Soon2BxB 03-05-2005, 01:15 AM Was talking to a friend about rims and what not ...

whos got em .. what drop are you running .. what size tires ...

thanx
TurboMe 03-05-2005, 01:41 AM are u talking about the tC or xB? if ur talking about the xB... y dont u post this in the xB section?
Soon2BxB 03-05-2005, 01:43 AM i am talking about the xb
and i posted this in the WHEELS forum .. which is exactly what this is .. a WHEELS post...
i figure more people will view it here and this is where it should be ... im sure some TC people like the xb and prolly have some pics of them as well
so everyone can contribute if they like
TurboMe 03-05-2005, 01:48 AM hmm 15" kinda small? I would go with something bigger. :D
Soon2BxB 03-05-2005, 01:51 AM yeah i agree - im just curious to see what it looks like.. i mean i think 17-18" is perfect .. but im sure some people like the smaller wheels...
im wondering .. can it be pulled off and still look hot
GloriousMidget 03-05-2005, 02:15 AM I have tein s-techs (lower 1.7") and 15" gunmetal motegi mr-7 wheels.

TurboMe 03-05-2005, 05:23 PM go bigger honestly, smaller the rims the thicker the tire. And to me that looks plain ugly.
msnlnx 03-05-2005, 07:05 PM I have Pacer rims and Kumo P195/60R15's. I drive up to 250 miles a day and just didn't like the ride you get from the 18 and 19 inch rims. I think the combination I have actually made for a better riding and handling car. [/img]
TurboMe 03-05-2005, 07:16 PM well thats for sure! haha I think im going to keep my stock rims. I thought about changing them out before I got my tC. But now they look hot in person!
BoxCarWillie 03-09-2005, 07:24 PM I saw BLeek's camo xB the other day. IIRC, he's running tein s-tech springs (-1.7 in.) and has the OEM wheels/hubcaps/tires on for the winter. It looked much better than with stock ride height.
I think a nice set of 15s would be fine...lowering the car an inch or two makes all the visual difference in the world!!! Increased rim diameter is just icing on the cake.
unlmtdndeavor 03-09-2005, 07:52 PM this is mine about a year ago. 195/55/15? i think.

teamkasnomas 03-09-2005, 11:07 PM I think these are the 15" revolutions on Dunlops that Mac'N Cheese (?) was running and then selling late last year for the smokin' deal of $700: http://www.scionlife.com/xb/wp3_800.jpg (Apologies if I'm wrong; they look similar). Anyway, deep dish 15s are sweet looking if you ask me. I had 17s on 215/45s, but they rubbed occassionally. Also, bigger is heavier. Now that I am back on stock 15s I get the occasional second gear chirp. Reason enuf to stay small. Better ride, too. But I agree that no matter what size, a drop helps tons in the looks dept.
Skaterjoes 03-09-2005, 11:25 PM I had 17's w/ a 45 side wall, lowered on tanabe df210's (2 inch drop) and the ride was horrible, handleing suffered and acceleration was diminished. I went to a 15 w/ a 50 sidewall and I love it! I think coil overs would improve the looks a bit, but other than that I am very happy. Ipersonnally think that my car looked better w/ 17's but the ride was just too much to take every day.

teamkasnomas 03-10-2005, 10:52 PM NICE! This is the best lookin' wheel setup I have seen yet on an xB, and one of the best on any car, period. It's pretty much perfect IMO. (In otherwords, lemme know if you ever decide to sell again...)
EastTNScionxB 03-10-2005, 11:08 PM I am not rolling a drop....but I am on 15s....these are the EM-7 Spoke Scion rims. The same ones you see in the commercials. The tires are stock Goodyear's I think they are 215/60/15 Definitely for sales though. Take a look! I would like to sell them ASAP! $500 SHIPPED! Thanks!

Big_Boy_Phil 03-11-2005, 12:00 AM macncheese - That is a great looking set up. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of rims are those? What is your tire size? lastly, what springs are you using?
again, that looks great.

lonewolfxb 03-11-2005, 12:25 AM I am running factory 15,s and Tein S-Techs and they work for me. To hell with 18,s and the rubberband tires. I like tha ride. Also I aint had to buy a new rim or tire yet. Just my 2 cents.

