View Full Version : Tein Springs available
WellesleyScion 11-01-2010, 02:29 PM I noticed it in another thread but figured it should be noted in the suspension section.
P-Tuning has them here:

jkchang626 11-01-2010, 05:35 PM Tein SS Coilovers will also be out soon as well. I think Crawford has the Tein prototypes on their SEMA build. We had a set flown in from Japan for ours.

I spoke with the guys over at Tein USA and they said late December/early January.

Superpickel 11-10-2010, 12:54 AM Quick question that is semi-post related. I called today to get an estimate in the install of the tein springs. Most quotes were over $450. They said that it was (going off of previous models) 6 hours of labor. Most shops where I live charge $75/hr. I hade another shop quote me $410 and that included allignment. I had one more estimate from a guy that does a lot of work on race cars. he said that he would install the springs for $175, but he couldn't allign the car for me though. I guess my main question is if installations normally run this high.
Another question that I have is if I would need a camber kit or does the tC2 have the capability of adjustment already?

I wouldn't worry about your camber so much as toe. Toe causes premature tire wear, camber does not.
But yes, the tC has plenty of toe adjustment available to it.
greenbean24 11-10-2010, 04:25 PM Superpickel.... Just install them yourself man!
I've gotten a spring job down to about an hour.
You need basic hand tools,
12,14,17,19 mm (I think) sockets and a ratchet
A floor jack
And a mcpherson strut spring compressor (rent for free at most chain automotive stores)
I'm sure you know this, but you should just be an OG and put the first set on a TC2 by yourself lol

Wow, that's quite high. We (the dealer, in the Los Angeles area) charge a flat $315. for the install including alignment. I hear most shops in the area range from $150. to $250. without alignment. I'm surprised it's so high in your area (where are you from?)
WellesleyScion 11-11-2010, 12:54 AM Im not surprised, there are places local to me that charge $600 for it without alignment. I wouldnt bring my car anywhere for a simple job like springs, better to just do it myself...
Superpickel 11-11-2010, 02:52 AM So assuming that I man up (thanks greenbean), put my big boy pants on, and install these myself, I would only need to take my car to have it alligned? I think an allignment would be 100 bucks where I live. Thats not that bad. But, how much will I be cussing trying to break the nuts loose from this thing... Must give this more thought...
greenbean24 11-11-2010, 06:22 AM It's a brand new car. It will come apart like a breeze, the bolts will be easy and not seized up
Superpickel 11-12-2010, 01:24 AM So you think that I would be able to break them easily without the use of an impact? The only wratchet I have is a 3/8 drive. Think it is strong enough to loosen the bolts?
Also, I saw one write up on scionlife. Any pointers or additional information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
greenbean24 11-12-2010, 01:29 AM Yeah for sure,
There are two huge nuts (lol) that are on the spindle which are like 3/4 I believe, either a large wrench or long ratchet handle should break those loose
Superpickel 11-12-2010, 01:39 AM I have plenty of long poles I can put on the end of my wratchet, I'm just afraid is that the force I will be applying will be too much for that small wratchet. Guess we will see soon.
greenbean24 11-12-2010, 01:44 AM 1/2 drive ratchets are like 5 bucks at harbor freight, just incase yours breaks. They really don't torque the bolts down like you think anyways
1stOne 11-12-2010, 02:12 AM If your that worried, this probably isn't the project for you. Springs are not hard and being a car that is brand new, you will have no issues cracking bolts loose. Heck, you could probably do it with a 1/4" drive ratchet!
Superpickel 11-12-2010, 02:45 AM Not that worried, just never done it before. Just trying to figure out the how hard it will be. Thanks for the input guys.
greenbean24 11-12-2010, 03:06 PM No problem,
I can't wait till the stance coilovers come out, that will be a great day.... (January)
notilloc 11-13-2010, 05:49 AM I cant wait for some performance springs come out. Tein does a good job but i am looking for something with a little more aggresive spring rate and with less drop than the s techs. Hopefully someone does something soon.
excaka 11-16-2010, 02:43 AM man im in the same boat. here in san diego my lowest quote was 400 without alignment! anyone in san diego wanna make some cash to install them for me? ;)
Superpickel 11-17-2010, 03:34 AM Well, ordered the springs last Saturday, but won't receive them til around late December. Will post pictures when I'm done.
