Picked it up from the dealership tonight after a two week wait. Figured I would start by posting pics. Will have new pics up hopefully this weekend with an aftermarket grill.

Tint and moar low = win! I'm so happy that brought just plain old Gloss Black to the table for the TC. I was ____ed when going to buy my 1st gen that they didn't offer it so I ended up with an RS3. Going back now, I would most likely gotten an RS5 or a SW.

Pretty. :)

Let us know how it compares with the 1st gen tC, especially the handling.

I really have enjoyed the past two days in the tC2. I hate Wal-Mart with a passion and always send my wife to go pick up groceries. I got home from work and she said she was going to head to Wal-Mart to get some dog food. I immediately stopped her and said that I would go. So not only do I get to drive my new car, I get brownie points.
Now to the topic at hand...
I can't really say too much for the performance because I only have about 25 miles on the car and I really don't want to do anything crazy until it is broke in. But I can elaborate on interior features.
From the 07 to the 11 there are several noticable changes (and not all of them are good). First, I absolutely love the new audio system. The alpine head unit, plus the eight speaker system. I currently own 2 memphis tens, which will be installed this weekend. Even without the extra bump in the trunk, you will enjoy the sound quality.
Another feature is the shifter. It is noticably shorter than the previous model and of course it is set up for the six speed manual, which I catch myself still driving in 5th gear since I am so used to it. Reverse has a safety feature which requires you to lift a piece located below the shifter ball to engage the transmission into reverse.
The clutch is really smooth, at least to me, compared to my 07. I have driven several manual cars over the past few years ranging from a spring action clucth to hydraulic clutches. In spring action clutches and some hydraulic clutches, you have to damn near stand up on them to get them to depress. The tC2 is light and fluid all the way to the floor. It lets out around midway.
A couple of features that I already miss are the press and forget roll down windows, loss of illuminated buttons on the steering wheel, one round vent on the passenger side (others are rectangular), and most of all, the auto off head light feature. I never cut my lights of in my 07, they automatically shut off when you cut the car off and open the door. Not now, you get an annoying chime until you cut them off.
I know this is only a small list of things about the interior, but its a start.

Just got the grills that are going to be installed on the tC2. The pics that I am posting are of an aluminum colored grill, but the ones that will be installed are gloss black. The grill set is a five piece set since the top grill is separated by the badge on the front. Hope yall enjoy and I will be installing them on Sunday. Pics of final install will follow shortly along with a write up with pics and where they can be purchased.

At first I thought something bad happened at Walmart, like you got a door ding or something. Good thing nothing happened.

I do agree about the circle vent...its so odd that they did that.

I would sit in the parking lot and cry til I ran out of tears and scream at the top of my lungs "WHY?....WHY?" if I came out of Wal-Mart and there was a buggy lodged against my car...

Got home in time for installation today. Pics of finished product tomorrow and a write up soon to come... I did however not use the satin set of grills, but a gloss black to match beautifully with the color of my car.

...and yes, they are from Fig Engineering.

Wow... I never knew they took off those features. Hopefully they will add them back in during the yearly refreshes. I'm assuming they have added the lock/unlock beeps, so least that's one new added feature.

Congrats on your new ride! I just picked up my 2011 tC last weekend. Same color too.

Unfortunately for the car, I commute 100+ Miles a day. Fortunately for me, I get to drive my new tC a lot!

I too have been very lightfooted and safe whilst braking in the engine. I will say that I have taken a few corners here and there and I really enjoy the ride. So far, I am in love with it. No one in my area has one that I know of so that is an added bonus.

Let me know how your new ride is going and if you have any insiders info. And I really like the grill you installed, where did you get it?

whats the ride quality like with the setup you got? i am looking to get mine lowered but i really don't wanna sacrifice too much ride quality. i'm not really looking to race it or anything concidering i have the auto. but i just want a lower stance to fit the 19's i'll be putting on.

Superpickel
01-05-2011, 12:08 AM
I haven't noticed any sacrifice in ride quality nor have I tried taking corners at higher speeds. The drop is mild so if you are going a really noticeable drop, you might want to think about the S-Techs or waiting on coilovers. Hope this helps you make you decision.

I keep meaning to add more pictures, just haven't gotten around to it.

PTuning offers the set of H-Techs for I think it was 260. Thats with the discount code ptscionlife.

I have seen a set of S-Techs on eBay for 187. not sure if it was legit for the 2011 or not though.

I have seen Eibach and H&R sets for right above 200 and I believe they were from racingsolution.com. Both are sponsored sellers on scionlife.

I am becoming more fond of he new tC. I have a 2008 now, and while I like the car, I think it is about time for an upgrade. My concern is the grille though. I hate that you can simply take out the "Scion" logo. I love the way my 1st gen looks like the VRD. So clean.