When was that picture taken? I moved from Brick to Texas bout 5 years ago. I read that the Palace Amusements had been torn down and the "Tillie" face had been cut out and saved.

katchkillah 03-11-2005, 09:36 AM i was thinking about staying either 15" or 16" ssr glucks, but i wasn't clearing alot of places mostly drive ways. i was on the stock alloys with tein s-techs. so i had to go a little bigger and ended up going with some 17's. but i'm still debating about ordering some 15's or 16's to keep for carshow purposes. i just loved how low (bottom of the body kits) would sit without doing the airbag option.

Is that a picture of it at stock height? I thought the Goldlines cleaned up a lot more of the wheel gap than that... maybe it's just the angle.

maybe its because of the 50 series tire .. vs the oem which is a 65 series

fsr20det 04-07-2005, 10:30 AM man, i think its dope how old school rims are making a comeback. i wish some of the replicas they made came with a real polished lip and not that machined crap. man i remember when they were still selling the ssr type-x's and i hated them. i have more respect for them now, but i don't know if i would rock em, hmmmm......yah, i would for the old school pimpness....lol

Thanks Ugly Duck, but pm who? I thought uberXB said he was reposting a previously posted pic. Anybody know whose ride this is? I'd love to know the specifics. Found the cups on tunershop.com thanks to j-so's tip, and they run about $200-300/per. Not bad, but anybody knows a cheaper place to source them, please lemme know. Super.

That xA you mentioned is most likely mine. It's not gunmetal though, it is charcoal grey. The gunmetal finish is a little bit darker. I was going to get red with red lip at first but then i decided to go with another color because i knew i would get sick of the red lip after a couple months. I still like that color combination, don't get me wrong. I had black rims back then on my xA so i wanted to go another route.

It's based on the percentage of posts you have in relation to the average number of posts the top 5 have or something like that. To give you an idea.. I'm #14 on the "too many damn posts" lists and my bar is only 75% full even with over 2K posts that haven't been deleted. The only way to get it full is to be in the top 5, with like 4K (undeleted) posts.

2tone_xB 05-01-2005, 01:43 AM Well I'm still confuzzled about rim size/choice.
Thinking about the bBist wheel (18x7.5, 18x8.5) or
forged Racing Hart's, 15inch.
Here's a pic of my friend's xB with the RH's. Reason why I'm iffy is the price.
He offered me $1,200 for the rims/tires, but that's pretty pricey.
And the bBist wheel is $800 altogether, + tires.
Help!
I just want that 'JDM'ish look, but don't want any rubbing probs since I have TEIN S-Techs.

Soon2BxB 05-01-2005, 07:01 AM arent you guys glad i started this thread :)
ill give you my insight to big vs small wheels
i recently was rolling motegi ff7 in 18" with a 215 40 18 tire
a few things i liked about the setup
pimp looking
absolitely 0 wheel gap
things i didnt like
harsher ride
made the car not look as slammed as it does on 15s
slower acceleration from the added weight
im back on 15s again .. im using the 6 spoke xA rims i got from back in black xA and the ride is like a dream
im def sticking with 15s .. im dropped on goldlines and with 15s .. even with stock tires.. the car looks SLAMMED
i still do like the tuck look that the 18s give
here is a pic of the wheels im rocking now - ill get a pic of em on the box once the rain stops

