View Full Version : Component and Amp suggestions needed...
dwaine 11-05-2010, 06:11 PM Ok, so currently I have 6.5" components (RF T-1652-s) and they are hooked up to a 200wRMSx2 @4ohms (So they are getting what they want RMS) but its just not loud enough for me. I need some suggestions for some comps and an amp that can get really loud. Price is up in the air...$500-700 more is ok if needed...
Sub is just a single 12" CVX pushed with zx750.1 (got a deal on the kicker goods)
Deck is a pioneer (forget the model name) but just single DIN, ipod hookup etc...
mrmondaynight 11-06-2010, 11:17 PM What amp are you currently using?
I don't know any amps that do 200 x 2 @ 4..unless it's a 4 channel bridged down to 2.
If that's not loud enough, then it may be time to step up to pro audio.
rangerryda 11-06-2010, 11:22 PM Not loud enough or not clear enough when loud?
dwaine 11-08-2010, 05:41 AM Sorry, I meant at 2ohms.. but Hifonics HFi100.2 is my current amp. And I just want louder it stays clear. Thanks alot guys.
rangerryda 11-08-2010, 06:37 AM Get your hearing checked man! How loud is loud enough? Blood from your ears lol?
mrmondaynight 11-08-2010, 07:08 AM These are cool

dwaine 11-08-2010, 05:14 PM lol, and actually in all honesty, I'm really after brighter and louder highs... So to save money, should probly upgrade tweeters first and then see.. Any suggestions on that? Thanks again guys!
rangerryda 11-08-2010, 08:30 PM Kicker is known for having the brightest highs, I can vouch for that with the simple KS series sets I run off of my 350.4 (also Kicker). It's not my taste but I tuned a lot of the brightness out of them. If you're looking for bright, go SS Kicker's or something crazy ya know?
GQQSE13 11-08-2010, 08:43 PM ^^agreed. also does your amp have an adjustable gain on it? and does the head unit have a place to adjust the settings for highs and mids? check those 2 first in case everything is turned down low
dwaine 11-09-2010, 06:05 AM i will look into those kickers... and yessir, the gain (input level or something like that) on the Hifionics amp is up as much as it'll go before the amp will put its self into protect, and thats not very high either... and yes crossovers are set highest for the tweets, +2db, and the HU is at +6 for highs...
rangerryda 11-09-2010, 06:12 AM I just noticed that you are 110 years old. This is the problem!
highvoltage1 11-09-2010, 11:27 AM ^LOL
I would say maybe some Infinity Kappa components! Better quality amp too. I like the old Alpine amps. The new ones are just to expensive. I got 2 old style Alpine amps that are still running great! MRP-450 is over 4 years old and i have a 2 channel alpine MRP T220 and I got that used on here for like 75 bucks over a year ago. they obviously dotn make them anymore but if you an find them id scoop them up.
dwaine 11-09-2010, 02:15 PM haha, hmmm maybe that is the problem! lol..
And yes I've been looking at new amp of better quality. And any particular components from Infinity?
dwaine 11-09-2010, 02:38 PM WHat do you guys think about the Polk Audio MM6501? Or infinity over polk?
highvoltage1 11-09-2010, 03:19 PM haha, hmmm maybe that is the problem! lol..

Thats the specific ones- Kappa line by Infinity
GQQSE13 11-09-2010, 04:00 PM WHat do you guys think about the Polk Audio MM6501? Or infinity over polk?
i'm actually running those in my doors. tweeters i've somehow managed to blow after about a year n a half, but the mids are still goign strong. i have other polk components in the rear panels and another set still to install
dwaine 11-09-2010, 05:38 PM How do you like them? Pretty good Midbass? Or do you think I should just go new (better quality) amp and some new tweeters and see how things are from there? That's what I really want, just louder highs. I'm content with the RF 6.5's I have now
highvoltage1 11-09-2010, 05:44 PM get some good tweeters and a quality amp. See where that takes you! Then if you dont like just upgrade the 6.5s.
