View Full Version : K&N improper installation...lol
Chimmy3 03-06-2005, 11:46 AM lol.. nothing big ... :P i'm only being half serious here but...
apparently K&N doesn't follow their own installation instructions..
http://www.kandn.com/instructions/69-8605.pdf
If you notice
STEP 1: Turn the ignition off and disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal.
but if you look at the rest of the pics... the guy has his battery connected the whole time.
(apparently also has a ground wire kit)...
bad K&N  , don't you know how much we rely on pictures to install our mods properly? :eyebrow:
i do the same thing!!!
i don't disconnect my battery
K_Dawg_ONE 03-06-2005, 06:45 PM I didnt even follow MY KN instructions...lol...just went at 'er!
unlmtdndeavor 03-07-2005, 08:44 AM there is definately no reason to disconnect it
K_Dawg_ONE 03-07-2005, 01:29 PM Whats weird though, i think anyways, is that only the KN follows the path it does...
cheXmiXB 03-08-2005, 04:50 AM hey jus wondering... is the k&n typhoon intake any good??? im still doing research and want some feedbacks.... im chosing either the k&n typhoon intake or injen cold air intake... thanks
XBman 03-08-2005, 04:54 AM over those 2 K&N is alot better but u might want to look into the injen short ram intake
jdaniels 03-08-2005, 03:21 PM Personally, I think the K&N Typhoon is a poor design. I purchased one, and installed it to find out that the car was actually slower 0-60 and 1/4 mile on a GTECH afterwards. (this was last year sometime).
After looking at the intake removed from the car, you can see where the problem is. In order to keep the MAF happy, they weld a round piece of metal right before the MAF sensor hole to restrict and defract air... it's a sharp, flat, turbulance creating halfmoon that is left to flow past.
Personally, I wouldn't suggest the K&N Typhoon... to anyone.
kacosta 03-08-2005, 04:32 PM the photos are for illistration only unless im working on the airbag system witch has capacitors or perhaps the hybird system witch can kill you. that first step is just a precaution
in general and they never know what kind boob will be working on on their car so they have to cover their ___
that looks like a homemade intake kit btw like i made from my moonshine still pipeing & stuff . the pretty award goes to aem imo
hotbox05 03-08-2005, 04:33 PM I have also noticed this odd design with the k&n , oh well as long as the buyer is happy I suppose. I would suggest the injen shortram or aftermarket aem.

ouch actually this is the first bad review ever I've heard about the K&N intake... Actually I don't think I've ever heard positive reviews so. .. I guess Injen it is... dunno about aftermarket AEM... never seen it...
K_Dawg_ONE 03-09-2005, 09:19 AM I dont know if i like the design on the INjen...i mean, placing the filter above/near the header causes heat-sync does it not?
hotbox05 03-09-2005, 09:41 AM I dont know if i like the design on the INjen...i mean, placing the filter above/near the header causes heat-sync does it not?The injen you are referring to is the xA short ram , the xB short ram pulls from the bumper , the aftermarket aem is a L pipe , the filter hang down , it's a good design I liked it but.... no carb eo unlike what their website said. frickin liars.
ugly_duck 03-10-2005, 05:01 PM heatsink would be minimul if you see where the air flow is coming from.
jdaniels 03-12-2005, 04:28 AM That would be heatsoak, and I wouldn't worry about it where the filters on the xB cold air intakes end up.
