View Full Version : Just had a test drive. Breaking in question.
Rayman 02-07-2004, 05:57 PM I just test drove an auto xB and found it kind of slow. I was wondering if gets a little faster after break in? If it does what is the break in period you've experienced? Otherwise I thought the handling and ride were great. I ordered a manual. Hopefully it will be a little faster after I get used to a manual again.
allblackxb 02-07-2004, 06:06 PM Hey it only has 108hp. Just when you get it get an intake and exhaust and it will be all good. These cars aren't supposed to be fast.
rbloedow 02-07-2004, 06:08 PM The manual is much quicker than the auto, very peppy.\
These was a thread recently about a car magazines test numbers for the car, quarter mile and 0-60 were both in that thread - search :)
allblackxb 02-07-2004, 06:10 PM I have an auto and i think its breaks in after like 3000 miles but we have almost 20000 on it now so its fun to drive. The intake let us get a little wheel spin taking off and we got 2nd gear scratch once. The auto is god for cruzing and thats it, i floor it a lot though but i wish it was just a little faster. But then i think it only has 108hp and its scoots pretty damn good.
Rayman 02-07-2004, 06:16 PM Yeah I saw the numbers, varies from magazine to magazine it appears but not by much. Looks like I'll be ordering the intake once I get it. Think I might keep the exhaust though. I found it to be loud enough. I wouldn't want it any louder. Unless aftermarket exhaust would sound similar and have better output.
Jay82 02-07-2004, 06:19 PM I thought it drove well. But then again I drive an old 1994 Civic right now
Rayman 02-07-2004, 06:23 PM I thought it drove well also but I drove it right after I drove my 2001 Sentra with 1.8L engine and found it a little slower and thought that after break in it might feel better. Sentra is no hot rod so that's why I was asking. I found the Sentra felt a little smoother after the break in period.
CBSIMONSEZ 02-07-2004, 07:34 PM Its funny now adays, everyone and their mother wants to red light race. So here you are, rolling up in your xB, and some one in a GT starts to race his engine, race your engine back, and when it turns green and he lays rubber, just smile, knowing that you have the xB and he doesnt.
ncscion 02-07-2004, 08:30 PM some people are born redlight racers. take myself: i drive a 95 chevy s-10 and a
03 diamante. i cant help but race anything in/out of my class. you name it, if they look over at me at the light and appear to believe they can beat me i try my best to destroy. i really wish i didn't feel this way but i do. i bought my diamante thinking, its a sedan, not alot of power... yeah, its a sleeper 210hp man i kill ricers with ease. i think the xb is the answer to my illness. until i get my hands on a turbo
Rayman 02-07-2004, 10:33 PM Bought car for mostly commuting. Just want to keep up. Should be fine for that.
CBSIMONSEZ 02-07-2004, 11:04 PM Dont get me wrong, i have my 2nd gen NEON, and its tough not to race. I have the Iceman intake, and the Vibrant exhaust, very nice sounding. I have been told it sounds like a worked over v6 and even a v8 at W.O.T. Having this lil put-put box isnt gonna be the same, not even with my Accent that was a 5 speed, man that little car was quick. I dont need the tickets, and would rather drive slow so everyone can see, me and my RS1xB.
NemoBronsky 02-08-2004, 11:37 PM Hey it only has 108hp... These cars aren't supposed to be fast.
Let's all please try to remember this car is built for looks/style/personality. The transmission is geared alot more aggressively than the echo so it doesn't feel like the slowest thing on the road, but it's definately not a race car. My advice is that if you can't handle the slowness of it, remember that the car is less than $15k base, and that might leave some of us room to start looking for a used car or something with a little more balls to abuse and race with.
