View Full Version : Vote to Keep xB from Ranking in UglyCar Contest
RPMxB 03-06-2005, 10:34 PM Please vote to keep the Scion xB from ranking Second in the stupid Tom & Ray's Ugly New Car Contest. This would be bad publicity for our beloved xB's.
Go to: http://www.cartalk.com to vote.
Let's try to keep Aztek first and make Hummer or Element second.
See my thread in Scion News & Press Releases for a disussion of this:
Tom & Ray Announce Ugliest New Cars Contest

Thanks. RPM
FrankenScion 03-06-2005, 10:54 PM I say bring on the bad publicity. That way less people will buy them and ours will be more unique. 8)
George 03-06-2005, 10:58 PM Who really cares what they think? All you do by voting is promote their silly website and make them more money from ad hits.
bB2NER 03-06-2005, 11:04 PM It's unfreakin believable, the negative comments the have listed about the xB from people that don't even own one here they are and don't get too mad.
Is it full of clowns when you buy it? — Tom
My kids call the Element and Scion "Lego cars". But at least you can take a Lego car apart and make something useful out of it. — Beverly She's clueless or just plain dumb
Did the cleaning lady take the plans for this out of the trash as a joke — and nobody noticed? — Susie This Biatch it just braindead
All the grace of a hippo on stilts. — Chris CLUELESS
Did they forget to take it out of its shipping crate? — Richard This is an acceptable funny comment
A smaller, uglier distant cousin of the Honda Element; it's inherently unstable, underpowered and hideous to look at. — Steve This ___ has prolly never even driven one
Looks like some sort of milk truck for a Shriner parade. — Will
Its appearance should serve as an innovative but effective first line of defense against car theft. — Sharon Yea we wish
When I was younger, my friends and I would make cars out of refrigerator boxes. Never in a million years could I have dreamed we were actually years ahead of our time. — Josh
Takes the cube to new levels of ugliness. — Jon This is prolly an Element owner
I don't think any of these dip____s have even test driven one
Go there and vote for any of the other ones. I even sent them an email about the xB being placed on a cutest car list not UGLY

Word.

That would be good for the short term but we will need parts farther down the line eventually. Also it is good for Toyota to sell as many as possible to pass Ford in world automotive domination
Chimmy3 03-06-2005, 11:48 PM umm last i check toyota HAS surpassed ford in world domination... well from what i read at least .. and second in terms of marketing ... no publicity is really bad publicity...
i'd rather be known as the ugliest than the 2nd ugliest... I mean you'll still be considered ugly.. but you'll still have the distinguishment of being first...
let's face it... you'll never be able to convince everyone the xb is a beautiful car.. the ppl who like it will like it...
the rest... well they're just shallow..
at least this way I know, the people who drive the box.. they're after something more than looks

Unless you are a Toyota stockholder, why do you care?
This thread makes me laugh. We buy a vehicle because it is unique, and then get all bent out of shape when someone calls it 'ugly". If you are worried that the xB may make the top of an "ugly car list" on the internet, then you bought the xB for the wrong reasons.
My self-worth and self-image are NOT tied to the vehicle I drive. I bought my xB because it pleases ME and serves MY needs. If people don't like it, that's their gig... but then again, they're not the ones making the car payments either. :P

Yes, you're right... I agree. But a vote for the truly ugly Hummer, Aztek or Element in this dumb contest can't hurt. :P RPM
TheScionicMan 03-07-2005, 12:15 AM I'll probably vote for the xB. It's a face only a mother could love, I understand and enjoy that part of my ugly little Box. It's definitely a niche vehicle, not designed or planned to have mass appeal. That's a good thing, IMO.
BTW, most of those "negative comments" can be found in the "What's your favorite xB insult" thread...

