Just wanted to get these online... we are having fun at the Autorama Extreme event. We are the only 4 Scions in the house but we are representing strong with the RS1.0 xB and xA. I will post more pics of the rest of the event in the Midwest regional board and on Scion Evolution.

How's it going, Hugh? How's the turnout at the Autorama? This is Terrence, by the way. Thanks for posting the picks of the Taillights, you know I've been waiting for those for a long time. I cant say I'm exactly impressed with them, but I'm going to reserve judgment until I see them in person. I could see them growing on me.

I think the bottom part should be all red. The turn signal should be in a clear housing with an amber bulb (or at least make it signal in amber).

i think i should explain again... better yet when i get back to the show i will post some more pics of the lights in reverse and with the brake engaged so you can see them right. All of those small lights on the bottom outer portion light up bright as hell is RED so it looks fine. and the top yellow is on when you hit the keyless. Stay tuned because i wont be back to the until tomorrow and the pics won't be up until that night so keep your pants on. Remember these are pre-production and there might be differences in the EXACT appearance but this is what was sent and i'm backing it. They looked a littly bit much at first but the more and more i see them they look sweet. I am however glad there is a poll here because it is nice to see what the community thinks...that is really what matters.

since when is mugen considered rice? they are the top leading performance company in japan. and mugen don't make ugly ___ tails like that for their cars. they don't make tails period.

if they made the amber park look like the bottom and make the reflector a little bit smaller...it wouldn't really look that bad an a super white. but then again if they do make that in for the 06 tC I will be happy to call my taillights limited edition! :wink:

Wow. It looks like they ripped off five different other makes of cars, and shoved all their tail lenses into one assembly. It worked for the entire tC, but not for the tail lens... It's just to busy. Looks cheap.

I'm hoping the top housing isn't actually yellow and it's just the bulb reflecting like crazy.

It looks like they strung some of those giant christmas lights on the bottom. I wouldnt even put those things in a pinto.

Well the only thing I see that is similar to the camry is the over all placement of the lights and its good to know that this isn't the final design of the lights so there is hope. I'm thinking given enough time there will be better designs and eventually TYC will get it right. Just so I don't sound so negative, I do like the Led idea.

it's not a matter of if you care about other companies. it's a matter of at least show some respect. i do not know anything about german companies but i know who they are and i will never compare them to APC or any other low end company. each country has their own top end companies and mugen is one of the top ones in japan.

I wish that there was some sort of online message board that the TYC Design guys would monitor. That way we could explain what it is that we are looking for in the new generations of Tail lights. That way the design team could come up with 3 or 4 designs and draw up a moc, sorry if I spelled that incorectly, picture and then take a vote on the best 2. Then finally mass produce the 2 different designs. Oh and for the record Altezza lights are not in the running for a design. We know that a few people will wind up placing these Euro styled :rofl: lights on their vehicles.

Seriously, marketing gurus always talk about focus groups and such (look at a couple episodes of The Apprentice to see that). ScionLife forums is an excellent place for designers to get feedback, especially since we can be quite tempermental about our designs (I'm picky).

Having 3-4 mock up designs is a great idea, and if not TYC, hopefully someone will do something like that for another pair of taillights

i agree on what you said about how they should get feedback on forums such as these. i'm pretty sure other companies will make aftermarket tails and headlights for the tc in the near future. expecially since the tc is one of the hottest cars to get right now. most likely altezza will make aftermarket tails for the tc. and they prolly will look uglier than the ones posted on this thread.

The bottom section that you made red IS red. When you press the brake, that turns red... bright as hell too... The amber section stays amber though for the turn signals and the inner portion of the bottom is the back-up light... needs to stay white.

frankly if I'm steppin my brakes... the guy in back should be paying attention not admiring how my lights look lit up...

That definately looks like some last-minute, thrown together design. I really hope TYC didn't spend more than 5 or 10 minutes designing that crap. That red reflector thing in between the clear and the amber (more like yellow) is REALLY bothering me.

Yeah those revised ones are ok. I bet they look better on the darker colors verses the lighter ones.
On my AP I am not sure how they would look compared to stock.
Yes they should take our comments seriously since we are the market they are focusing on.
I would still like something a bit different. I like camry lights but again, not sure it is what I want on my tC.

anyways does Tyc have any plans on any other taillights...i mean these are great. they have the 03+ eclipse feel..the red and amber...

although i think the taillights themselves look nice, for some reason they look really awkward and ugly on the tc. the psed tails with cleared top and red bottom looks good and i would get them, the problem with those is the reverse light needs to be cleared.

While I like the stock ones and think they look good as well.......these TYCs could have been designed to look better, but at the same time they do blend in well with the clear 3rd brake light and front headlights.

While looking at the lights themselves, they are whack.

While taking a step back and looking at the whole car, they blend pretty well with the rest of it.

