Default Inexplicable problem...

I've been having a problem the past 4 weeks with my xB... Sometimes when I hit a bump, the car will cut out. If I take my foot off the gas and clutch, and coast, then hit the gas, it will cut out. Sometimes while rolling up to stop lights, the car shuts off inexplicably. Today, while on the interstate, I was in 4th gear trying to pass someone. I hit the gas to get around them, and the motor bogged down but I didn't go any faster.

I know I need to just take it to the dealer, but I'm curious if anyone else is having odd ball problems like this. I'm honestly fairly annoyed. I've been driving my Q45 instead of the xB.

There was an issue with the early 2nd gens with the main power harness having problems. Depending on milage you may still be under warranty. It also could be a bad ground at the battery but it sounds more like the harness issue. Here's a link to the thread about it; https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...99#post3468799

Got you. I'm curious if this is what is causing my problems. I plan on taking it to the dealer Monday, hopefully.

I haven't yet. It has actually stopped since it's warmed up a bit. I honestly stopped driving it and started driving my 1997 Q45. Love the Q.

Sounds like it could be a failing solenoid or a impact detection sensor causing fuel cut. A buddy of mine had a similar problem with a Jetta. I forget which one of those wqas causing it but 'll try to call him and ask. I wouldn't rule out ignition system problems either.

first guess bad ground. second would be the impact sensor never heard of it but not alot that would do that on bumps. i would think a sensor would throw a code!

He's referring to the sensor that detects detonation in the cylinders. It signals the ECU that the AFR is excessively lean for the fuel octane. Sort of a hard boundary condition relative to the more fine adjustment O2 sensor signal.

If you meant me, I was actually referring to an impact (crash) detection sensor failure that could cause fuel cut but I was wrong. If one of those sensors failed and caused fuel cut, I imagine one or more air bags would also deploy. The knock (detonation) sensor tells the ECU to retard ignition timing and it doesn't seem suspect in this case. It seems like a bad ground, relay or intermittent electrical connection is the most likely culprit.

I still haven't confirmed this with my VW buddy but after more consideration I recall that his problem was a bad relay, IIRC it was the fuel pump or ignition relay.

No problem. My original suggestion of a failed impact (crash) sensor didn't make much sense so assuming I meant something else was logical.
