what we are sayin is good with the injen short ram, its 150 from ptuning.com and its the only intake that will make you hit 100lbs of torque at the wheels and gives the most HP gains. you wont have to be all worried when it rains either

Our engines benefit more from short ram intakes.

The K&N Typhoon intake or the Injen SR inake would be your best bet. Swapping out the filter for the Apexi power filter would be a good idea too, but that's another story altogether.

I did a search for 'best + intake + xa' and came up with 12 results, 9 of which were actually different (it listed a couple of posts twice). I keep hearing this "hydro-locked" bs. Has anyone actually hydr-locked a scion from using a CAI? I ordered mine with the AEM and now I am converting to the Typhoon and I have driven through hella rain and some deep ___ puddles and never had a problem in almost 9000 miles.

Hydro locking only occurs if your filter is low enough to dip into a huge puddle, and if that is the case, water would probably be coming in the passenger compartment, which means that you have a lot more problems than sucking water into your motor (the electricals becoming wet and fried, transmission getting water in it, etc). The AEM cai has a bypass valve that allows air to flow in the event that your primary filter is sucking up water. If you don't have this, you're at risk. But, like I said, If your car becomes submerged in enough water to reach your cai filter, you're looking at a lot of damage to the interior anyway, so just make sure you have good coverage.

I drove in some very deep water in a lowered truck a few years ago and the water started coming in the passenger compartment (it was up to my seat) and shortly after my engine died. The motor was not ruined, the computer must have shut down the engine. I couldn't start it until it dried out a few hours later. The engine was fine, the computer was fine, I got the tranny checked and it was fine, but I had a good scare. I didn't have a cai, so the water reached my stock air filter. I claimed it on my insurance and they had my interior cleaned.

i too had ( notice i said HAD) the K&N typhoon. I drove it in a heavy rain storm once. the filter became clogged with water (even with the blue waterproof sock on it ) and the motor was strugling to get air. it really bogged down the motor...now this is not hydro locking but it is a draw back...
even if i am 1 in the 1000's, it still happened with the typhoon...so i don't recomend it...

(and i did hydro-lock a car once, twisted three connecting rods and snapped the crank...not a scion but i did it...)

yeah i done that one once i was spinning the tires to get grip on a large sheet of plastic BAD mistake :lol:

luckly it was a work truck and had to help cut the truck lose too...

I've seen a couple of Wranglers that hydro-locked. Broke a connecting rod, the broken rod spun around and tore a gash thru the oil pan... Engine - DONE.

Of course both had been trying to cross a creek or a river and had pushed until water was coming up onto the hood. Can you say bye warranty, hello long block...

In a nutshell, you need to draw enough water at one time to fill the cylinder at TDC