Ok, here is what I like about the lights. I do like both of the Photoshoped pictures that Darkness submitted I think either would be nice but also include the option of the Smoked lenses. I was also wondering since LEDs are already part of the design does anyone think that by making all of the lights/light sources LEDs is too busy or crowded?

Agreed wit what he said. The red reflector looks better when its cut out like that and clear on the one end. I Definatly dont think the Amber turn signal is attractive at all.. Their red right now. Shoulda stayed that way

I dont' like them. They should be darker, and the amber has to go. Maybe claer or smoke with a chrome bulb that lights amber. And I dont' like the red stripe either. He is right. It is the Lexus RX 330. which replaces the RX 300. I worked for Lexus.. The lights are ALL CLEAR!!

And also. They dont have to make that clear part a reflector. It can just be clear like the rest of the tail light. Doesnt have to have a bulb there or reflector. They can simply have the red part the reflector ( which I think he intented to chop it that way)

its not even ricey. a ricey taillight woulda looked better. all that needs to be said about these tails have already been said in this thread

Keep it mostly red with clear signals like the BMW 7-series or all red like the Infiniti G35. Stay away from any Altezza/Lexus looking lights!

The color set-up looks okay, but the lenses look like they're lined with bubble wrap...

They woulda looked sweet to if they woulda put red led for the turn signals also. You cant just justify the color of them light.

Personally that tail light assembly is a downgrade in style by far ( still wanna see a red turn signal bulb either in there or photchoped) The upgrade is the led parking/brake light. however. as much as i want led tails. Im not gonna sacafice the look.

Lets all sit back and think about it for a minute. Can we give this set of tails another chance? If we mod it ourselves. what if we put/bought a set of RED led turn signal bulbs? That would make the tail all led cept for revers (which could be added) And would elimante the ugliness of the amber bulb in there now. Would make the lense look red and clear... Just another thought to see what we can get outta these tails one last time

Uhmmm, motozsen.... :ponder: TYC didn't start this thread or the poll, detroitscion did. They are the #1 scion dealership here in Michigan and because they are #1 they get the pre-prodution samples of these products before anybody else.

1. Why the signal is amber not red - Southern states (like TX) states it must be amber and can't be red after 2002 for toyota. (i might be wrong for the year I'll have to check the office). So to be able to sell to all of north america this was the choice by Toyota (not TYC).

2. Why it isn't all clear - It's illegal to have clear tails. Must have reflector, hence the red reflector. Clear, or white reflectors are 100% illegal, no if ands or buts. Yellow/amber reflectors are only allowed for front lamps, or front side markers.

3. why the led's aren't red - they are red when you step on the brakes, or turn on the parking lights. They just don't look red when you look at them. They use little chrome reflectors to direct the light. The whole lens is clear so hence the chrome look, and not red.

Like it or not, that's the TL for your TC. Maybe you don't like it now, but maybe you'll like them when they are on your car. It's a nice lamp, and nicely made (compared to previous lamps we made). Reason is that Toyota is very particular on the designs, and Toyota big wigs chooses the designs. The design ques came from the prius.

Then put a 'stick on clear amber tape' on the parts that are clear and we can take it off when we get them and use chrome/amber bulbs... hehe

The RX400. close enough of being clear. I've seen plenty of aftermarked tails for the RX300 and other brands that are pretty clear without the amber....

i'm not going to argue this question...cause it's pointless...but look at the bumper...the reflector is there.

So can paying potential customers. Which one is more important? :eyebrow: Customers can be singleminded. Vendors can't afford to be.

I have serveral successful businesses and let me assure you, if I gave my .02 on the times I had to bite my tongue I would not be making any money.

You have to listen to the crowd your selling too and less time preaching if you want to become successful. You can have 50000 venders that will carry your junk, but that doesn't mean you are going to sell anything or that you won't have 50000 venders ____ed at you because they have unmovable crap. You have 144 people here that are waiting on a different design.... I bet atleast half will buy something other then these lights shown.

If you post a concept up, be prepared for both sides of the coin and thank God that it is still a concept that can be worked with....

You have to listen to the crowd your selling too and less time preaching if you want to become successful. You can have 50000 venders that will carry your junk, but that doesn't mean you are going to sell anything or that you won't have 50000 venders ____ed at you because they have unmovable crap. You have 144 people here that are waiting on a different design.... I bet atleast half will buy something other then these lights shown.

If you post a concept up, be prepared for both sides of the coin and thank God that it is still a concept that can be worked with....

I understand you. IMHO TYC makes some nice lights, and we can't please everybody. Toyota is buying these lights, and they will put them on at the port on a % of the cars, so like the lights or not they will sell. I'm just being honest.

I personally like the LED design, and it's actually a innovation since there are a lot of loop holes to deal with when making LED aftermarket tails. One of the reasons is the voltage needed, and we wouldn't be able to do it without Toyota's help.