It isnt so much of an upgrade than a parallel shift. I think the general concenssus on scionlife is the 2G is an improvement over the 1G but not something to replace your 1G for.

Well, I will personally say do not let others influence your choice over what it is that you want. I had an 07 NBM tC. Nice car, loved it, and miss it occassionally, but I do not regret trading up. I enjoy the car totally. What I am basically saying is that if it is something you truely want, don't hold back. *This is not financial advice and do not blame me if you file bankruptcy because of poor financial planning.*

THe rust accumulates when you don't drive much... I've had my car since October and have around 3500 miles on it... have a company truck for work so anytime the wife wants something from town I volunteer to go get it so I can ride. Rust is there because of the horrible tornadic weather we had this week. At least it wasn't as bad here as it was in AL

Unfortunately... no. I kept having issues with the top side of the tail light where the major 90deg turn is. I have another set, just haven't attempted install yet. The first ones where a little too small and I believe if they would have been larger, I could have strectched them. If the new ones dont work out, I'll probably just buy and oversized piece of tinting vinyl that I can strecth easily and then cut the excess.

And i looked at the build you sent me... clean and I think I will eventually have a little more accenting marks in there.

I left them on the car because I have been told that it can be tricky to use vinyls on free moving object because it is hard to apply pressure without the object moving around. I myself would think that it would be easier to take them off, but... who knows.

Anyway, glad to see an update.

Plasti-dipped the dash (4 coats), white base (2 coats), flourescent green (3 coats), and gloss clear (2 coats). Turned out good and the picture don't really do it any justice. The color is really vibrant against all of the black. I was going to do accents on my rims (the V in between the spokes with the farthest gap), but had armor-alled the tires and some got on the rims... Tape won't stick to it so I didn't want to have to redo my rims.

Speaking of vinyl though, I am currently checking into vinyl wrapping my car in flat black. I'm getting quotes at the moment and deciding whether I want to do vinyl wrap or paint.

The blacked out tails look sick on the black paint

Thanks... Took me a couple of hours and I still have a couple of bubbles here and there and the top of the tails have some wrinkles. I have come to the conclusion that "my" attempts to vinyl the tails has failed. I tried to seek professional help, but the tint shop said that they wouldn't do it, but that the ones I did looked good for a beginner doing them.

This angle seems to make it looks the best because it has the least reflection. When the sun is nearly down, the whole stealthy look is amazing :icon_dj:

Really sorry i haven't gotten a dash removal put out yet. I have really been meaning too, but really haven't had time. I am working 60+ hours a week right now and I'm a full time student in college. Not to mention, the past couple of weeks have been hectic with the build. Here is a list of what has happened in the past two weeks.

VHT tail lights
30% tint (wanted darker, but damn Ga laws)
Killerglass radiator tubing
Seibon cf vented hood (arrives tomorrow)

Gonna be going to a show this weekend. Hopefully it will be better than the last show. At least this show is put together by Scion (corporation) and not just a single dealer. Not bashing the dealer show, but it's hard to place any higher than last place whenever the dealer's sponsored car club members are present...

I have thought about it numerous times, but for the road conditions where I live, I have talked myself out of it. Maybe if Ga would do like their neighbors in Fl and put up polls on the road in order to raise funds to keep the pavement in prestine condition. But then I would just be spending my money on going places.

And thanks everyone for the comments on the green. I finially finished the dash a couple weeks back when I removed the steering wheel bezel.

Pics as soon as I can afford time, but I'm sure I will snap a few at the car show this week.

Any new pics yet? Did the replacement hood come in? And can we see the Killerglass in the tC2? I first saw it at a show in a tC1 and thought it was one of the most original ideas I had seen in a while. I'd love to see it installed on a 2nd gen.

Awesome job! Looks great! I'm actually going to paint and vinyl wrap certain pieces.

Quick ?: Did you use filler primer to smooth out the center pieces so it looks flat? I can't tell from the pictures. Also did you buff it after the clear?

[QUOTE=Superpickel;3844162]Finished the interior painting aside from the silver steering wheel bezels... Here is pics and hopefully, I can do a write up on dash removal soon for all of those wanting to do the same...

three question i actually just started painting my silver trim and was wondering do you have to remove the whole dash in order to paint tthe a/c vents if so what is it just another pop or are there actually bolts holding this on

last question is have you attempted to remove the steering wheel and paint that trim

Used a primer on the center pieces, but did not fill in the dimples. All the other pieces, I sanded, painted, cleared, and then wet sanded. No polish. I don't plan on doing it at the moment unless it starts fading and I have to do it again.