I often think that if all those folks with the fat SUVs parked in my work garage switched to the xB, the world would be a better place, and the SUV drivers would be just as satisfied for their practical needs... but I agree, that's not going to happen.
 RPM
bB2NER 03-07-2005, 12:31 AM I hadn't heard of Toyota passing Ford. And no, I'm not a stock holder but I love how Toyota has prospered over the years and hope it continues in the future so they can bring many new thinking vehicles to the marketplace!!!
Max2k 03-07-2005, 01:01 AM Let 'em talk.
rallyxb 03-07-2005, 01:35 AM You have to remember that "Tom & Ray" are car talk-show goofs.
Their "gimmick" is to be obnoxious, funny, and loud.
What else do you expect from a pair of overweight, balding, middle aged, men?
:loser:
There are MANY more respectable car review magazines and websites that give the xB glowing reviews.
Even the ultra-conservative "Consumer Reports" which many people view as the "car review Bible" had this to say...
"The cube like xB is a brilliant concept in space efficiency, and offers an exceptional roomy interior. Rear-seat room compares favorably with large sedans. The low floor and high roof make access very easy. Anti lock breaks and stability control are standard. Handling is fairly nimble. Good visibility and compact dimensions make this a great city car..."
BTW: The xB was also rated by C.R. as "most reliable vehicle", "most satisfying" and "Best Vehicle"
So... let the "sheep" have their opinion.
They can all still drive their cough-drop shaped cars that all look the same and still get lousy gas millage.
<< BAA, BAA >>
Sublimize23 03-07-2005, 02:16 AM if you can't take bad criticism for owning/driving an xB, I say you take it back right now. I've learned to deal with it, after all, who cares? it's your car.
yournightmare 03-07-2005, 02:28 AM The Chrysler 300 is up for "ugliest car????" What is wrong with those people?
yournightmare 03-07-2005, 02:31 AM And what's up with the "inherently unstable" comment? I don't have a problem with people's opinions on how it looks, but to call it inherently unstable is just an outright lie.
LavabB 03-07-2005, 02:33 AM If different is good, than this is better! (xB)
scooter123 03-07-2005, 02:49 AM The current vote totals:

bB2NER 03-07-2005, 02:49 AM The Chrysler 300 is up for "ugliest car????" What is wrong with those people?
Yeah, it's ugly but not as ugly as the Pacifica
TheScionicMan 03-07-2005, 02:49 AM And what's up with the "inherently unstable" comment? I don't have a problem with people's opinions on how it looks, but to call it inherently unstable is just an outright lie.
I think that's an assumption based on the SUV-esque shape of it. People don't realize that much of the SUV instability comes from the higher center of gravity due to the suspension height and not so much from the shape of the body

I, personally, think it comes from just plain stupidity. But thats just me.

Yeah, it's ugly but not as ugly as the Pacifica
I don't think the Pacifica is that bad. The is all part of the re-invention of the station wagon. In the late 70's, wagons were the thing but then they got a bad rep like the minivan has now. So, AMC and Subaru made it 4X4, then it turned into the Cherokee or Blazer type small SUV which was the standard for years and then Lexus made it back into a wagon again and then they realized it didn't need to have 4x4 so back came the wagon. The Pacifica is just the minivan version of the same cycle...
You can substitute your own brands and models if those don't work for you. Just for example purposes and of course just my opinion...
NARCOSOMNI 03-07-2005, 03:10 AM haha i voted the aztek! seriously ugly butt on that car but the vibe is baddass
bB2NER 03-07-2005, 03:11 AM I'm kinda surprised the xA didn't get stuck on the list. The way the numbers are falling, We need to start voting for the Hummer seeing how the Aztec has first all to it's self :nails:
squarepants 03-07-2005, 03:15 AM just goes to show you we got too much time on our hands to have a stupid thing as a ugliest car list, might be one of those import haters came up with that site, please you haters get a life............. :ttth:
squarepants 03-07-2005, 03:23 AM wait a minute your telling me that the mercedes g500 didn't make the list, that over price shoe box............... :blah: :blah:

I'm a huge fan of C.R. and their review was what convinced me to visit a dealer.

I agree!!
Right on! I'm glad that there are other people in the world who are happy being a little different Anybody who hates the xB, obviously has no problem being a sheep. I imagine that most of us have been unconventional long before we had xB's.
Max2k 03-07-2005, 08:28 PM They're cars, who really cares?
Fujiz_xb 03-07-2005, 08:36 PM some peeps are weird.. my "friend" said he rather peddle a schwin over buying an xb..
he preffers that chrysler 300c.
oh well.. to bad.. i love my jap made xb
Tyler_Knight 03-07-2005, 09:41 PM I read somewhere that Automotive Designers tend to design a car that will divide popular opinions into thirds. One third should love it, one third will hate it and one third indifferent. Follow that formula and the car should sell well. The kiss of death is when the general opinion is that it is just "OK".
xB is one of the most polarizing vehicles that I have seen. I love it.