As for pleasing the customer, your right, the customer is always right. So Toyota....thank you for buying TYC lights.

Now if you want to complain about the design, complain to Toyota, since they are the whole motivation on this. You do have to understand that the ones choosing your aftermarket parts are middle aged men that drive a lexus, or porsche. I know for a fact that Toyota isn't going to make another design since they put a lot of money into it.

I would recommend consulting another company for your designs if there is enough belief in that design. Companies such as Eagle Eye, Depo, and APC to name a few. I don't mind naming my competitors, since I know 100% that the quality of the lamp will be nothing close this TYC lamps (quality in leakage, potential damages, failer of lamp, chroming process, etc).

hello genious, acura is made from honda. i know there are aftermarket rice tails for my car. that doesn't mean that i'm gonna get them. i'm not the one in here stressing over the design on these tails or tails for the rsx.

Yes, It's not something I can do. I have been in the business for more then a few years, and I know there are a lot of haters, and lot of talk.

To end this arguement, TYC made something for Toyota, and it's now already in production. I can lie and say...we will work on it, but then that wouldn't make sense. i know Toyota will make back there $$$ with this, regardless of what everybody says here. I dunno how, but they will sell. I didn't like the Xb tails...they sell like hot cakes, the Xa lights I don't like...they also sell like hot cakes. Trust me, we only cater to less then 5% of the total car sells, and this will meet it. If everybody liked it...and it became mainsteam, it'll also lose the hold on the market. It's a long story and study we did, but Thanks for all your opinions.

Good luck to you Junkyard, seems like you're not a bad guy and I'm glad you at least can say that you may not like the tail lights (at least for the xa and xb), but they sell.

Hopefully you guys will have other products down the line soon, though, and perhaps you can persuade management to have a little focus group session with us, too.

i'm not planning on putting aftermarket tails on my ride, EVER. i prefer the clean OEM and JDM look. :bow: but what i'm saying about the tails is that there will be other designs out there. you will be able to find them at auto zone, pep boys, wal-mart, etc. for haf the price.

technically, if you put JDM parts on a U.S. spec car -- you ARE putting "aftermarket" parts on your car. JDM is often NOT "legal" in the U.S....mostly because a lot of JDM stuff doesn't have DOT approval.

but i understand the point you are trying to make. :D my first reaction to seeing the TYC tail lights was "OMG I'm blind!" i thought they were hideous. but as i look at them more, they grow on me some. plus, i have plans for my tC which might make these tail lights work nicely. dunno yet.

anyone know what the projected (or estimated) price on these suckers is gonna be? JDM Junkyard, do you know? I realize the final price may not be nailed down; I'm just wondering about a ballpark figure... THAT may also directly affect how well these things sell.

Its all personal preference. But i do think that the company should supply want the customer wants.. More costumers = more money.. Thats what your out for isnt it..

I just saw the TYC lights for the tC today at a regional meeting. I'm a little dissapointed-but i do like the direction they went with. Sorry-Iwas unable to get a picture so I'll just describe it the best I can-I tried running off with it but they got me pretty quickly.

Divide the current tailight into 3 vertically stacked sections. the top section has a clear lense area and then a quartered amber circle for the turn signal. The middle section is red, the lower section is divided into 2 sections. The most inboard 1/4 is for the back up light. The other 3/4's is a battery of LED's, i think stacked 3 or 4 LED's high and about 10 or so across. I know I mentioned this when we got the first pedestal spoiler-Sorry to disapoint this time-no pics. in a funny way it kinda looks like the tailights of the 05' camry.

I'll spill the rest of the beans about the tC updates I learned of in another thread.

They look pretty nice on that car. I really like the simplicity of the stock lights on the SW tC. It just looks so clean. Adding these to my car would look horrible... but nicer on the darker colors.

well.. you mean the other way around. the tiburon was out way before. the new cobalt and the new pontiac G6 do bear a striking similarity to the tC's rear as well.

MMMMMM. DUAL EXHAUST FROM FACTORY!!! Our cars have so much yet so little.. Other cars have much better options as far as the body goes and engine upgrades.. How we limited to 160hp from factory? No dual exhaust option from factory. You cant get the price of the supercharger added to your payments unless you buy it with it!! WTF.. If Ida known that I woulda said well add 3 grand to the price and call me when it comes in.. I think its unfair.

Anyway.. back to topic. Is there any new information bout a release date and price on these tails?

They look good and will look even better in person.

i might get them and then overlay the amber part in white or dark smoke. that way they'd only light up in amber, and the bottom of the lights look sick.

Well if anyone wants em, they are all over Ebay. They are going for about 275 a pair. The pictures on Ebay are a little bit better and show what these tails look like in a much better light, but I'm still not likeing em. TYC was so close and yet so far away...
