I just got my trd springs today, but I haven't installed it yet because of the warranty thing. Anyways, I did my research and it turns out that the warranty doesn't even cover springs and struts. That made me think that I should go ahead since I wasn't paying for any warranty--I payed for extended warranty BTW--on those parts anyway because, if any of those parts failed, I'll be spending 100% of the cost, right? but I was also thinking about other issues that might arise (I don't know if there are any besides abnormal tire wear, I'm not a mechanic) because the spring installation that I am planning to do is not approved by Scion. So here's my question for any mechanical guru's out there, should I go ahead with my project? or just let the guys at scion use their "unmatched expertise" to install it? Cause their "talent fee" is so humongous! my dealer's price is 589 minus 199 which is 390 :doh:

Dude, this question has been asked time and time again. DONT GO TO THE DEALER. Its a rip, there's really only one way to install the springs, theyre gonna do them the same way you would, but for tons of $$$. Do it yourself and be done with it. :)

if it makes you feel better, i plan to do it myself, and i have no prior knowledge how to do this stuff. just read up. ive found in the last few mods ive done, its just trial and error (hopefully less or no error). you have to be a complete idiot to totally screw up your car. and even if you do, jump back on the computer; there are always cats on here that are willing to help 24-7.

It is dangerous to try to remove the springs without a spring compressor. You can rent a spring compressor set from your local auto parts giant for free though. Well actually, they will charge you about $40 but will refund you the money upon safe return of the spring compressor set. I have changed springs and struts a few times and it is not difficult.

Then take it to your local alignment place for a four wheel alignment. This usually costs me about $65.

I've put TRD springs on and all the talk of being "dangerous" is somewhat overblown. The amount of compression needed to shorten the stock springs enough to take the tension off of the nut is not all that great. I used a set of $10 Harbor Freight spring compressors and it was absolutely no sweat. The rear stock springs were even easier than the fronts. As far as putting on the TRDs, they're already 1.5" shorter than the stock springs and can almost be installed with no spring conpressor at all! No doubt that compressing springs *can* be dangerous if you are totally clueless, and I'm sure other makes or models of cars require more effort, but to anyone thinking about doing the job yourself, don't let all the talk of danger keep you from doing it.

do it yourself, VERY easy. ive been doing suspension for years, and the tC was no sweat. the bolts on the strut assembly are a little tight from the factory, but nothing a breaker bar wont fix. just take your time, and make sure you follow it step by step. youll be fine. youll get it done in about 4 hours with a friend and some bull____ting.

My dealer lets me have free tires and batteries for life as long as I get my maintnance chieck ups and oil changes with them. If I go in with TRD springs and shocks put on via me, are they going to void my warrenty. If so on which part of warrenty?

from what i understand, and was told by the scion fleet manager in my area...is that the trd springs are not voiding any warranty since trd is a toyota company. only thing that voids it is a shotty amateur job that ends up screwing it up. also was informed that they are warrantied as long as the length of the original extended warranty (if purchased).

I did the TRD springs without a warranty... everything sits pretty and didnt mess with my alignment... best mod ive ever done

I strongly recommend getting an alignment. . . you won't feel the difference much, as the change is pretty uniform, but the toe will be off. . . I'd bet your tires. After about 5-10,000 miles, you'll notice the inside of your tires are completely bald-- toe. I was told the exact same thing about alignment not being necessary, and I was out a set of perfectly good tires. Question is: since the tC is independent all around, will you need a 4 wheel alignment? xA's and xB's can't really be adjusted in the rear, so that's not a prob, but I dunno about the tC.

Again, I recommend an alignment. . . if not 4 wheel, at least 2.

Read up on the tech guide on this website so you won't miss the fine details when reassembling your ride!!! It's not just a take off/slap on installation.

After installing mine on my own, I've noticied that the camber is off on the front and I'm getting more wear on the inside edge of my tires... I'll be taking mine in for an alignment.

A quote os one thing, the actual amount you get billed and pay is another. My salesman quoted me $375 for the springs+installation, so I ordered the springs ($~199) and had them install them (supposed to be ~$175) and the ended up trying to bill me $700+. Needless to say, I only paid the $375 I was quoted, but I wasn't happy with them trying to rip me off like that.

Yeah I get free tires for life, not RE92s but the Pirellis because I got the 18" rims.

You got to love dealerships. I work in a different industry but if I tried quoting $375 for somthing then billed them $700 I would loose all my clients. These dealerships are a joke. After reading through these threads I continue to be amazed at the @#%% they try to pull.

Just installed my TRD springs today. Took us right around 2 hours, plus or minus 15 minutes. Sure is great to be rid of teh 4x4 look.