nice work. you read my mind. after learning that the ats cups may require trimming the caliper or something like that, my interest has waned and i started thinking along these lines...so, how did you paint these? spray, brush? what kind of paint? how about a little DIY-guide? looks great with the drop. clean and original.
DGTLLVR 05-02-2005, 11:08 PM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v381/hankxb/DSCN2795.jpg
Is that yours Hank?! HOLY MOLY that looks tight. Where you been man? I gotta get up to Dallas again soon.
DGTLLVR 05-02-2005, 11:20 PM nice work. you read my mind. after learning that the ats cups may require trimming the caliper or something like that, my interest has waned and i started thinking along these lines...so, how did you paint these? spray, brush? what kind of paint? how about a little DIY-guide? looks great with the drop. clean and original.
Wash and scrub your rims. Use dish detergent, it removes oil and wax from painted surfaces (not good for your car paint, but good for surfaces your really need clean). When they dry off, wipe them down one last time with a dry paper towel. Mask off the tires as best you can, cover the entire edge of the tire, past the tread.
Then paint slowly with a rattle can. First two coats shouldn't even leave the rim red, it should still be black with redish color on it. The third fourth and fifth coat will cover it in a real deep red. Make sure to let the paint tack up (dry slightly) for about 15 mins per coat. Anything past the fifth coat is purely to even it all out and get any spots you missed.
If you've never used a spray can before, go buy something really oddly shaped and test your skills first. Learn how to not get drips or orange peel. Eventually you'll get the hang of it.
It only took me 2 cans of paint to cover all 4 rims. Make sure you use a high temp engine paint. My stock rims with the EBC GreenStuff brake pads up front get so hot they would make regular paint burn off. Literally fire would ensue the first time I came to a harsh stop... so use a high temp paint. I used Chyrsler Industrial Red because it's truely old school. It's not a deep red, but more of an orangish red. Really works well, but feel free to use any color you like. There are a ton of colors that would looke pretty cool depending on the color of your car.
The chrome trim rings were like $10 each, and were standard trim rings for a 15" rim.
Don't expect the paint job to turn out perfectly, if you want perfect go get yer rims sand blasted and powder coated. But I did this on a whim, my 19's were going bald slowly, and I needed to do something. My factory rims/tires were still coated in mud from the last time I went mudding, so I had to wash them off anyway. I didn't like the factory hubcaps, so I came up with this.
DGTLLVR 05-02-2005, 11:23 PM Oh and just so you know I wasn't BSing about the mudding in a lowered xB....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/dgtllvr/DSC00004_1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/dgtllvr/DSC00001_1.jpg
I put the 19's on after mudding because the mud caused the stock rims to go WAY out of balance and I couldn't drive more than 65mph. I left it muddy for like 3 days, then it rained.
teamkasnomas 05-02-2005, 11:54 PM thanks, man! great info that i will be happy to put to good use. (also well done on the mudding...next time just clear coat it so the rain can't take away your hard-earned dirt badge.)

DisneybB 05-05-2005, 11:57 AM Yeah, they are the wheels the PT Cruiser crowd puts on. But they would be different in a sea jdm look alikes. Check the weight on those, I recall they are heavy! Yes I thought about those myself (had a PT Cruiser years back)
Rock those 15's!!!!
ugly_duck 05-05-2005, 07:40 PM I posted I had these, but did not have a way to post the pics...but now I do.
Here we go:

And, while I am thinking about it, here is what I am thinking of getting soon... what do you think? (It's not my Box in the 'photo' but it's close...)

Those are some pretty red x's
Hey i have red x's onmy car. copy cat jk
TJandBOXCARWILLIE 05-05-2005, 09:18 PM The red x is gone. Seems that PHOTO BUCKET, of which I pay for, had issues today (05.05.05) so if you hold down your shift key, and then hit reload (it worked for me on the right button), then it should come back...
ugly_duck 05-05-2005, 09:59 PM thanks just giving you a hard time. mad love for the 15" crew

SUPASCIONXB 05-06-2005, 01:25 PM Well I did it! Took the 18's of and slaped the Mx5 wheels back on. Got some new Falken ZE512 skins to wrap em with and gave em a fresh coat of paint. Tire size is 195/60/14 Same height as the stock 15' set up. The weight diffrence was crazy. The 18's where 45 pounds each, these little guys are only 33 pounds each Light weight baby !!!!!

