I put a new Motorola Bluetooth hands free kit for my cell phone in my XB and wanted to mute the radio when the phone was in use and or when it rang. All hands free kits wired and wireless have a wire to mute a radio if supported.

My stock pioneer radio did not have this function documented, well I took the radio apart and found that the un-used pin on the smaller connector was the mute function.

I was not able to find a proper metal socket/pin to put into the connector so I took a #14 wire stripped off about 1/4 inch folded it back against itself to make a 1/8" doubled up end and forced it into the blank hole to make contact with the radio's pin then zip tied it to the wire next so it would not work it's way out. I then connected the end of this wire to the mute wire from the cell phone hands free kit and it works great.

My radio is the single CD stock pioneer that is used in the 2005 XB XA & TC.

I do not know if this works in the 6 cd version but if it has the same missing wire in the smaller connector it probably would. To test just ground that pin on the radio's connector if the radio mutes then comes back when removed you have it.

This is not documented by Toyota and I am not responsible if it kills your radio but it worked for me. I have been using it for about a month now, I use my XB for work and am on the phone on and off all day long.

The next time I have the radio out I will get a photo of the connector, but It's easy:

There is only one missing wire, One conncetor is full and the other has one wire missing. The blank hole is the one you want.

I have taken my stock radio out now and replaced it with a Pioneer DEH-P6700MP, Pioneer Sirius tuner and the Crutchfield XB face mount kit. Sounds great and I now have Sirius working.

I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but I found this wiring breakdown at the12volt.com:

Hey, douglaing. I just installed a Sony Ericsson HCB-30 Bluetooth handsfree car kit to my xB with following your instructions. It is working so well. The music will be cut when there is a incoming call. Very ncie, so nice, thanks!

No, I don't think so. In fact, people use HCB-30 because they don't want to wear the headset. Instead, using the speaker to output the voice. If you don't want the passengers to hear your phone conversation, HCB-30 is not suitable for you.

I'm looking into the Parrot CK3100. It can be found for $150 on Froogle. It seems to be a nice unit.

Thanks to this Tech article, I can do it myself now. :)

You don't need a photo, its a connector on the back of the radio, there is only 2, one is full, one has an open pin, thats it.

Thank you for your post. I am thinking about installing Moto ihf-850 or 1000 to my car also. The only problem is that it does not have themute wire on the back of t1804 stereo. I would love to try out your method but I would also want to see the picture of how you did it. I have attached the back side of the stereo. Would you please tell me which connector I should plug it into? Is it the C4? If not, please tell me which letter. Thank you in advance.

UPDATE: The C4 is the place where you have to use to mute function. I wonder what blue and yellow wires are for?? maybe for the speaker?

Anyone know which plug it is for the 2008? I found that one and grounded it and it didn't work. I wanted to put the +12 to it but I wasn't sure what it is so no need to fry it.....
