Cold Air Intake:
There is a problem with the cold air intake rubbing and messing up the filter. Take it to any dealer to have this fixed, although I don't know about any TSB's for this.

if you're having trouble just go to your dealer, they can look it up. basically you need to adjust the air-mix damper control cable assembly.

Maybe find a way to set up a digital gauge & read what temp your car seems to like & what it should be at? Not sure if that would work.

I would think 42* is nice & cold. Maybe the way to test is at fan speed 1. The air I would think should be the same from speed 1 to speed 4 just that speed 4 is pushing the air out much faster, so it fells up the car faster.
Scott17 10-03-2004, 11:01 PM Hey guys, I ordered the kit to do my AC last week but the kit was on backorder. When it comes in I will do my car and see what happens. The kit has a higher capacity compressor and condenser. Also a different thermistor and wire harness for the blend doors. The system will have different switches for max cool and max heat, and the system should have more cooling potential. I will post the results when I get done.
tcm_xB 10-09-2004, 12:39 AM 1) Can all the TSB's be done to the vehicle even if you don't notice all of them being a problem :?: ....warm a/c, all rattles, alignment issues
2) Will the dealer have to drive the car for any reason :?:
3) Does Toyota pay the dealer for each TSB performed on the vehicle :?: ....which is why each one has it's own time allowed for.
4) Being the anal freek I am about my Box should I let them know the car is new i.e. nothing's been taking apart, interior has no scrathes, all screws and bolts are in place and that I will inspect the work afterwards :?: I've let people in the past (Best Buy / Circuit City) work on my cars and always something f**ked up (scratches or missing hardware).
5) Anything else I should be aware of :?:

1. Yes, thats why its a TSB. Just let them know that you want it looked into.
2. Depending on what the TSB was for, maybe.
3. Yes Toyota pays the bill on this one.
4. Yes you could let them know this & tell them any part you find not like it was, you will have replaced under warranty because of there ____ poor skills.
5. Not that I know of, other then it might be in for a few days depending on how many problems you will have them fix.
tcm_xB 10-09-2004, 07:19 PM 5. Not that I know of, other then it might be in for a few days depending on how many problems you will have them fix.
Will the dealers give a loaner vehicle even if it's just for the day? Is an appoitment necessary?
I know I could call the dealer. I want to hear first hand experiences that way I have some leverage and know what to expect.

tC's loose shifter.
Some 2005 model year Camry, Corolla, Scion tC and Solara vehicles
transmission may experience one or more of the following conditions:
A loose shift gate feel
A rattle from the shift lever assembly
These conditions may be caused by the shift lever assembly retaining ring lifting (see
illustration on next page) and allowing excessive movement of the shift lever. The shift
lever assembly has been improved to eliminate this condition.

Thanx for the link!
I have saved both TSBs on the AC. I full plan on getting this done as soon as I can. My xA was HELL last summer, since I guess a Japanese AC just can't handle a Southern California summer. I will definitely keep posted on how much the fix improves things.
atticdog 02-20-2005, 12:54 PM The a/c can handle the summer fine, its just the air mixture cable they adujst. kinda like adjusting the water from your sink, the mixture of cold and hot water

Well, there's two TSBs...the one where they fix that prob in less than one hour, and the other where they replace tons of junk during 6 hrs. work of work.
The first is a prob, because I've run the vents at night when it's cold, and turn the temp all the way down and still get warm air. I still want to get the second done, because even when the AC does "cool down" and I use recirculate, it's still a bit too warm.
Our other car, an '03 Ford Focus, is freezing even in 100+ temps. You can't leave it on too cold a setting for too long even during a heat wave. I like that.
FrostedTheFlake 02-23-2005, 01:22 AM So my car's going into Redlands Scion tomorrow to get its diagnosis. My partner is going instead of me, so I'm making sure to print out the TSBs just in case. I'm hoping they'll do the simple fix tomorrow and then order parts for the complex fix.
I'm odd. There's been nothing but rain in SoCal, and I'm getting my AC fixed. Well, I wanted to do it before the heat comes back and before time runs out on it.
Chimmy3 03-02-2005, 12:54 PM oo good thing to know about the VSC initialization... didn't know we had to do that

lalagimp 06-29-2005, 08:13 AM It's not just about having them adjust what's mixing to fix the AC issue. I took mine in after asking about the service bulletin and what was thought to be a half hour job *adjustment* is actually now a parts on order that will take a day to do when they get here. i'm assuming it's the one about not holding solid temperatures that requires some sort of assembly installation.
I'm sure it will be fine next week when it's all over but thank you for having the links up so that I can see what they see at the dealer.
My dealer and service dept were honest and straight up when I told them my problem and asked if there were any bulletins out.