allfe777 11-09-2010, 06:07 PM well kicker series is good and loud . its all depends on how loud u want it . if u want loud as hell go with loud speakers. such as eminece and selenium. earthquake is awsome. but now if u want high end component set or speakers its going to cost u. such as boston acustik and precision power component set . just how loud u want it ? if u want to go with more power to door speakers usually people run 2 channel amp. if u want more control over or more clear sound go with 4 channel
dwaine 11-09-2010, 10:29 PM I want it to loud/bright enough where I'll need to turn down my settings from +2db on the crossover and +6 on the HU. I want loud.
allfe777 11-10-2010, 02:21 AM go with nice loud speakers and nice bullet tweeter . that will give u enough mid and hi.
allfe777 11-10-2010, 02:22 AM if u want nice clean sound get eminence . with db drive 300 watt bullet tweerter
allfe777 11-10-2010, 02:26 AM i have kicker door speakers run to 700 watt 2 channel . 8 loud 6" door speakers running to 1300 watt 2 channel at 2 ohm. loud speaker is def more louder than door speakers. if u want more louder than that. add some horns such as selenium drivers wich will give u piercing sound but that will be stupid loud,
dwaine 11-10-2010, 03:45 AM Can I get a link to where I can buy some of these selenium horn tweeters? Thanks alot guys!
allfe777 11-10-2010, 11:14 AM if u looking for selenium driver it is call d250-x i belive. make sure if put selenium driver in get cap 33 bass blocker too. so make sure u wont blow the driver.
GQQSE13 11-10-2010, 02:12 PM How do you like them? Pretty good Midbass? Or do you think I should just go new (better quality) amp and some new tweeters and see how things are from there? That's what I really want, just louder highs. I'm content with the RF 6.5's I have now
i definitely like em. and i have stretched em to the max and no issues with them (just the tweeters went out, which i've got replacements for). if i could i'd get another set of this series, but couldnt find any when i was looking to replace the rears so ended up with the db models.
allfe777 11-10-2010, 09:15 PM make sure tho most of the after market tweeter by it self is 4 ohm. just to be in safe side put a bass blocker on. if its like bullet tweeter or such they already have bass blocker on. wich some people call cross over. when u put those on ur amp actually dont read tweeter and u dont want to blow it out so its helpful when u put bass into door speakers. because mostly it will be jumped off from door speakers.
allfe777 11-10-2010, 09:25 PM well invest in equalizer. if u want more control over u will need eq. cross over on amp and radio only can do soo much. plus if u have nice equalizer it will def def clear out the sound. plus u can make it little louder thx to the volume control on eq. get nice 7 band and hifonics amp 100.2 is good amp but still isnt strong enough. find 2 channel amp that will least do about 400 rms. but now is tho u have to c it good. its depends on how amp rated in what volt. most of the amp is rated at 14v. its kind hard to get to full 14v with just stock battery and wiring. no look for the amp that is rated power at 12v
mrmondaynight 11-10-2010, 10:04 PM Pro audio would be the route to go
Not noob friendly, though.
If u want LOUD, components are not the way to go.
Something like
http://www.usspeaker.com/faital%20pro%208pr200-1.htm
and
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=294-608
Would get stupid loud on 100-200w
allfe777 11-10-2010, 10:07 PM go with loud speakers then. it will be about twice louder than door speaker. and db drive tweeter will give u plenty of hi. if u want good mid bass out of it too put in on full range. it will handle it
mrmondaynight 11-10-2010, 10:26 PM LOL@getting midbass from a tweeter
allfe777 11-11-2010, 09:35 PM im talking about loud speaker will give him plenty of mid bass. if he put it in full range. tweeter will not give out bass . bass go in to those will blow it. thats why people have bass blocker on it . plus bass blocker will make amp wont read the tweeter so ohm to amp will not change.
