This was kind of an impulse buy, but I've been having a blast with it so far. I was looking for something to learn on, for maintenance and driving skill, and I came across this 91 FC on craigslist a few hours away. The thing sat in a parking lot for ten years, so it only had 84k on it when I bought it, but the exterior is kinda nasty.

I don't know ____ about rotaries, and this probably wasn't the best car to learn on, but I like a challenge. I haven't done much to it, mostly fixing little things (I can finally get out on the driver's side!), as I'm still flat broke and don't make very much as a high school student.

I've got huge plans for the car, but it's going to be veeery slow. The body is full of dents, all four shocks are blown (slaaaaammed!!!!), and the windows don't work, but the interior is in great shape, and it runs like new. Can't wait to tear into it. Also, anyone in the south do their own body work? I don't trust myself painting, but I'd love to pay a member to paint it for me.

I think I'll take care of suspension first, then wheels and body.

I'm glad the guys at Rx7club are so helpful. I don't have a clue what I'm doing.

interesting to see another FC build..i'll be watching.

Mine won't get much further off the ground for awhile..especially until I fix my ____ing transmission problem..ughh..

good luck

btw a good investment would also be a better radiator like a koyo and an aftermarket water temp gauge..stock rad and gauge aren't exactly the best quality and since over heating is one of the many enemies of the rotary the more steps you take to keep your temps at the desired level the better.

Wow FC build FTW! Defintely a good platform to learn on. Those things can be awesome looking and made to run damn good! Rotories are finiky though! GL. I need a project car!

The car hasn't had an overheating problems yet, but I haven't been driving it too hard. It's leaking quite a bit of oil right now, so I'll try to fix everything I can before I start upgrading shiz. Still pretty broke, so I'm just going to try to knock out as much close to free stuff as I can. Today will be dedicated to dent pulling and bondo.

Well to answer your question of the thread title: a forever work in progress(FWIP) lol. My friend had an FC(N/A) and was mint, just had a small oil leak though. It was when he had a Turbo II swap done when problems started to show. The drive shaft loop(whatever it's called to keep the driveshaft from moving up/down) would snap, had boost creep(leak in the piping somewhere). Whomever did his swap didn't do all to well and they held his car for a while. May what you do is quality work if it's done at a shop.

I'm just saying in terms of preventative maintenance. Once you start putting money in it to make it a more reliable that's where I would start. JUst giving my .02

good luck with that. I had a 88 turbo II for a while and it was a PITA. With 84k on the motor I would bet on a rebuild soon unless it has already been done. Too bad you aren't closer I have a Apexi N1 exhaust sitting in my basement for a FC. There is a ton to learn about rotaries. The first thing is they are a money pit. Rebuilds are about every 80-100k and cost about $1500 just for parts.