TJandBOXCARWILLIE 05-07-2005, 02:58 AM can we 16"ers join?Yes, I say... since the 16" is not any different from the 15" when it comes to the overall diameter of the wheel...said TJ with a cryptic voice, the kind of voice that perhaps is meant to convey that he may have put 16"s on his Box...Maybe with new tires...
:lalala:
Oh, yes...oh, how sweet they are...
FrankenScion 05-07-2005, 03:00 AM I'm still trying to get the Tenzo R Morphix. I didn't know they were discontinued a year ago and I let the damn auction on eBay expire. Now I'm waiting for the guy to relist them.
TJandBOXCARWILLIE 05-07-2005, 05:29 AM The rims I just got, are not real, so it seems. As in, they are discontinued as well. I can't find a pic to show...and untill I get a camera (mine got ripped off)...
But I'm looking.

FrankenScion 05-07-2005, 12:16 PM How much of a drop do you have? I was worried that if I got 50's there would be a big fender gap. I have a 2" Goldline drop.
I was thinking I would go with 205 55/R15's.
ScionEVO_xB 05-07-2005, 04:33 PM I've got a 2.5 inch drop made by B and G springs.

I rocked tenzo morphix on my xA for like 7-8 months maybe, then I sold them to my xB homie for $125.

Maybe a club should be named the non-conformist scion club.
SUPASCIONXB 05-08-2005, 02:56 AM That looks good with the rotas , as far as needing to settle a little more, I dont think it will that much Im running the h tech also and from your pics your box sits right about the same way mine does and Ive had the teins in for about 6 months. Looks good though.

Thanks. It looks a ton better than it did, that's for sure. Rides well. I'm happy. Can't make the ride too harsh or drop too much - wife will freak out. Some of you know how it is. :lalala:
SUPASCIONXB 05-08-2005, 03:05 AM yup I know all about that. Thats why I had to take the tanabe df210's out the ride was way to bouncy for the pregnant wife.
ScoobyVan 05-08-2005, 03:24 AM The Rotas look sweet Tex...
Where did you get them...and if you don't mind my asking, for how much?
Are they 15 x 7? Did you stay on the stock rubber?

Texodore 05-08-2005, 12:09 PM Local Discount Tire. Call to make sure, but they can order stuff that's not on the website.
ugly_duck 05-08-2005, 09:13 PM Work=Uber sexy=Uber pricey
uncompiled 05-09-2005, 04:23 PM I think the lip makes the wheel look a lot bigger too... there's something about the reflection off a polished lip that makes it look huge.
LavabB 05-09-2005, 04:55 PM Great thread~!
Thinking about these
http://www.motegiracing.com/wheels/details.asp?parent=52&wheelid=53&name=TRAK_LITE%202%20Glossy%20Black&style=2318&desc=
Thats a 17", the 15's are sick... +35. forged, under 10lbs each, not that it matters really.
BTW, those red painted stocks are friggin awsome! Can't believe there stocks.

SUPASCIONXB 05-09-2005, 05:10 PM nice looking wheel, I assume you will being going with the black wheel on the lava box.
uncompiled 05-09-2005, 08:28 PM Wow, those Trak Lite 2s look nice. I'm partial to a 5 spoke design, but the flat black of the original Trak Lite is kinda ugly (in my opinion).
ugly_duck 05-09-2005, 09:53 PM trak lites are pricey arent they for Motegi?
ugly_duck 05-11-2005, 09:57 PM someone should stickey this thread.

I agree, but they're forged. As well as some of the ro_ja wheels. This thread should be stickied. Perhaps I will copy all the images and create a dropped on 15s website too. :P
KevinxB 05-12-2005, 01:44 AM ^ Then you'd have to sell your wheels and get 15s!

FrankenScion 05-17-2005, 12:01 PM Personally I think they ride better than stock.
scionspecialistvegas 05-17-2005, 06:23 PM I agree with frankenscion, the ride is smoother not as bouncey.

ugly_duck 05-19-2005, 02:51 PM word, they are uber ugly Rota has some fake looking cf caps that will fit. not sure how the fake cf will mesh witht the black though
FrankenScion 05-19-2005, 03:36 PM I saw those on ebay, but they didn't say if they would fit the Auto X'es. I'm not into CF, but they are flat so I could probably paint them. I saw some Toyota caps the are the right size, I might buy them and paint them black.