And I apologize once more. I have been engrossed in computer programming classes that I have not had time to do the write up. I will work on it now while I have some time off from school.

I removed the whole dash to get all the pieces, you can lift the dash up and acrobatically remove the far right corner vent, but it is just easier to remove the dash since you already have 3/4 of it stripped out anyways.

Here are some much awaited pics of updates. I have the hood pics on here, but they are not the new hood. That should be arriving in the next couple of weeks. The KillerGlass is installed and there are pics. Also, the steering wheel is painted and pics of that are available.

Hood is unlatched in the next two pics. Fittament is ok, a little smaller than OEM left to right and the kick stand holes are too small. Other than that, great item.

Tails are VHTed with three coats on Night Shades, four of clear. I've damn near become a professional painter at this point.

next on the list is the door inserts and headliner. While I was at the remix show, found a local fabric store. Baught some black faux suede which was 24.99 a yard/ 60" wide, for less than half of that. They were having a 4th of July sale. I got 4 yards and a large rattle can of spray adhessive for $30.

As for the dash DIY, I will try my best to get it done this week. Since I don't have any school work, I should be able to get it done.

They are really not as dark as they seem. Light output is still good and can be seen when on in the daytime. You can still see the red in the light in person from about 30ft away.

Video Game Programming. Half-way through school. So if I start typing code into one of my comment, you now know what happened...

I got the KillerGlass at a discount. I think they are listed right at 200. My wife found a guy on Craigslist that was selling his for the 2nd gen xB, never used. I had talked with a KillerGlass rep before and they told me that the 2nd Gen tC was the same glass. Bought it off the Craigslist guy shipped at $85. My wife was gonna put it on her xB, but father's day landed it on my ride.

Need info on the tail lights how many cans of VHt nite shades did you use? Did you sand them first? If so what grit(s) did you use? What clear coat did you use? How many cans?
On the interior paint what paint did you use? What grit sand paper what primer did you use? Thanks

I'm not gonna lie, i was terrible at the VHT to start off with. But after doing the tails 3 times, I became pretty good at it. The last time (when I got it right), I had the lights sanded from stock. Used 1000 grit to get a fine sanding on the lights. Painted 3 layers of VHT, uniform spray over the whole light. Remember to start the spray before it hits the light and continue to spray until you are past the light. DO NOT try to spray heavy coats. Many light coats is the best idea and I would recommend no more than 4 (3 was perfect for me). After that, I did a light snad with 1000 grit (wet sanding). Then I did a heavy coat of clear. After drying, wet sanded with 1000 grit. Another heavy layer of clear then wet sand (1000 grit). Then two light, even coats. After that dried, a wet sand with 2000 grit. You should then see a haze where you sanded. Make sure to sand in the same direction the whole time, makes it easier when polishing.

After all of the painting, started with two coats of Meguires polish. Rubbed in hard and then wiped off with terry towel. Next was two coats of Meguires Plastix. Same as the polish. After that, three layers of wax. All of this gave it a shine.

I only used one can of VHT (for all three attempts) and 3 different cans of clear for each attempt. Ended up using Krylon Crystal Clear in the end for clear coat.

For the interior parts... Primed with basic white primer. Green with flourescent yard paint (green), and then clear. After painting on the green, I wetsanded with 1000 grit to remove raised areas. Then cleared and sanded with 2000 grit. Then polished and waxed to give a shine.

Thanks so when you started the lights with by sanding with 1000 grit sand paper was it a wet sanding or dry sanding? Also for the interior what is yard paint? What brand did you use? Also for the interior did you use Krylon Crystal Clear as your clear coat?

Sorry, started the lights by lightly wet sanding with the 1000 grit. Gets the surface prepped for the paint.

Interior paint- go to lowes/home depot, look for a rattle can with a flourescent green top (will be with the flourescent oragne and pink). Shows a green skateboard with pink stripes on the front of the label.

Interior clear- valspar gloss clear. You can use any clear you like though. clear is clear as long as you know whether you want a satin/dull or gloss finish.

Ok stay with me last question since I'm doing my tails this weekend. Did you sand the clear parts of the lights or did you just tape them off and finally did you clear coat the clear part of the light?

Superpickel
08-06-2011, 04:38 PM
Taped off the clear part along with the gray plastic. I used the green painters tape because it held up better against the water when wet sanding. I left the tape on to clear coat because the clear area was still shiny.

Not saying that you can't do it, but this was one thing that I had to practice at to get it right. Like I stated before, I did mine 4 times... I had to sand it all the way back down each time.

Gl and godspeed...

Black tC2s do not have A pillar tape. However, I did help my wife peel hers off her white 2011 xB... was a pain.
