full Version : Your Opinion on These Rims !
House_Of_Steel 02-06-2004, 03:22 PM I had this posted in the wrong spot ...... Sorry .....
I look at the XB Lava as a unique creature, being it is such a unique creature I am on the prowl for some rims .... I would really like to keep the factory tires ( P185/60R15 ) and purchase the rims ... I am looking at the following rims from American Racing, they are the Avenger Chrome 157 / 4 bolt / 100 ..... My question and concern is being we have Brake Drums on the back, I would like to find a rim that the center of such a rim will cover (hide) the brake drum ....
Maybe I am used to being old school, going years back with a 71 GTO .... ??
So what is your opinion, will these cover the back drums ? Any suggestions on some outrageous rims that will work ?
Thanks !
Here is a picture of the rim ...

randode 02-06-2004, 03:30 PM i think you will see the drums no matter what you get. :(
they honestly dont look that bad though. They are very small drums, and they are painted black.
MIKEY 02-06-2004, 03:31 PM honestly, I hate American Racing Rims... but if you would like to look at a great web site were you can pick your car, and then they will give you a lot of sets that will fit...www.superbuytires.com. Hope this will help. Plus people may laugh at you seeing you with such a nice car with 300.00 wheels. just my fidy cent worth
Subcompact Culture 02-06-2004, 03:38 PM I personally think they're ugly, but it doesn't matter what I think. If you like them, get 'em .
House_Of_Steel 02-06-2004, 03:39 PM I did not give it thought about the cost / these rims are cheap, 115.00 each .
I have been out of the car scene for many years, almost 20+ ....
I have no problem spending $$$$ on a decent set of rims and tires .... All I want to do is make sure that the back drums are hidden ..... That is all I ask ....
Do you have any recommendations ? I do not want to have to get the speedometer recalibrated .....
Thanks
*** The optional upgrade that Scion is offering are the 18x7.5 w/ P215/35R18s ***
I am able then to go and purchase any of the same style right, does the speedometer need recalibrated with that size ?
rbloedow 02-06-2004, 03:41 PM They remind me of the rims that came on the 1990-1996 Nissan 300zx :)

A style like this would cover the drum. Prolly heavy as hell though.

LOL--that's exactly what I was thinking this morning when I saw the post.

House_Of_Steel 02-06-2004, 04:44 PM OH CHIT ...... Chief, those are great ....... Any idea on cost ?? I tried the link posted above and the link is not working .....
TheRedBox 02-06-2004, 05:01 PM contact scionvan.
They are going to be pricey. that's all im saying. But if you serisously interested hell hook you up

what he said!
sithscripter 02-06-2004, 05:17 PM I think the wheels that Chief T. posted are Work Eurolines. Those give the xB both the classic "Chevy Astro" look and the contemporary Japanese look ... those would have been my first choice except for a "minor domestic disagreement" about them  Oh, yeah, and they cost a small fortune in 15" and a large fortune in 19".
Someone on this board was trying to sell a set of those a few weeks ago. Look at this thread under Private Party Classified:
http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5043
They may be available still. Shipping from California ain't cheap but it sure beats shipping from Japan!
dinkjs 02-06-2004, 05:17 PM I think someone should go with some old school Kreger rims on there xB hhahahaaa...like they used to put on Mustangs
MIKEY 02-06-2004, 05:29 PM Try superbuytires.com or wayneswheels.com bolth have a lot of sick stuff

its_ikon 02-07-2004, 12:10 AM i don't like the first rims posted. there a lot better ones to go with.

I agree after staring at them ... I wil continue the search and post my findings for a vote ......
House_Of_Steel 02-07-2004, 04:21 PM This is my final answer ..... 8)
I am going to go with ( 18x7.5 ) and use the P215R35.18 Tires !
The search begins ...... When I come to a few that are decent, I will post them here for a vote !
Chrome would be great, however the cost is a little steep, probably go with some type of a machined finish ....
how about the 18x8 axis evo tc's! those would be soo dope on the lava box. esp if you color matched the paintable lip.
CBSIMONSEZ 02-07-2004, 07:50 PM From one future rs1 owner to another, look at all the options out there. I have been to several sites and had " made up my mind " on several different wheels. Here are some sites to look at different sizes and styles.
www.tirerack.com
www.tires.com
This site will allow you to play with sizes and tires. This will tell you how off your speedo will be with different diameters.
http://www.saturnperformance.com/tech/tiresize/
Now i have another set in mind, from a dealer that i found on Ebay. A full set of 17's, mounted, ballanced, wheel lugs, and upgraded tires for $750; this includes shipping from Cali to NJ.