bBOXD 08-28-2005, 10:16 PM Do TSB's have to be fixed or brought back to Toyota before your 3 year 36,000 mile warranty expires?
ScionBandit 09-09-2005, 05:40 PM vehicles must be taken back to Toyota/Scion dealer to be covered under warranty before 3/36 is expired

jwaggz82 06-30-2006, 01:59 AM anything on the tC supercharger making noise?
jwaggz82 06-30-2006, 02:10 AM it does say: "Review with the customer that the supercharger will have a slight rattling and/or chirping sound, especially at idle, and that these are normal noises for this type of supercharger." (page 38 of s/c manual)
that might be the answer to my question - just seems odd that it wouldnt have done that right after the install.

ScionBandit 07-19-2006, 12:00 PM are you feeling the a/c not being "cold enough" all the time?? or in extremely hot weather??
have you tested the temp yet yourself, so you dont waste the dealers time and yours?
jwaggz82 07-19-2006, 09:45 PM your saying test the temp comming out of the vent? ...if so ...what should it be?
ScionBandit 07-19-2006, 09:48 PM yes, test the temp out of the vent
on a normal day (70ish) should be between 44-55 F
say its 95 out, your a/c is only going to be blowing 60-70 F, not freezing cold
it only compensates for about 30degree difference from the outside temp

Yanki01 08-06-2006, 05:22 AM try closing the pass. vent? I did that about a week ago and its been pretty good for me? I need to take a temp of it tho to make sure everything is working fine! But it blows more air to me so...?
nokiafan88 08-06-2006, 05:42 PM Thankyou for the TSB, i was always wondering why my AC was never cold even though I recharged it once with those AC recharge kits. It was just not cold enough
Sweatstance 12-05-2006, 12:58 AM anything on the tC supercharger making noise?

Cold Air Intake:
There is a problem with the cold air intake rubbing and messing up the filter. Take it to any dealer to have this fixed, although I don't know about any TSB's for this.

Hey -
Thought someone would know what the hell this sound is. Starting today when I press in the clutch it makes a squealing noise and also when I depress it. With the window down, it sounds like its right under the tire. The clutch grabs pretty well and doesn't look like to be any slippage when engaging/disengaging. What could this be? Thanks.
CorollasBest 09-11-2007, 08:19 PM squeaky clutch pedal. I have to grease mine like every 2 months because it never stops whining.
jwaggz82 09-11-2007, 08:53 PM Oddly enough mine did do that for a few days and it went away - maybe someone at the dealer fixed it (when i brought it in for whatever else i was doing)

msvcs 06-16-2008, 05:35 PM Hi, I am looking for the TSB on changing the camshaft gear for 05 xB which have the VSC, Trac Off and Check engine lights on. Apologize if this has been answered before, but could not find the TSB using the search option and hence the posting.
mike6789k 07-01-2008, 10:35 PM hi guys i need NV009-07 so badly im about to run my car off a cliff if i cant fix the stupid roof tick...
no its not the fins, no its not the velcro clips, i'm pretty sure it's in this TSB !!
jwaggz82 07-01-2008, 10:41 PM Roof tick can be actually in the frame bending. If thats the case they have to get to a point where they are fed up with you and they send some "special" person from toyota in to look at it. What they really should do it tac weld some spots and I think that should help .......but im not positive of that answer.
mike6789k 07-01-2008, 11:45 PM ok guys i got the bulletin!!
but my question is, does the dealer have to do the service if my car is under waranty?
they're trying to get out of it because i removed the headliner myself ...
jwaggz82 07-02-2008, 03:07 AM ^jeze man - you shouldn't tell them anything about how you were trying to fix it. A lot of the people on here know the same amount or more then the dealer .... the last thing you want is the dealer trying to say you broke something when you clearly didn't. This is a known issue that has been on SOOOO many tC's. You should email them the post telling them this is a known problem.
George 07-24-2008, 10:52 PM ok guys i got the bulletin!!

