my power band seems too kick in at around 3K rpm :)

i'm glad they both seem to be helping each other on my some what budgeted power quest

i'm likin it a lot and a lot!!!

Can't go wrong with K&N.
Do those iridium plugs really make a difference?

Do those iridium plugs really make a difference?

from what i'm hearing, they say you'll gain 5 extra hp at the wheels on stock 4 cylinder

and 15 extra hp on F/I at the wheels

i'll let you know if they work or not...

i'm the kind of guy likes to feel the power in the seat of my pants

the only reason I didn't buy the TRD muffler was because I didn't know what it sounded like. Does it sound ricey or more american muscle car?

Not to argue or anything, but if plugs can get you up to 15hp, you should be able to pull around 8 to the wheels. I have my doubts the gains will be this high though by just swapping sparks. Maybe 3-5hp gain i'd say... Oh well, not trying to start anything with anyone! Good luck!

I really don't like high-pitched ricey pipes. I have the TRD pipe and I love it. It is not high-pitched at all. Sounds real nice.

Denso Iridium makes very little different. It does help a bit at > 3krpm. I've tried it.

it has a nice rumble sound when you get on the gas, and you can't really get that nice american V-8 sound out of a 4 cylinder not very easily i think,

"Gains of 5+ WHP can be seen on stock 4 cylinder engines, simply by switching from conventional spark plugs to Denso Irdium Power plugs. The horsepower gains can reach 15+ WHP on turbocharged race engines."

Forced induction or not, theres no way swaping sparks will give you 15whp, not for $15.00-$20.00. Using aftermarket sparks really just help the sparking. I mean, its not complex at all. Suppose to help with turn overs (starting engine) and the such. Plus its a good idea anyways when you are wanting to do major upgrades under the hood. But i have never seen just swaping sparks get you 15 to the wheels, i've never even heard of that. So i call B.S. on that site. It's still a good idea to do it man, but i disagree with the numbers they post.

Thats exactly what i was saying! If it were, we would have more Scion Xb/Xa's with 200hp.

Congrats on your new found power. 8)

From what I've read/learned, new plugs will only replenish lost hp.

Why is it lost? Wrong plugs, fouled plugs, worn plugs, etc etc.

But, using a quality plug should certainly help with a clean and efficient burn. So, if they're not too expensive, I don't think there's any harm. Plus, they look like they're super easy to access (easy to change).

thats right, no harm to have them. and yes, just pull the engine cover off, then pull unscrew the coil packs and pull out the plugs

quick question what kind of spark plugs come stock on an xa/b

I've posted this before, and I can't find the link now, but the
Porsche club did extensive testing on spark plugs and
performance on everything from $20,000 4 cylander Porsches
to $250,000 Twin Turbo 911, and they found that simple
$2 copper core plugs perform the best. The Iridium only
give you longer plug life, and for some reason the platinum hurt
the performance on *most* Porsches.

As stated above, most "performance" increase found in
plugs it's just from having fresh ones in there with the proper
gapping.

I did have good luck using Iridium plugs in a motorcycle a few years ago. I can't say that peak power was affected. Before I put the plugs in the bike had a flat spot around 5000 rpm {even with new standard plugs}, after I put the plugs in the flat spot was gone. Result was better rideability on that bike even if it wasn't really faster. I think it has something to do with the Iridiums being able to deal with lean mixtures better. If your car is tuned better than my bike was, you won't see much improvement, but why not give it a whirl?
