View Full Version : USB plug help Jwoodfin 10-11-2010, 06:48 PM When I bought my (used) xD in march the usb plug had been damaged and i was wondering if there was a way i could fix it or if i would have to take it to the dealership heres a pic of it mrwilson99 10-11-2010, 07:15 PM I am pretty sure someone is willing to sell that part off, as most move to aftermarket HU. Jwoodfin 10-11-2010, 07:19 PM would i just take the part and put it in that hole or would i need to take that face plate off. mrwilson99 10-11-2010, 08:16 PM I don't own an xD, but I would assume you would need to take the whole thing off to unplug the back and put new adapter in. Jwoodfin 10-11-2010, 08:19 PM Could i take it to a dealership to have them put a new one in? even though it will most likely be way to expansive. (like when i had to replace my key it cost me $200) mrwilson99 10-11-2010, 08:52 PM If you can spare another 200+ bucks then go for it. But this looks to me a very simple fix, look around and see who wants to part with their connector. And also, if you are thinking of keeping your stock HU forever...then yea is worth replacing. Most and I say most (like 70% +/-) peeps have aftermarket units, and those aftermarket units uses a different ipod connector. mrwilson99 10-11-2010, 08:53 PM Why don't you email trdsparks and see if they can find you that part? They are cheaper than buying from dealer. Buy the part, have tradsparks send you instructions on how to replace (usually in pdf format) and replace yourself! Jwoodfin 10-11-2010, 08:54 PM Ok sounds good thanks for your help cobaltbravo 10-12-2010, 12:56 AM Just thought id mention, that's not a usb port. Its scions proprietary designed ipod hook-up. There's a cord, sold by scion, that plugs into this socket, and then plugs into an ipod. Sent from my Droid Jwoodfin 10-12-2010, 04:24 AM Well thats good to know i though it was broken. So all i need to do is buy that cord? cobaltbravo 10-12-2010, 12:50 PM Yea. You can get it from scion for some outragous amount, or get one from ebay for 20$. Sent from my Droid JJGeneral1 10-12-2010, 01:16 PM Yes, as cobalt already pointed out, that's not a USB port. It's the "Scion Specialty" port for ipods. The cable is around $80 through the dealer/trd, but you can find one for 20 and up on ebay. How did anyone who has driven or seen a scion that is older than 2009 not know that was the ipod specialty port? JJGeneral1 10-12-2010, 01:16 PM Could i take it to a dealership to have them put a new one in? even though it will most likely be way to expansive. (like when i had to replace my key it cost me $200) Why so much? For the keyless entry system? You can get a copy of the key made at any shop for a few bucks. Our keys aren't chipped, and should not cost that much at all. cobaltbravo 10-12-2010, 03:20 PM Id guess mr wilson doesn't know anything about xds. Another tc owner who wanted to help but doesn't know about our cars. Acually, the tcs and xbs had the same port,so shame on you mr wilson for telling some new guy bad info. And about the keys; a plain key is cheap, but a programed key fob is expensive. Sent from my Droid nobigdeal 10-12-2010, 03:26 PM When I bought mine used a few months back, I found my cord at the bottom of the glove box, Had it not of been there , I would have made the dealer give me one, I would not pay for a missing piece that should have been supplied by the dealer. My dealer also certified the car, and if the car is certified I would argue why this was not noticed by them, if not certified, I would still try and make them give you one. The worst they can say is NO. NBD Jwoodfin 10-12-2010, 03:53 PM I didnt notice that thee port wasnt a usb port after i had left it just looked like maybe the face part of the port had been broken off somehow. Anyways thank you all for your help. I'll c if i can get one on ebay. |