If you've removed the headliner and it still has the tick then you've eliminated one cause of the problem!
Dealers don't like to do warranty work because Toyota doesn't reimburse at the same rate that they would charge you for the same work.
Stick to your guns and tell the service manager (not the service writer) that your next step is to call Toyota to complain about their refusal to honor the warranty.
My dealer tried to get out of doing the CD, AC, and fuel tank TSBs until I told them what the consequence would be.
apaxi 05-28-2009, 01:22 AM Hi all... first post; sorry to bring a quiet thread back to life. I took my '07 Scion tC (35k miles) to the dealership yesterday and showed them the NV009-07 TSB and the rattle I have in the back hatch. The service advisor test drove it, acknowledged the rattle, then told me that it would probably be worse after they 'fixed' it. He kept trying to convince me that I should not have them repair it and said that they had done several hundred of these TSB fixes and that more issues would probably arise when they fixed it. I was really shocked, but I kept insisting that I would like it fixed and he finally ordered the 4 pads and said they would try to fix it. Has anyone here had this issue fixed? I am now really considering not fixing it if more issues will come out of their fix. Should I still have the repair done? Thanks in advance...

Read my post directly above your post!
apaxi 05-29-2009, 02:05 AM Hey George... definitely did read your post and everyone else's (that's how I found the TSBs for my tC). Thanks for all of the great info. I am now paranoid they are going to mess things up more than they are now since the fix for the rear hatch tick is really invasive. I would like some feedback from people who have had this TSB addressed; were things better or do you have horror stories? Is the dealership responsible for fixing any issues that arise from this 'fix'? The guy really put the fear of God into me... it must have been like you said: they don't want to do it because they aren't getting paid the $$$ they would if I brought it in 1,000 miles later.
George 06-01-2009, 10:03 PM The dealership is responsible for making the vehicle as it should be without damaging anything else. That's why they have all those highly trained mechanics! If they are saying that they can't do as the factory recommends in the TSB perhaps you need to bring Toyota corporate into the situation.
apaxi 06-02-2009, 02:45 AM Thanks, George. I dropped it off tonight so hopefully they will pull through. On a side note, my service rep said I could get a cabin air filter for $40 instead of addressing that TSB for free. I didn't push my luck, but I will be making a homemade cabin filter instead. He was not happy that I knew of all the TSBs for whatever reason and said this was the only one he would address.

What, he offered you a cabin air filter if you didn't get the problem described in the TSB fixed? I'm sure that Toyota USA would like to know about that!
The TSBs are only valuable if your car is showing those symptoms. They show that a common problem exists and the way to fix it. The dealer doesn't want you to know about them because they acknowledge that a problem may exist which forces them to do warranty work for which they get paid a lower rate. They'd rather you wait until after the warranty runs out and then have to have the work done at full rates.
For example, there was a "squeaking brake" TSB on the xB1, but I didn't have it taken care of because my brakes didn't squeak all that much. Later on (after the warranty expired) I found out that I had to buy extra parts to replace my brake pads. If I had had the TSB addressed they would have had to buy the parts. Live and learn.
apaxi 06-02-2009, 11:37 PM I got my car back from the dealer. They did not address the TSB but instead put the 4 felt pads they ordered in the trim pieces of the hatch. The rattle is even worse now. I am going to give it a day or so, but I fear I will need to take it back. The dealer said they didn't address the TSB because they had only had 1 other tC have the issue and that couldn't be what my problem was. They said the Scion they repaired for the TSB has been a nightmare and has been worked on for over a year. On top of that, they blew my front tire out when test driving their 'fix' today. I wish I had a better option for service.
George 06-03-2009, 04:47 PM It sounds like they are incompetent. Toyota doesn't issue service bulletins for the fun of it. You might want to have a direct conversation with Toyota Corporate concerning this dealer's reluctance (or inability) to work to the TSB.
You might also want to post the name of the dealer so others won't make the same mistake.
Darkcrush 09-18-2010, 12:05 AM Hello!
I had my 2006 xB into my mechanic for a check engine light, VSC light and traction off light. They found that the fuel filler tube joint is allowing water into the evaporative canister which triggered the codes and lights.
I found TSB EG0 47-06 which applies to the 2006 xA with the same issue.
Anyone out there know any more about this bulletin?
