Hello. Been looking for a new car for awhile now. Drove the mustang, mazda 3, Koup SX, camaro, cooper s, fiesta (ouch), and a GTI.
A Scion dealer near me just got their first 2011 TC, I was the first to drive it, and ended up being the first 2011 TC that they sold.
I got a crimson 6-speed manual tranny. They are so new, that there are no TRD parts available yet, in fact very few options at all. I didn't get any options, but I did manage to get them to throw in the floor and cargo mats as part of the deal (I think they go for around 170.00). I also got a lifetime powertrain warranty free. I paid the standard price and 1/2 of their 699.00 dealer fees.
I really hated paying dealer fees, but where I live EVERY dealer has them. I have argued and argued, and even left a couple dealers on very poor terms http://www.scikotics.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif over the fees. Paying 1/2 is about the best I think I could have done. After 6% tax, tags etc. I was able to come in at under 21,000. I think I did ok. Did I?
Anyway, the car hasn't been built yet, so I have to wait 3-6 weeks http://www.scikotics.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif. I did get everything (extra mats, warranty, etc.) in writing and in writing that if I did not like the car, I could nix the deal the day I first see it if I'm unhappy for any reason, or I can nix it if it takes too long to arrive.
If anyone has any questions about the car, and driving it, let me know. I will post pictures when I get the vehicle. Primary reasons for choosing TC over other cars on list:
Reasonable price, impressive standard features like 18" wheels, IPOD integration, cool sunroof. Lots of space, pretty quick (not awesome), I live a block from the dealer (easy service).
One question, I'm curious what you guys do to them for performance upgrades (or maybe since it is so new, nobody knows). I would like to get a little more Ommpphh out of it, but don't want to void the warranty, or break the bank.
Thanx

I'm confused. You said that you test drove it, and then bought the car, and now you have to wait 3-6 weeks? Did I miss something?

My bad. They only had one, a white automatic. I drove that, and then ordered one the way I wanted (Crimson, Manual).

Ah okay, I figured as much but just wanted to ask. I test drove a 6speed my dealer had, and it's far & away better than the 1st gen tc's. Congrats with the purchase :)

@my06tc: Normally I agree 100% with you. But these things are in short supply. Each dealer in my area has one and none are manual. Rather then sit and wait for one to come in, then wait again if it's not exactly what I want, I decided to pull the trigger. To hedge my bet, I got it in writing that if for any reason I don't want the car the day I first see it, I get a refund of the deposit and can walk. So I will test drive it again with the salesman before it is a done deal.
I read up on some of the test drive reviews and heard the manual is better, so I feel pretty good.

Won't that void his lifetime warranty?

The 2G tC gear box is way better than the 1G. You will like it and the engine definitely feels a lot more livelier.

Sounds pretty good - how did they respond to the negotiating? (Since they have the no haggle pricing) Nice color too.

Well you can negotiate the dealer fee but not the vehicle price. But at least you didnt pay the whole fee and got some mats thrown in! Enjoy the car and post pics and a drivers review when you get it! I really dotn like them but still am interested in what the new crowd of tC owners thinks about them

They were pretty cool, actually. I think the kicker was that I drove up in a mustang and told them (truthfully) that I really liked the 2011 mustang, and that if we could not come to terms that I was heading back to Ford (I also have a sport trac, and before that an escort). You never know if they are yanking your chain, but it seemed they really wanted to get a Ford guy into the Toyota fold.
Will do, HighVoltage1. I've read lots of posts (here and elsewhere) from guys with 1st gen tcs that don't like it. Maybe you guys were just used to the old style and not ready for changes to your baby? Nothing wrong with that, I have an old Jeep and don't like the new ones. Once you live with something, and really like it, change can be jarring. Anyway, I really like the new style.

Just picked mine up tonight after a two week wait period. First, I hope you have the patience of a steel pole. If not, it is going to drive you crazy until the car arrives. I traded in my 07 tC for a black 2011. The 6 speed manual is hands down better than the previous set-up. My main problem driving home though was forgetting that it was a 6 speed. Then I had issues with reverse. I saw on the knob that it was to the left of first, but could not get it to go into gear. Little did I know, there was a pull lever at the bottom of the know that had to be engaged to place it in reverse. Saftey feature to keep you from throwing it in reverse while driving.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the 2011. As for the aftermarket parts, you'll have to purchase TRD parts to not void the warranty. I saw on TRDSparks website that they have an exhaust already, but have not confirmed with them to make sure yet.
Dealer fees are very common and are often around 700 bucks. On the bright side, you should receive 2 years of maintenance for free.

dont worry about the warranty. you can get any exhaust you want it wont void the warranty on the car...
if you get an aftermarket upgrade then they wont give you a warranty on that upgraded stuff.. but.. if you car breaks down because the aftermarket stuff then yeah... warranty is gone on the damaged part
lets say you get a cold air intake and you drive in to a lake and the engine sucks up some water then that wont be covered. but if your a/c stops working then that will be under warranty since it has nothing to do with the upgraded aftermarket parts.

Good info, thanx. I had a car like that (reverse lockout). I'm looking forward to the car, but not going crazy yet. I did get the maintenence free for 2 years.

Finally got the car friday! Glad that the dealer did not try to play any numbers games, it went through easy. I was suprized that it had a full tank of gas, I think the window sticker said 5 gallons or something. I ordered it without sat. radio, and they told me that to get the car in a reasonable amount of time that was the one they had to take, so no charge. I think it lists at 449.00. Only 3 months, but at least the hardware is there if I want it. Kids love the car, and fight over the station (I'm sick of radio disney already).
I love the crimson color. Looks black at night, a deep burgundy in low light, and a sparkling deep red in bright light--great color!
The owners manual is 'war and peace' long, so I haven't cracked it yet, but I have some questions that I hope it will answer. Will make another thread for that if I don't figure it out.
Will post some pictures in a day or so.

Got 260 miles on it, just put first tank of gas in it. Will check the MPG this tank, last one the gauge said 25.7 average.
Go with the cement, the crimson, although it looks beautiful, is a pain to keep clean!
