View Full Version : 2011 AWD xB kaiheitai29 10-09-2010, 12:28 AM We have done it! Kai Hei Tai Performance has built an AWD Scion xB2. Check it out at Scion's www.battleofthebuilds.com (http://www.battleofthebuilds.com) website. Mike oreoremix42 10-09-2010, 04:02 AM Congrats. By chance will you have a kit going for it hahaha? Big_Bird 10-09-2010, 04:52 AM Not going to lie, those other designs look atrocious. I like yours, but am saving my full judgement for the final product. Good Luck. KillerXBee 10-09-2010, 05:25 AM coolbeans to all! kaiheitai29 10-09-2010, 03:28 PM Unfortunately we will not have a kit. All three of the teams in the competition are active duty service members. In order to make it work we had to do a lot of fabrication for the rear drive axle. We have learned a lot about what works and what doesn't. If you look at "BOTB The Final Round" tab you will find Sapper's and Salty Dog's final products. I just submitted our final product last night for the blog so it should be looked at and posted in the next day or so. Mike LtBradleykins 10-09-2010, 04:21 PM All you guys have done some incredible things so far, but I am really curious to see the AWD xB! Shea_Mc 10-09-2010, 11:02 PM That thing looks bad ___. It probably gave yall something to do out there in 29 palms. I used to live out there and my parents still do so i know there aint much. Yall came a long way. kaiheitai29 10-10-2010, 04:17 PM Here's a sneak preview. http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae332/lamar95x4/BOTB/th_IMG_0106-1.jpg (http://s985.photobucket.com/albums/ae332/lamar95x4/BOTB/?action=view¤t=IMG_0106-1.jpg) http://i985.photobucket.com/albums/ae332/lamar95x4/BOTB/th_IMG_0109-1.jpg (http://s985.photobucket.com/albums/ae332/lamar95x4/BOTB/?action=view¤t=IMG_0109-1.jpg) Big_Bird 10-10-2010, 05:16 PM Now that's cool! Is it fully operational? Full 4wd? LtBradleykins 10-10-2010, 05:31 PM BAD ARSE!!!! Oh how much trouble I would get into with that! LOL beandip007 10-10-2010, 05:51 PM MOTHER OF GOD! I would totally rock that!!!! 4x4 FTW! You guys go rock crawling with it yet? I see you got the rocker bars for that. SLO-BOX 10-10-2010, 07:05 PM I could totally use this as I'm working at 9600' in elevation in CO this winter for the first time since I've owned my xB- Shes used to the central Cali coast, not snow covered roads! Time to put my stock springs back on and find some good snow tires(maybe even studs too!) snoplow 10-11-2010, 12:49 AM someone buy me this for christmas I promise I've been good:lalala: Greg S 10-11-2010, 02:58 AM That is bad ___ and actually makes the new '11 larger bumpers look good. Got to hand it to you guys, that was a lot of work and it came out killer. Mdiesel64 10-11-2010, 07:21 AM Wow. Big ups to that, that looks so nice! kaiheitai29 10-11-2010, 03:48 PM Now that's cool! Is it fully operational? Full 4wd? It is. We had to have a custom driveline made to get the power to the rear but it is truely All Wheel Drive. Mike jntjohnson 10-11-2010, 07:42 PM Hey Guys! AMAZING BUILD!!!!! I am on the Salty Dogs team. That beast is AWESOME!!!!!!!! I have to say that i loved the head liner too!! That was the cherry on top! jntjohnson 10-11-2010, 07:44 PM The one thing i love best is that I own a 2011 xB, and now I know what can be done to it! Again, VERY COOL BUILD!!! I know how you feel, I hated to see the squid go, and i know you must feel the same. madmarx 10-12-2010, 04:58 AM Nice! Did the transfer case and rear axle come from another toyota? kaiheitai29 10-14-2010, 01:53 AM A big part of our concept was to keep our Assault in the Toyota family. We sourced all of our AWD parts except for our driveshaft from Toyota vehicles. Toyota of the Desert's Parts manager was huge in helping us figuring out what "should and shouldn't" work. We spent a huge amount of the first few weeks of the build focused on researching the AWD. The 2" lift is for a FJ Cruiser and most of the AWD parts come from different models of RAV4 and Matrix. If money were not capped as it was we wouldn't have had to fabricate as much as we did but it was a really cool experience and a tremendous opportunity afforded to us by Scion. jntjohnson, I have to say I'm really impressed with how your portholes and paint came out. Very clean job Shipmates! Mike L. Sciond 10-14-2010, 02:35 AM very nice build Rob_DESCENDANT 10-18-2010, 05:14 AM The 2nd DESCENDANT turbocharged AWD Scion!! :icon_biggrin: http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k37/fabworx/29palms.jpg & http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k37/fabworx/turbo29palms.jpg Domo 10-18-2010, 05:48 AM wow cool KaneoheKoa 10-20-2010, 09:32 AM I may be showing my age, but it really reminds me of the old Land Rovers, of African safari fame back in the 60's. Really great build guys! It's good to see a car company support our troops. I'd say once those guys (and women too) get out, Scion needs to have them on the design team. kaiheitai29 10-21-2010, 03:13 PM Thank you. We really wanted our xB Assault to be a ruggedized off-road version and I can't think of any other vehicle that personifies that more than the old Land Rovers aside from the Jeep. creamyxb2 10-22-2010, 01:14 PM there all wheel drive in japan.im like 98% sure. creamyxb2 10-22-2010, 01:15 PM oh and nice job. im down with the jurassic park feel. kaiheitai29 10-23-2010, 04:16 PM there all wheel drive in japan.im like 98% sure. Yes they do offer an AWD version in Japan. A couple of the team members have family on main land and Okinawa. We tried to source the rear drive from Japan but got shut down when our congress demanded that the Toyota's president, Mr. Akio Toyoda, appear before them this summer. There was also hefty import taxes so we just went with stateside parts we could source. Mike LtBradleykins 10-23-2010, 08:47 PM I have to say that I am impressed with all the builds... It's cool that all three teams came up with such different ideas for their builds and they ALL came out amazing! Love the all wheel drive, would love to take that off road! I love the body fabrication of the saltydogs, and the paint job on that was brilliant (love sailor jerry style artwork so that totally made me drool), and the topless cruiser had such a Floridian contemporary/retro feel with all the lights and redone interior... Props to ALL of you! And even more props for being supportive of eachothers teams! On top of all that, thank you all for keeping our country safe! My thoughts are with all of you! |