I am getting warmer !
Seems the KAZERA RIMS are fair priced at 239.00 each ... Is this a decent price, with tires 1362.87
superjeer 02-08-2004, 01:19 AM anyone have exp with www.motegiracing.com rims? I saw some I liked, but the other one next to it had a crappy finish. makes me scared to mail order a set.
Alter_Ego 02-11-2004, 05:22 AM I wouldn't put any wheels on my car that I could buy at Pep boys...... ex. Motegi, American Racing. I wonder how close the Kazera orange is? We sell Tire Rack wheels all the time and their warehouse is right by us so I've seen them in there. I think they are bit bright of an orange, almost neon compared to the xb though. Wouldn't match up very well I don't think.

If you want to match the lava color have it custom done. You wont find one thats the right orange. Unless someone is doing something special, but I dont even know if anyone has the paintcode yet
House_Of_Steel 02-11-2004, 11:10 AM I have eliminated matching the color - I think it will be way to orange
I posted anouther thread with 10 different rims, call me Old School, but for some reason I tend to lean toward chrome ....... I am an old timer of 40 years and I am just not in the swing of things with these import cars and such .......
However, I have got bitten by the bug and I am really getting into all this, it is a great sport and hobby !
Spokes look decent but I want to be different, something that attracts attention, I know the car and the orange paint will create stares, but my whole intention is to get the Hot Lava, keep it in the garage, do some minor improvements: Tires/Rims, Some additional chrome work to the undercarriage, send out the rear brake drums and front calibers and have them powder coated to match the color of the box, do some minor improvemnets to the engine, braided lines and such and hopefully add a decent in dash LCD Screen ..... I do not plan on driving her much, would like to take it around locally to the shows and such and after a year then really get some driving time done. Also, providing the cash flow is still happening, wanted to send it out to have some airbrush work down ....
I hope that makes sense, it is such a great vehicle with alot of options that can be done, all I want to do is to do it right !
HotBox 02-11-2004, 11:49 AM id say get the one that M@ has on his car i believe theyre euroline NS that are they shyt those will also covered the drum and look bad freakin ___
House_Of_Steel 02-11-2004, 03:47 PM Not sure who M@ is ?
Would you happen to have a pic ?

I have a set of motegi MRM in black 18x7.5. They run great. Super light wheels. Just wished they have a smaller offset
215scion 02-11-2004, 04:59 PM i have 18" velocity wheels on my toaster!

House_Of_Steel 02-11-2004, 10:26 PM That is sweet ..... Very nice !!
Did you lower the box ? or is it stock ?
My question - Being you already have rims and tires and you probably will know this answer ...
If I go with the 17x7.5 rims with the 215/40/17 - will this fill the wheel wells nicely ? I would hate to have such a huge gap from teh top og the tire to the bottom of the well .... I hope I explained it right ....
There are just so many options, it is mind boggling ..... I am leaning toward staying away froma spoke style rim and going with a Help Spec, but not sure if that will be overkill on the Lava ?
DUSHONI 02-11-2004, 11:06 PM Dude these look sweet:
http://www.ultrawheel.com/images/rims/F-5_C.jpg
SCI_FIRE 02-12-2004, 01:58 AM I like these ones the best out of what you have posted. The design will make the wheels look bigger, too, because the spokes go to the outside of the rim instead of to the inside.

I've always liked this rim and i think it would look very nice on a lava. I have the 215/35/18's and there is no recalibration needed. they are actually the same size diameter as the stock rims& tires!

House_Of_Steel 02-12-2004, 03:03 AM AWESOME - Thanks for the feedback and pics - of the White XB above, what rims are they ? Very sharp !
I also started anouther thread a few days ago that have 10 rims posted, can you guys give me your opinion ... Which ones will be the best for the Lava ....
THANKS !!!
TSiAWD 02-28-2004, 10:08 AM Thinking of diablo 007s myself
Looking for something with a very clean, straight, and simple wheel design to emphasis the clean design of the Box.
I am going to stay with the 17" sizes as tires are relatively inexpensive and so are the rims.
I thought about staying with 15" also, but by the time I spend 600- 700 $ on nice 15's or the Euro 15"s from Cabe, I might as well lay down the other few hundred and get 17's with tires.
Personally I am going for the "could have been stock" look, as I do not want my Lava looking gaudy. The paint will be attention grabbing enough, don't need "blinging wheels" so I am leaning more towards silver than chrome.
If you lived in FL or CA near the ocean then chromes would make sense as they are more resistant to corrosion.
If you are into old school, have you thought about Panasports? or some similar design? Had a set on my MGB, real ones, and they were great!
just my .02
