Default TRD Supercharger Questions and Info

Hey! I need to get soem info on the TRD supercharger. I plan on purchasing it form the dealer the dya it comes out. Just have some questions:

1) Will it require synthetic oil?
2) Will it require a higher octane gas right away?
3) It pushes 5psi of boost factory, who has production plans for a higher boost pulley?
4) Anyone have a production model of a cold air intake for it right away?
5) What are some boost gauge mounting options for the car so far?
6) Will it come with a new ECU or do they plan on reflashing the ECU during install?
7) What other mods should be available for the unit right off the bat?
I plan on getting header, and an axleback before the TRD, should I consider anything else power wise before supercharger install?
9) Does TRD plan on releasing a midpipe (from header to axle) to complete the exhaust?

If anyone has any info for me I'd apriciate it, thanks!

1) I use synthetic anyway, but I doubt you would have to. Synthetic is a better performing oil, so it is never a bad idea. I would always reccomend using it.

2) You may want to go a little higher if you are using regular, but try it out and see if you experience spark knock. I personally run 89 - 90 normally.

3) Haven't heard of any pulleys yet, but they will be out there I am sure

4) I am waiting on the AEM to come out. It is just pending CARB approval as of now.

5) There are a couple of companys (can't remember their names off hand, sorry) that make A-Pillar mount gauge assemblies that are very nice.

6) One of the things the Scion people have told me so far is that one thing that has held up the release was bugs they were working out in the flash and the emmissions stuff. It is supposed to be soon. I have been told that they will flash the ECU and possibly install larger injectors.

7) Haven't heard

You may want to consider a CAI of some type.

9) Don't know about that, but you could have one put in at an exhaust shop. I can't recall what the stock size is.

Sorry I don't have more, but hopefully that helps! I am also awaiting the TRD SC!!

^^^^^hey, could you explain to me the differences between an intercooler and an aftercooler, and the benefits one has over the other?

Mostly due to a misnomer. An intercooler is acually placed between two turbos in a staged system. On a single system is actually an aftercooler. The name intercooler just stuck. An aftercooler is a cooler mounted after the supercharger or turbo, which is what everyone calls an intercooler. Just symantics really. Hope this helps.

I get it, thanks for the info, do you know anything about air to water aftercoolers vs, air to air, and how hard it owuld be to adapt one of these to our car if TRD doesn't include one in a kit? Thanks for your expertise.

The water cooled units are more costly. They include a water pump and extra hardware. They do a better job than the air cooled version, but as I mentioned, are a little more spendy and contain more hardware

Air to water intercoolers are generally used when long term heatsoak isn't going to be a problem (drag racing, time attack, etc.). The problem with air-water is that once the water in your resovoir heats up, the heat exchanger usually can't cool it down to the temperature it was at before.

The aem intake will not work with the trd supercharger. The aem is designed for naturally aspirated cars. The supercharger goes inline between the air filter and the throttle body which changes the way the piping is routed from a car without the supercharger.

at this point, everything that you hear is all speculation. No one will know for sure until trd releases the official specs and pricing on april 1'st

The few people at Scion that I have talked with have quoted between $2700 and $3000.
