Remote Start problem - Bypass module wire issue
I made the mistake of having Circuit City install my Python security/remote start several years ago. It stopped working, so I tried fixing it myself. It started working again (a few days), then stopped. I tinkered with it again, and it works at random.
The issue seems to be with the bypass wire harness. (Picture #1) But I'm not sure what to do about it. I tried wrapping the wire around the ignition cylinder and attaching it with electrical tape. (Picture #2) Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Picture #3 just shows that the remote start does work if the key is near it, but not in the ignition. So it tells me the wire ring harness is to blame. Only the Black/Red wire is attached to the ring of wire. (Burn burn burn, burning ring of wire) The Black/White wire doesn't do anything. (maybe it should?)
How/Where does this wiring ring go? How should it work? What can I do to help it work all of the time?

it definitely is your bypass harness. it sounds like you have the harness that copys the signal from your key, but does not require a cut off key to be put in the bypass signal box. i have heard that the signal copy bypass does not work well with changing temperatures, so maybe you can replace it with the bypass box that requires a cut off key
I've thought about getting one of the bypass modules that copies the key's signature, but this one definitely has 1 of my original keys in it. If the temp affects that, then I wonder if it affects this as well.
I also wonder if my set-up is common, or unusual. (old school probably)
I have a feeling it's my black/white wire (not doing anything) that is wrong. But I couldn't find anywhere anything about this wire harness and how it works/interacts with the ignition starter. Does it lay right around the outside of it? Does it need to touch something? Does it need to make a complete loop around the entire chamber? I searched the forums and I couldn't find where any of these questions were addressed. Thanks

Your setup is old school....
the new way to setup a bypass and the easiest is using bypasskit.com their XK05 Bypass kit... it hooks into your ECU Data wires to send a signal back to the transponder for your remote start to start the key. It requires no keys at all to be put in a box, just program it with your key and you are ready to go. I have used this kit in my tC and had absolutely no problems at all with it.
But anyway that wire does go around your ignition cylinder, it might be fried or something.
